'White man receives his freedom from black man'.

I was doing some reading on the two-man rule , but discovered that I have been wrong about that. This is truly a sobering read (Wiki, I know. But it was described the same way in a couple of other news sites) :

The United States has a two-man rule in place at the nuclear launch facilities, and while only the president can order the release of nuclear weapons, the order must be verified to be an authentic order given by the president by the Secretary of Defense (there is a hierarchy of succession in the event that the president is killed in an attack). This verification process deals solely with verifying that the order came from the actual President. The Secretary of Defense has no veto power and must comply with the president's order.

Journalist Ron Rosenbaum has pointed out that the operational plan for nuclear strike orders is entirely concerned with the identity of the commanding officer and the authenticity of the order, and there are no safeguards to verify that the person issuing the order is actually sane.[10] Notably, Major Harold Hering was discharged from the Air Force for asking the question "How can I know that an order I receive to launch my missiles came from a sane president?"[11]

Feck.

This is probably a good thing as they can disobey Trump's order out of concern he isn't of sound mind.
Much more difficult that if vetoing was an option. Basically in the current situation, they simply confirm that order came from the command authority.

Mental the parts about them finding it unsecured after the assassination attempt on Reagan and on him allegedly carrying it around in his sock.

Doesn't that say the exact opposite? Once they verify the order they have to approve it.

Its just a legal protocol. They don't have to do anything at all. At a minimum, Trump's erratic behavior will call into question the validity of the process itself and hopefully lead to either a review or pressure on Trump to get a Psych eval.

I'm sure he'll go for one around the same time he releases his tax returns.

Yes. The only hope is that the system is not automated. Meaning that an actual person has to relay this order. So, in theory, a general sitting in STRATCOM may mutiny and refuse to carry out the order, giving enough time for the VP + Cabinet/Congress to declare him unfit for duty. Or so one would hope.

after Nixon presented Soviet Leader Leonid Brezhnev with a Lincoln Continental at Camp David, Brezhnev unexpectedly drove with Nixon off the retreat onto a highway while leaving Nixon's Secret Service personnel behind, separating Nixon from the football (and his security detail) for nearly 30 minutes
 I imagine a group of people on both sides have collectively shat their pants on that one.

Exactly, I'd say that's the "failsafe". There's nothing in writing about it, just relying on the people involved (to basically mutiny and go against everything previously designed and trained, heh).

Right, but I hope they are not waiting for an incident to occur before redesigning the system. I understand it is done that way in order to keep response time to minimum. However, it is perfectly natural to demand an order approval, but only when the strike is offensive in nature. Meaning that it is not a retaliation to an already occurring attack on the US.

I had a crazy, really really mad thought today that as his last act Obama might launch a nuke somewhere to show it's too easy for one man to do in order to get the procedure reviewed

Treason ? I wouldn't think so.

Presumably any sort of investigation isn't going to be complete by the time he steps into office. Trump and his cronies will likely do all they can in order to defund or compromise any investigations against them: waging verbal war against such institutions, and calling the news organisations who report on them fake news.

It's not as if this is new - we've known fairly conclusively since about December that Russia influenced the election in Trump's favour, and from that it was obvious he was colluding with them in some way: from his blatant refusal to condemn Putin, to the fact he's actually on camera from years ago saying he has a relationship with Putin, to his appointment of Tillerson who has clear interests in Russia, and from the very fact that Trump himself likely has foreign interests in the country as well. Add into this the DNC hacks and it became obvious that Russia likely has some compromising info on Trump and perhaps more of the people around him as well.

I'm just struggling to believe anyone will care. This isn't new - the man has been running rampant for a while now and he isn't going to tone it down. The Republicans have shown us their naked ambition; they'll impeach him when it becomes beneficial but until then they'll likely continue trying to use him for their power, and even if he is impeached he won't end up in jail. I've lost faith in anyone having the balls to take it that far.

They don't really have the ability to do that. Comey will still be in office and is relatively even keeled (despite the Hillary flap) and Pompeo and Dan Coats don't strike me as Trump loyalists. You can also bet that that the FBI and CIA will be leaking like Russian golden shower if there's information incriminating Trump.

what do you think?

what do you think?

Just a complete guess but I think there are three things that may be revealed in the coming months.

1. The Trump campaign actively colluded with the Russian government to coordinate efforts for Trump to win the election - by way of Wikileaks, as well as possibly by other material means using intermediaries to cloak the relationships (Manafort, Page, et al)

2. Trump has some sort of compromising information related to Russia that if revealed would instantly bring him down as well as possibly get him prosecuted.

3. The Trump campaign using Rudy Giuliani as an intermediary, put backchannel pressure on Comey to release his letter 10 days before the election.

Any one of the above would easily be enough to impeach Trump and even possibly get him prosecuted.

Remember that feeling when you woke up to news that Moyes had been sacked? That's how good it's going to be when the news finally shows a yuge team of CIA and FBI agents meet Trump off a plane and rough hand him and several members of his entourage into their 4x4's and speed off for some Guantanamo style questioning (that he recently made legal).

I imagine the end will seem near next March when he starts saying about how the USA has to aspire to the level of a country like Moldova.

And starts showing McCain videos of Hannity...

I also agree that there is no smoke without fire. All those scenario's would not not surprise me in the slightest. The hypocrisy would be so ironic.

Its virtually killing me watching the class and dignity with which the Obama administration is leaving office in stark contrast of Trump's clan stomping and screaming obscenities and madness like trailer park gypsies. It must be so traumatic for democrat patriots.
