Assad doesn't care about the pull out to the extent he feels he has top cover by way of Putin to do anything he wants.
What's he actually hoping to achieve though? Displacement of Assad is a noble and justifiable goal but the country isn't exactly going to start functioning suddenly if we put in someone else and hope things go all rosy. Strikes me as another Iraq situation insofar as intervention isn't really going to improve things but will just cost a lot of lives.
I don't think he'll do anything other than something quick that he thinks projects strength, as last time.
If he does something it would likely be air strikes or cruise missile strikes on key infrastructure that would at a minimum, impose costs on Assad repeatedly doing this with impunity.
Last time he dropped a bomb on a runway and it was repaired and operational inside a day or two.
I doubt he will do anything significant.
Bombing a runway was more of an impetuous gesture to say he has arrived and won't hesitate to take action. I'd imagine the next one will be far more substantial in terms of taking out actual bases and other regime infrastructure.
So Trump is judge and jury before we can confirm who carried out the attack?
He likely knows who did it since he has access to satellite imagery, voice intercepts, and previous data from Assad's many previous attacks. That is of course assuming he bothers to read his daily intelligence briefings.
I just don't buy this timing. Not one for conspiracy theories but this stinks
If he doesn't care about the consequences then he likely doesn't care about the timing. If he feels Putin will protect him no matter what they he will act accordingly.
As I said in another thread, I feel like people are focusing on Assad here as if he's a rational political actor going for sane, sensible choices. He's demonstrated before that's not the case. Whether it's him or not can be debated, but I don't think there's any difficulty in seeing why it might be him.
I see the GOP are revolting against duties. It's normal for them, as they are one of the most pro-market party in the world. Gonna be interesting.

Tbh I don’t necessarily disagree with Trump’s tweet re Syria (the current ones).
It's just that he seems to have completely changed the tune on foreign policy.
I don’t really find politicians doing a complete 180 that surprising tbh. Especially since trump has no political background, he is essentially tweeting as a layman in his past tweets. It’s quite likely he understood real complexities involved only once he was elected

I honestly still don't think he does now. His advisors and staff have to constantly reign him in and explain things to him. Take his asking what is the point of having nukes if they can't be used or also the other day him asking why they waited for a targets family to leave before firing their missiles.

He's got 50m followers but his tweets generally don't get more than 50-75k likes. Someone with that many followers should be getting more in the range of 500k likes. I'd imagine most of his followers are fake and or people who hate him.

He's getting slammed in the press again today for various reasons. Also strong rumours (apparently from the White House) circulating that Trump asked Israel to bomb Syria last night because he didn't want to do it himself and upset Putin and so he doesn't look like he's flip flopping again after saying he wanted to pull the troops out. Also many saying that Trump saying he will pull the troops out has emboldened Assad and put the region in more danger.
It's certainly feasible and I guess we will know in the next few days or so if he fails to act in response. Some suggesting he will Tweet saying Israel have responded so he doesn't need to.

He's actually getting more likes than usual if you compare him to accounts with a similar follower count (eg. Ellen or Kim Kardashian). I suspect there are lots of bots liking his posts and inflating the numbers.

Fair point, but he did say last week he wanted a full withdrawal from Syria so he has made a bit of a problem for himself. After all, he can never admit to being wrong.
It's just a shame his dad didn't withdraw from his mum sooner.

I don't count celebrities since those accounts are generally saturated with hormonal teenangers - a demographic that spends more of its time on Twitter than older folk.
Their demographic spend more time on Twitter, yet they get less likes than Trump? There is no one in his follower count range that regularly gets 500k plus likes per tweet. That's way too high an expectation.
A better of way of looking at it is that his likes seem to be decreasing during a period when his followers have been steadily increasing.

Just to give an example in german rap there is a group (187 Strassenbande) that has more interactions than other rappers with twice the likes. I suspect because a.) they target their audience in a different manner and b.) they have generally a more interacting audience.
No worries. I must admit I do have a deep hatred of the man. I only vent about him here though, I can't remember the last time I mentioned him in an actual conversation with someone.
