Why would it trigger a response from the US when the incident happened in the UK and to a British intelligence asset. Actual Russian acts in the US hasn't garnered a response aside from the inevitable toilet tweets from the President.

What's with Tillerson going seemingly off script with this? I thought he was supposed to be Putin's pick for secretary of state over Romney if recent reporting is to be believed. Unless that reporting has spooked him and he's trying to publicly put some distance between himself and Putin.

Even if you were to give them the benefit of the doubt (despite everything), surely they are aware that the optics of firing him so soon after he condemns Russia will just fuel the fire of suspicion. Unless Tillerson had already been told and his comments about Russia were a parting gift.
