The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

Representative Steve King, of Iowa, has had a model produced of his ideal border wall. Not sure from this picture whether he's still got the confederate flag on his desk.

Did King really need to use a model? Surely people can just imagine the wall from a brief description of it? Good bloody grief.

Guaranteed he has an action man in his desk for private playtime. Reasonably certain he's given it a sombrero.

Maybe he thinks that military men are stupid...which is ironic.

That's a shit model and the Blue Peter presenters wouldn't be impressed at all. There's no graffiti on it, Banksy hasn't done a mural on it, and the razor wire on the top is all squiffy and falling off in places. Piss poor effort 2/10

I just think there's a whole bunch of things going on behind the scenes that we as the average public aren't told about and this is as close as we've been to it being transparent.

No matter what Trump did or said during the election, it had no bearing on him getting elected. No matter what he's said or done in the past, or the incredible amount of evidence of both his thin-skinned nature and his inability to run businesses or doing anything right, it had no bearing on him getting elected.

Why the Democrats contrived to make Hillary win has to go down to her backers and the internal leadership because i'm pretty sure Sanders would've won easily otherwise.

I think this has all been controlled by far higher people that we know and it's all been an illusion.

It wouldn't surprise me if the IC have dirt on him but also wouldn't surprise me if it just bounced off him like nothing.

Not usually one for the 'no smoke without fire' proverb, but it's impossible to not notice the plume of smoke is getting thicker by the day. Putting my conspiratorial hat on I'd say that the powers that be know they have enough to destroy Trump but it's a matter of timing. Being too blatant with it might seem like an attempt by the security and intelligence services to undermine democracy and reverse a democratic result. Too much interference might be met with hostility from much of the country. I think it's going to be a drip of information. Coming from different sources, each more damning than the last. So in the end the charge can't be made that the CIA brought down Trump for being too 'maverick', but rather that a culmination of different factors of variable origin lead to his downfall.

China's navy is currently larger than that of the US, I think, though obviously technologically inferior. But to counter American aircraft carriers they have hundreds of submarines.
The US Navy could take on all the other navies of the world combined. It's pointless to compare.

Do I get this correctly that what's lifting your spirits is that the Senate Intelligence committee, which at first refused to investigate potential connections between Trump or his folks, respectively, and Russia, changed position and will now investigate, or is there anything more that I've missed?

Has to be something big going on behind the scenes with Comey refusing to say even in a "closed door session" whether they are investigating Trump and his team.

Otherwise surely Obama would have forced Comey out with the way he behaved before the election and in recent weeks.

With the FBI it seems political. Comey knows that the Dems can't really go after him too hard because if they get their wish and he goes he'll be replaced by a Trump appointee.

Didn't Flynn justify these calls as just arranging dates for official phone calls between Trump and Putin (?), that they exchanged when Trump and Putin respectively were going to be on holiday and not available?

That makes an awful lot of sense. This has to be handled delicately and sensibly, the hostility and feeling throughout the country simply cannot be ignored. One cannot underestimate how the public would react if they felt democracy was being undermined. This whole situation is a complete mess , from the participation of intelligence agencies and them and the media being branded completely untrustworthy by half the public AND the President Elect, then the apparent interference from Russia and outside sources such as WikiLeaks. Going hard at this like the proverbial bull in a China shop really wouldn't be the best scenario, it definitely has to be handled delicately. The volatility of a certain percentage of the public and their stubborn indifference to anything from media or government sources means it's very difficult to convince them that anything is true, everything is a lie or conspiracy to them at the moment. Quite how you handle that without violent reaction is definitely something that must be being considered.

Several calls on the same day to just talk about arranging phone calls between Trump and Putin? I find that improbable.

Not to mention this was the same day Obama chucked 35 Russian diplomats out of the country.

Right and that's what makes me somewhat hopeful about this new intelligence committee investigation. If elected officials are the ones uncovering the damning evidence it helps to nullify the heat you identified.

"Law makers on the bill have uncovered shocking links between the Trump campaign and the Russian government..."

Sounds better than.

"The CIA have decided to release information, which could lead to the impeachment of the President."

Incidentally I heard earlier that now the investigation has been announced it's a criminal offence to destroy evidence, records etc. Given that it was somewhat of a surprise (I think only very recently the head of the committee dismissed any suggestions there'd be an investigation) I wonder how prepared team Trump were with the paper shredder and the delete button.

Is that picture taken before or after he pissed on him? With the hat it's hard to tell.

I'm not saying I'm buying Flynn's justification but to me this isn't enough yet to get my hopes up high. Don't get me wrong, I believe Trump is a Putin puppet for many months, and I couldn't be happier if the orange moron gets publicly humiliated and destroyed. Nevertheless, I'll wait to be optimistic that this will happen until there's more evidence than some phone calls on the day when some Russian diplomats were told to leave the country.

President-elect Donald Trump expressed a willingness Friday to lift sanctions on Russia if it assists the U.S. in other efforts such as counterterrorism.

Trump told the Wall Street Journal that he intended to keep sanctions imposed on Russia by the Obama administration in response to cyber attacks during the election “at least for a period of time.” But the president-elect implied sanctions would not be warranted if Russia helped the U.S. in other ways.

“If you get along and if Russia is really helping us, why would anybody have sanctions if somebody’s doing some really great things?” Trump said.

The president-elect spoke of meeting with Russia and its leader Vladimir Putin after he is sworn in.

“I understand that they would like to meet, and that’s absolutely fine with me,” he said.

There's going to be a mass suiside on this thread next Friday.

I gleefully await the day Trump and his team get their comeuppance.

We're all pretty relaxed in here now. He's being investigated by every Tom, Dick and Harry. He's a marked man and his dirty laundry is going to be hung out in public soon enough and then it's off to prison.

What's more, the spotlight is so bright on him with Putins hand up his arse, he won't be able to do anything without both the GOP and DNC members of the senate intervening.
