Major difference being the Obama campaign told users what they were doing and asked permission to access their data, whereas Cambridge Analytica hid what they were doing behind some fake quiz.
Data mining is nothing new. If they're using the data for analysis to better run a campaign and know which voter demographic to target for specific ads and opening campaign offices then that's okay by me. Cambridge Analytica used that data to help Trump and the Russians spread propaganda, lies and fake stories.
I hope they come down like a ton of bricks on CA.

Oh yea all that too, but the Mail article (and @Paz) is trying to paint it as the same thing just based on both parties getting info from Facebook.
Why bother? It's not like its going to make any difference to anything.
I’ve soft deleted my Facebook for the past year as I haven’t really been an active user who posts content since about 2014. I do occasionally use it to stay in touch with old work colleagues or even older school friends, so the easiest way for me is to keep my account soft deleted then briefly turn it on if I need to get in touch with someone, the immediately soft delete it again.
Good luck trying to delete your account, I tried before and is always there the only difference I think, nobody can access your page anymore but I'm not sure.
I've personally avoided facebook and twitter for quite some time now. Google more or less knows everything about me though.
I can't sit in front of the tv with him on without getting Grade A Tourettes. I've taken to only reading reports on him and transcripts of what he says and I still find myself shouting "feck OFF" at the ceiling. I can't stomach watching the man or hearing his voice.
No that's just deactivating your account. You can delete it using the delete account function.
Does it matter for common folks like us? So they know what I'm browsing for, wouldn't be such a big deal compared to not having google of Facebook account.
I haven't been on facebook for 5-6 years and all I have missed (as far as I can tell) is opportunities for making up excuses for not showing up at high school reunions. People say they use it to stay in contact, but there's literally dozens of ways to contact another in the modern world, and I actually prefer not being contacted by people who only do it when it's excessively easy.
I still haven't found a way around google though

Deleted my Facebook account over 9 years ago, have not missed it at all.
I did it when I did my research and realized that Zuckerberg isn't as progressive as I thought he was. 2015 my account was deleted.
Really? Having just emigrated, is great to (atleast seem to feel) in touch with folks. Need to think of alternates (well mainly with acquaintances etc).

Tbf time zones and the amount of people make calling more than a little difficult.
WhatsApp is perfect. We have a group set up with our friends in the US and talk to them almost daily.
We have a whatsapp group of Caf Users and we chat almost daily
