VAR, Refs and Linesmen | General Discussion

The worst officiated weekend of PL football ever and Tierney looking to top it all

I think it’s a foul yet at the same time bad for the game when used in this way.

Is there a foul on the build up?

Seriously?

Yes, nothing much challenge, referee about 5 yards away. Doesn't give a foul. VAR shouldn't even review it. The ref should just say he's seen it clearly if they do, thanks. Grow a pair!

VAR isn't for this kind of minor incident. It's ridiculous.

The bar to intervention is far too low. Its meant to be for major mistakes. Not refereeing the game on video.

Also, they're going to investigate the Newcastle and West Ham incidents, but not the Liverpool VVD one. Why!

They're all mistakes and the latter wasn't even reviewed. The ref should certainly have been sent to the monitor for it, leg breaker.

I completely disagree, but dont care to argue with some randomer about it. Have a good Sunday.

Didn't review a clear stud up on Bruno, nothing to see there. Tierney is absolutely rotten.

Does this ref have a thread? What’s his name?

He’s gone full Mike Dean bald head & all today.

FFS, there's nothing in that and the ref had a good view of it first time around. Could it be a foul, maybe yes, maybe no. VAR shouldn't be involved. Just undermining the referee.

The referee should tell VAR to do one in this situation.
He pushes him over from behind and doesn’t touch the ball. How the deck is it even close to not being a foul?
If he touches the ball then fair enough but he has to touch it. It’s not even shoulder to shoulder, literally through the back of Eriksen

Dreadful VAR again. Arsenal goal has to stand and VAR has to look at that challenge on Bruno Fernandes.

The VAR in the Brighton games was as bad. What a weekend.

Paul Tierney. Was a load of stuff on social media saying he’s from Salford. He appears to have taken that onboard and decided to give every 50/50 Arsenal’s way. Staggered he didn’t give the foul on Eriksen in real time too.

It’s disappointing that it took a premier league referee three minutes or so to decide that was a foul when it was clear from every angle that it was. Arsenal player backed into Eriksen and did not win the ball. Just one look at the reply should have been enough

It could be a foul, looks like he throws himself to the ground too though. Could not be a foul.

The ref is 5 yards away, sees it clearly, doesn't give it. Ref doesn’t think it is.

That should be the end of it.

VAR wouldn't have gotten involved if the ref did his job. Foul clear as day. But the ref wanted to keep things testy.

ie: this goal by Arsenal probably has a small foul in the lead up. I’m sure there is like on every goal. It’s all subjective

There is no such thing as a small foul - pushing a player over from behind is a foul

Oh boy, two Chelsea fans in here saying a clear foul should lead to a goal.

Innit, honestly this is VAR actually working and everyone here upset for well, obvious reasons.

He doesn’t throw himself to the ground though, you can see Odegaard literally go through the back of him.
maybe the ref thinks Odegaard touches the ball and let it go, I wouldn’t blame him if he did. Fact is he didn’t.

Arsenal goal has to stand when Eriksen is pushed down from behind with Ødegaard not close to touching the ball ?

I think he looked really thoroughly to check if Ødegaard touched the ball before pushing Eriksen to the ground. If you are going to overturn your own decision, you better be 100% certain - so no problem with that

That should be an end of referee who doesn't see a foul from 5 yards away.

You do realise that Arsenal player didn't touch or even won the ball at all? He literally went to push Eriksen off the ball, that was his only intention.

He has been giving those nothing fouls on Jesus all day and then decided not to give the foul on Eriksen in real time.

Eriksen really is small and not so strong player but that was a clear foul on him and next pass after that foul is for Martinelli who scores.

Not to mention the leg contact, he challenged him, and got no where near the ball, therefore a foul.

The ref is there on the "foul". He lets play go on and the ref had a perfect view. Those are called fouls and also not called fouls. It was not an obvious mistake. Goal should stand.

It is obvious since the ref saw it again and changed his mind.
It’s funny when fans say this, the ref changing his mind confirms he thought it was an obvious mistake

:lol::lol:

Its the most obvious foul you’re going to see! The fact the ref didn’t give it in the first place despite being about 5 yards away is the only shocking thing about it. He literally knees his leg while getting absolutely nowhere near the ball. How anyone can try and argue that isn’t a foul is beyond me.

That's called a foul pretty much every time the ref actually sees what happens. It's a foul. Odegaard pushed him with his arms in the back, and kicked his leg from behind, and didn't get a touch on the ball. What world is the "not a foul". It's a standard foul that is always called without controversy.

Thing is, if the player had got a nick on the ball as well as taking out Eriksen id probably say they were hard done by and I’d be angry if that was given against us. No bias, i’d say they were really unlucky. But he didn’t get anywhere near it and it’s a clear foul.

There should be no controversy here at all:lol:
