The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

He's clearly been watching Designated Survivor and taken it seriously.

What I don't understand the very fire the Trump was trying to douse by sacking the FBI boss investigating his campaign and associates may have added fuel to the fire he trying to contain?

Very odd.

This is like when the Kenyan government hired an anti-corruption investigator back in the early 2000s. He promptly found a shit-ton of government corruption so they fired him and forced him into exile.

The strange timing makes it more worrying. Read somewhere that his team must have made a calculation that facing the current uproar was better than facing an investigation under Comey.

Reminds me of the NY governor Cuomo shutting down the corruption commission a few years ago, because it was getting too close to comfort for the governor.

Pathetic reaction from the crowd who are just thinking about the Comey letter and not the bigger picture which is the blatant attempt of a cover up by Trump.

Astonishing that the administration genuinely thought it could remove the head of the FBI and replace him with a loyalist who'd close own the investigation and everyone would be fine with that.

It's comical really. But it isn't out of line at all with how they clearly thought the Presidency works, that the President can 'President' everything. Just look at them trying to run the country exclusively through executive orders in the first few weeks of Trump taking office. It's an absolute car crash.

Wait, can he actually get away with firing the chief of the FBI when he's at the centre of an investigation?

If so, how broken a system is that?!

I don't care about republican senators reactions. I also remember the posturing with the Rex Tillerson nomination and we all know what happened. I just don't trust the republican party. One call from Trump and they will all fall in line. I bet the new FBI director nomination will appease them. That or another Mega bomb/Tomahawk somewhere in Syria/Iraq. This will be forgotten in a month.

The system isn't actually broken, both houses exist to hold the president to account.

What is broken is that the people in those houses who can do something refuse to. Primarily because Americans have elected what seems to essentially be a criminal organization into a majority in both along with the presidency. The founding fathers could never plan for that.

What you are witnessing is how a coup happens within a democratic system.

Yeah, that struck me as well. What i don't understand though is how incredibly thick they must be to not think this would blow up massively.

The thing is though, Comey will apparently still testify, but before the Senate Intelligence Committee tomorrow, but the difference (i think) is that it now will be a closed session instead of an open one.

Well Trump isn't boring, got to give him that at least.

I don't get how the WH is going to be able to explain this, perhaps most of all the timing of it?
If he was fired because of how he handled the email scandal then surely it would have happened months ago. If they wanted to stop him from investigating them then they should also have fired him months ago and replaced him with a friendly.

Can anyone come up with a reasonable argument that could explain why they got rid of him now if there's no fire behind the Russia smoke?

Went to bed before any of this broke and had a proper "WTF" moment when I heard it on the radio this morning. Just caught up on the thread, what about absolute clusterfeck this administration is.

I envy you.

I have an exam this afternoon and I couldn't put my phone down last night :(

Unless Gowdy wants to prime himself for a 2020 run perhaps? Make himself out to be the savior of the nation?

Not that would be something. I keep saying it's only a matter of time until his allies turn on him. To be honest, I thought Cruz would position himself against Trump after the way he treated him in the primaries and use that as his platform for 2020, but he dropped his pants quicker than a $2 hooker at the first sniff if a top job. I do think the tide is turning though, surely these clowns are starting to realise that aligning with Trump is potential career suicide?

The administration already pushing the "it's time to move on from Russia" narrative. It sounds incompetence on a made-up scale but this is the same administration that spent its first week arguing over inauguration crowd size pictures.

You know you have a serious porn problem when that is the case. The fact it's now extended to news porn is not good. Nothing really happened from the moment Comey was fired up to now. He's still fired, Trump is is still president.

There isn't one but they'll send Spicer out there and he'll just repeat that he's been fired for the email scandal even when constantly questioned about the timing and he'll deny everything to do with Russia.

They'll keep bluffing their way through this.

I just wonder if anyone else in the FBI will take up the reigns or will they all stop now that the President has shown he'll just fire them if they get too close?

Rumour has it he will nominate Rudy Guliani. Who is dement at this time, the FBI can likely just continue the investigaton without him noticing.

Still amazed how he, mayor of New York in 2001, told Trump rally crowds there were no islamic terror attack in the US before 2010 :wenger:

It's worse than a porn problem though, if it was porn I could have knocked one out and slept like a baby. I think I'd struggle with that on this.

Why is this so shocking? I thought everyone was already calling for his sacking previously?

Its not like Comey will have conducted the investigation himself is it?

Because subpoenas on the Trump campaign were issued just hours before Trump suddenly decided to fire him for exactly the reasons he kept him in January. Yes, he should have been fired in January. For a lot of reasons. But now? Replacing him with the dumb sack of shit Rudy Guiliani, who would probably literally lick the shit out of Trumps arse if asked too?
