I'm looking at him and the Republican party, both have taken it to new depths....

As for giving him a chance, I did. It didn't take very long for him to confirm my suspicions... For some it seems like he can do no wrong tho...

The list didn't look at both him and the party. Looks like an attempt to discredit him alone. Maybe they should understand that Donald is one part of something much bigger.

It's one list, I'm sure there's one like it just for the Republican take...

Fwiw I think he is the shite that blocked the toilet, the massive one that caused it all to get backed up. Now you got a toilet bowl full of shite and it's embarrassing smells are wafting through your house. Time for you to do something about it...

Since this is now the general knowledge thread :D
I'd come across in an unrelated article something about internationalism/solidarity in East Germany, and so I googled it, this came up:
http://www.berghahnbooks.com/title/SlobodianComrades

Any truth to it? (Of course the irony is that the East is now the most hostile region)

More generally:
Cuba before the 90s is a great example: this is what Mandela said
We have long wanted to visit your country and express the many feelings that we have about the Cuban revolution, about the role of Cuba in Africa, southern Africa, and the world. The Cuban people hold a special place in the hearts of the people of Africa. The Cuban internationalists have made a contribution to African independence, freedom, and justice, unparalleled for its principled and selfless character.
They continue to provide doctors en masse as an important export; it's pretty much out of necessity now I think.

For an example of how twisted Soviet foreign policy could get, consider that the anarchist takeover of Barca was opposed most fiercely by the Soviet-backed Communists, partly in order to become a respectable ally of the western forces, and I assume because it would have sent the wrong kind of message to their ow crushed population (this was right between the major famine and Stalinist purges in the USSR)

It' too easy for us to complain and moan about refugees and migrants whilst we are all well fed and living to very decent standards.
Yes, this leads to being asked questions by Trump supporters like "why can't the Syrian refugees just stay in their own country?"

People are being drama queens. There's little to suggest WWIII is anywhere near close. If anything, he's cultivating better relations with Russia and staving it off.

No, just threatening Iran for no reason, constantly winding China up, and pissing Mexico off too. And his Russian stance is complete BS as he's contradicted himself last week by saying he would only deal with Russia if they gave Crimea back and to stop the violence and trouble in Ukraine. That doesn't sound like it's going to go down well with Putin, let alone be possible.

Also, all that aside, then there is the trouble his so called travel ban caused and will cause when he reissues it later this week, and also his danger to the environment. He's already disgustingly destroyed a bill Obama passed that prevented mining companies from letting waste products run off in to streams and rivers. He and Pence then both said they were saving the mining business. It's a fecking dying trade anyway for fecks sake, and that bill took Obama years to pass and was ripped up inside a month of Trump and it's absolutely abhorrent. It's indefensible to many, but it's ok. Give him a chance and wait until he does something before complaining.

America needs to be hard on both Iran and China, both of which gives them plenty of cause for concern in their own ways e.g. Iran's desire to increase its influence in the Middle East, China's ambitions for the entire South China Sea. Russia's notoriously difficult to deal with, more so since Obama didn't really do anything to resolve the Crimea situation. Any incoming president would have a nightmare with that issue. I'm not surprised he's yet to make any headway. Posturing with the usual suspects doesn't necessarily mean we should be heading for the bunkers just yet.

The travel ban chaos was unfortunate. Whether or not the more liberal-minded Americans want to admit it, a good percentage of Americans are concerned about the immigration situation. With that being the case, Trump was under serious pressure from to get moving on immigration, especially since the wall is currently a debate more than anything else. The lack of care in drafting the EO was certainly cause for concern, but mistakes happen and serve to better prepare them for the future.

As for the coal mining rule, that one acts more as a stay of execution for the industry than anything. Besides, OSMRE (Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement) stated that the rule wouldn't have affected many operations if it had been kept in place since many are so far underground that they don't have an impact on the streams above. I think most of us don't know enough on this issue to comment at any length. I know many will have just read into the headlines and become instantly alarmed.

I personally don't agree at all, I think Trumps manner and attitude is extremely disrespectful and provocative. I think he will only upset both, and everyone else he treats with similar disdain. He's also not clever enough or respected enough to get away with treating other countries the way he does. Just look at the debate in the House of Parliament here in England today, he was slated almost as badly as he gets in here for nearly 4 hours by MP's of all parties. Face it, he and the way he acts gains no respect for himself and now for the country he represents. He's an embarrassment and other countries will treat him as one.

