I don't think anyone has ever doubted that Americans have generally high standards of living. It's just that it resembles a third world country in many other ways. Like equality, labour laws, consumer protection, the political system, health care and education. A few of those are amazing if you're wealthy, but then that's where the inequality thing comes in.
Certainly I'd live in Denmark, Sweden or Finland far before I'd live in the US, if I had to move. Most of Europe as well, probably.
