When that happens the GOP will, without blinking, blame the incumbent Dems and demand cuts to social welfare.

It’s the Republicans MO. And all with a straight face.
That’s why it’s hard to understand poor people voting for them.
Feckin eejits.

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump

I too can count to patotao!!

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump

I bet that Carly Simon song was about me!

It's hardly a surprise. The right always spends, the left always makes the cuts when it goes tits up. Happens in just about every democracy everywhere. There are loads of good reads out there about why it therefore makes them a good combo (basically right tend to be money happy and left tend to be stingy, so without both it'd be highly unbalanced).

Obviously Trump is .. eh.. a slight extreme, to say the least. He's proper bankrupting them.

All part of Putin's master plan

Yes, but his tower is now the tallest in Puerto Rico.

That is incredible. I know a country's finances don't work like a bank account, but if you are spending ~$1tn more than you are earning every year, that doesn't strike me as particularly sustainable especially when this is the situation when things are generally ok with the economy.
I remember the quote that was used a few years ago in the UK was something like "They didn't repair the roof when the sun was shining"

Just googled that and it was originally said by JFK. Didn't know that! Every day is a school day :)
It's going to balloon when the downturn hits. Don't know where Trump got his economics degree.

The deficit is a result of a massive wealth giveaways to the wealthiest Americans, it's easy to fix through the lower classes rising up and killing the feckers. It's an artifice of corporate rule, not a natural result of government spending.
Sadly (for you) Bolshevism died a while ago.

America also needs serious infrastructure spending. We are talking about trillions and I believe it was one of his campaign pledges.
Where does he say the money will come from?

Mexico will pay for some of it. Plus they'll start printing money. No worries.

The Tsar had similar feelings after the French revolution and Middle Eastern dictators similar feelings after the fall of the Soviet Union. People rise over and over again, and it's only a matter of time until the current elites have their guts ripped from their bodies.

Many Americans will need to get much poorer and way more brutalized before there is a revolution here.

Except they had reason to rise back then. Overthrowing a monarchy is not the same as overthrowing a democratically elected government.

Also, in the months since Trump started introducing tariffs, the trade deficit has increased.

America's already had one civil war post-democracy so idk what this has to do with anything. There are plenty of reasons for the people to burn the US government to the ground today.
It has to do with the fact that the majority are not represented in a monarchy. Therefore its understandable why they rise and overthrow the ruling class. Don't know why you brought the American Civil War into this, it is not a case of the "masses" rising against the government.

You invoked democracy as if it's a cure all pill for American insurrections when it evidently isn't.

The mayor of the Puerto Rican capital San Juan, Carmen Yulin Cruz, a vocal critic of Mr Trump who earlier described his response to Maria as a "stain on his presidency", said his latest comment "added "insult to injury".

Senator Bernie Sanders tweeted: "Nearly 3,000 people died. That is not a 'success'. That is a tragedy and a disgrace."

Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer said: "This is an offensive, hurtful and blatantly false comment from the president."

Nice to see a little fight back, it's just a shame it's from the usual suspects. Trumps comments are disgusting and he needs to be called out on them by everyone, especially people in his own party.

this is what people always think, it can't happen here, until it does

see; the topic of this thread

The odds of it happening in the US are next to zero. There are too many people here who are not only content, but who overtly and proactively like the system as it is. Imbalances are easily adjudicated by greater participation in the political process.

I’ve read the first chapter of the Woodward book and it says that Trump met Bannon in 2010 to discuss a presential run in which Bannon said no chance.

yes

that number gets smaller and smaller by the year

I don't know if it does or if more people are simply waking up and taking ownership of their country by way of civic participation. Half the country doesn't vote, so it stands to reason that once more of the non-voters get involved, important policies will begin to move at a macro level.

The only way there will be a revolt is if trump is impeched and the crazy gun nuts go on aa rampag to have him re-enstated

Absolutely - the fact that he is not called on them is inexcusable.