The travel ban chaos was unfortunate

Really? You can say that with a straight face can you? Anyone could see the trouble it would cause and it wasn't unfortunate, it was uncalled for and completely needless and racist. Like his attitude to foreign countries, it was exceptionally provocative too. The USA is one of the hardest countries to enter anyway, especially for those coming from the countries he banned people from. Also, all the recent attacks on the USA have been carried out by home grown citizens. Let's not forget that 9/11 was predominately carried out by people from Saudi Arabia, yet they weren't on the list. I wonder why?

So why cause more provocation and upset more people and put the environment at risk? One of the posters here on the caf knows someone who can comment on it enough and he was disgusted by it. It was a pathetic attempt to appease his supporters that he promised he would keep mining jobs and bring more new ones, something anyone with any intelligence knows is almost impossible because it's a dying industry. Like he keeps on banging on about coal not understanding it's not being used or mined for reasons, like it not being economical anymore or that natural gas and the abundance of it is far more economical. You would like to think he knows this and couldn't be that stupid, but then you realise he is that stupid and just full of shit.

Probably because the ones who are somewhat sensible won't appreciate being belittled by ten people at once.

The fact is that Sweden does have a massive problem with immigration. They let too many people in, if we want to be blunt about it, and now their infrastructure is struggling to cope. It's the first time in modern history that far right discourse has attained a level of popular consumption in Swedish politics. This is as a direct result of immigration policies.

The question I'd ask @SwansonsTache is how is this riot in Sweden directly linked to immigration? Because there is a difference between social dissonance as a result of immigration and outright violence being attributed to immigrants.

Large scale immigration will always bring tangible social problems as well as
But, it has brought forward the opportunity for Muslims in the US to show our better side - a side cnuts be it in the real world or virtual world refuse to acknowledge.

Fund at $22,000+ now https://www.launchgood.com/project/muslims_unite_to_repair_jewish_cemetery#/

Didn't the synagogue local to that Mosque that got torched let the Muslims worship there as well?

That's the paradox.

Worth noting too that 'rampant capitalism' is probably a large part of what draws migrants to certain places in the first place.

We had a golden period between the end of world war 2 and the 80s with capitalism matched by strong welfare state. The latter is being eroded, with people's lives becoming insecure so they are being taught to hate migrants by the people who are destroying the state

Okay, so how many consecutive mistakes must be made before you change your mind on him? If he doesn't learn from this and his next travel ban EO is a shit show too, then what? Give him another chance?

Running simultaneously alongside that he is deliberately spewing inaccurate information whenever he gets to a microphone. Maybe only small things, alternative facts here and there, but do they add up? Do you treat every little lie individually and write it off or do you say, hang on, it's the 3rd time this week? Are these feck ups allowed to run alongside the bigger feck ups and at what point do you say enough is enough?

I'm not easily offended I just had enough several mistakes and lies back.

A good percentage of Americans are concerned about the immigrant situation... which percentage is that, the indigenous population?!?! The feckin irony is unbelievable.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Seeing as it's a bit late here, I'll get back to you tomorrow.

Despite the differences, try to keep the faith and Make America Great Again in the meantime!

I believe there were 117 road deaths in Sweden in 2015, but zero fatalities from terrorism in Sweden in 2015. So I reckon Trump should ban the import of Volvo's to the US!!!

Btw, I think Sweden has the lowest road traffic accidents per head in the World. Real facts.

They also ran a Eugenics program until the late 70's. It's a weird place. A very weird place.

With that said, it's also great. Super loose, casual, full of pretty people with their women speaking in a manner that sounds like birdsong.

Make America great again. Again. To which period are you referring, the 1950's?

It USED to be great, apparently.

If you like that, read the origin of the phrase from Mein Kempf...
But it remained for the Jews, with their unqualified capacity for falsehood, and their fighting comrades, the Marxists, to impute responsibility for the downfall precisely to the man who alone had shown a superhuman will and energy in his effort to prevent the catastrophe which he had foreseen and to save the nation from that hour of complete overthrow and shame. By placing responsibility for the loss of the world war on the shoulders of Ludendorff they took away the weapon of moral right from the only adversary dangerous enough to be likely to succeed in bringing the betrayers of the Fatherland to Justice.

All this was inspired by the principle—which is quite true within itself—that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods.

It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation.
For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying.
