The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

Not accepting racism shouldn't be seen as "liberal identity politics", it's pretty much common decency.

So if you aren't racist or discriminatory in any other way, why not object to someone who uses language to perpetuate bigotry?
You can still get your economic changes the two aren't mutually exclusive.

Who has accepted racism ?

I literally give up now, this world is fecked. I just saw a poll where 92% of people believe the Moron Elect over 8% who believe the media. Obviously the poll is skewed, but still. I don't like this anymore, where do I get off?

Obviously I don't mean that! FFS!

The people who voted for a racist to be in charge of their country?

I don't get the Trump is a racist thing. He ran as a Republican (despite historically identifying as a Dem) so it was inevitable that some on the fringes would attempt to latch on to his coattails for their own nefarious motives, which he has denounced. He's just not the sort of guy who is going to behave like a flaming liberal social justice crusader. Anyone who has followed him over the past 3 decades should know this.

It's called a post election honeymoon. They all wear off after a few months.

His modern political popularity is based off the pushing of a racist lie about the first black president.

The turbulence began Tuesday morning with one of President-elect Donald Trump’s signature tweets of wrath: a public jab at Boeing alleging that the cost of building Air Force One had spiraled out of control.

That came an hour after Boeing’s chief executive was quoted questioning Trump’s stance on trade.

In the afternoon, Trump directed his attention elsewhere, taking credit in a surprise announcement for a Japanese conglomerate’s months-old pledge to invest $50 billion in the United States.

On the previous page @simonhch has transcribed a whole raft of blatantly racist statements by Trump. And this is all stuff he let slip while on the record!

Oh and this idea that anyone who takes issue with someone saying something blatantly racist is a "SJW" is one of the nastiest and most divisive outcomes of Trump's campaign.

Yes, he should have apologized for that. But since he literally never apologizes, his speech at his hotel in DC was going to have to be sufficient.

Ironically, blacks, Hispanics, and white women turned out in surprisingly high numbers for him, so I think we can comfortably snuff out the racist/mysoginist trope as a motivating factor of why people voted for him.

All of the Trump voters I know are decent people, and I know quite a few of them. None of them are racist or misogynist and most of them vote for Trump either for economics/jobs or because they like his straight talk personality.
So basically they knew nothing about the guy they voted for. It seems they knew more fake and misleading information on Clinton than the well documented facts about their own candidate.
Most of the trump voters I know are cool people but in all my time living in the US I find this true of most people I meet. But when it comes down to politics and voting for their best interests it is one of the most gullible countries in the world, certainly in the west.
Trump will take more and give less than someone like Hillary. They have had their anti establishment candidate, their Bernie if you will in Ron Paul, who always ran in a close third but totally ignored by the republicans. They decided that their champion would be Donald fecking trump and no matter what way you cut it this will be a shitty move for the world. His cabinet nominees confirm our fears, Carson for HUD, Davos for SoE and that prick for SoH. We are in for a dirty fight until this shit storm passes and Trump voters will most likely be the first ones disappointed. Hopefully Washington DC will eat him alive and mark my words, it's down hill from here for trump, inc.

Dictatorship numbers right there.

Let's be clear here, minorities were already voting in record numbers against Romney in 2012, and Trump's "success" among black voters was to score less than 10%. Hispanic voters went against him in record numbers, just not by the amount people thought they might. White women trended strongly towards Clinton as men moved strongly towards Trump, leaving a huge gender gap. He beat his breathtakingly low expectations, but he still performed extremely poorly. This is not evidence that bigotry wasn't a motivating factor behind significant amounts of his vote, given large parts of his campaign actively inflamed such sentiment.

Eh?
It's interesting you mentioned the past 3 decades. Him and his company have been accused by many people of discrimianting based on race.
He questioned the ability of a judge to do his job because he's Mexican.
He thinks all black people are poor, uneducated & living in ghettos.
I could go on for a very long time, he's said very racist things and acted in discriminatory ways for decades.

The irony is that trump voters like him because he 'says it like it is/straight talks' but when Hillary calls a group of them racist deplorables they melt down.

He said that being lazy is a trait he associates with black people. How on earth is that not the words of a racist?

I think that this is how people from that generation talked in general back in the day. He's a 70 year old guy who knows nothing about political correctness and touchy feely millenial discourse. I remember back in the 80s when Jesse Jackson referred to New York as "Hymietown", referring to Jews and the Jewish influence in NY. I don't think anyone thought Jackson was an anti-semite, he was just using polemics for effect. This is how I look at Trump's language. He has created a campaign character that he knows his crowds lap up and is doing his best to stay in character.

Those were bad decisions, but certainly not racist. I doubt the likes of Ben Carson, Omarosa, David Clarke, Steve Cortes and others would support him if they thought he was a racist.

Actively discriminating based on race is racist, by its literal definition. It's more than a 'bad decision'

And just because some people of colour support him doesn't mean he's not racist. The idea behind that is 'I can't be racist because I have a black friend' as if the thoughts and actions of a few black people is representative for all.

Its easy to say people are gullible because they support the opposition candidate. Hillary thought this as well and wound up getting humiliated on election day.

She overlooked families like this and as a result lost the election.

Raoul is a patriot - a company guy. Once the battle is over, he falls in line and supports the winner. He is definitely in the - 'let's give him a chance' group of non-trump voters.

Whereas, I am hoping he fecks up big time and most of all, I hope the 'working classes', who voted for a billionaire businessman, who hires immigrants and has his Trump line of clothing made in Bangladesh, because they wanted someone wasn't 'an elitist or out of touch', get what's coming to them....

A whole lotta pain.

Only area I want him to succeed in is National Security. That's something I'd want all American presidents to succeed in - I don't want terrorist attacks and the death of innocents.

I genuinely think Trump is problematic, just not for the shallow, half thought-out reasons our resident PC race crusaders do.

Got any more insults for people who think Trump is probably racist? There's me thinking it was the Trump voters who had a monopoly on being stereotyped over their politics.

Its not an insult - social norms have changed considerably since the likes of Trump were younger. People simply talked differently back then as they do today.

It'll escalate to "bleeding hearts" soon and Mockney will have to wade in.

Indeed. People were also more racist back then than they are today.

The only ugly difference being that Trump doesn't give a feck and continues to do as he pleases, while others sheepishly pretend to have assimilated for fear of losing their social status. There's something seductively raw and enticing about a politician in a Democratic system who says whatever he wants without any fear of retribution.

There is so much I could say to the troubling nonsense I've seen written upon these pages; but alas, all that there is left to do is despair.

You can explain philosophy to a monkey; that doesn't mean it's going to understand it.

Trump still has to do two things to win me over and none of them have to do with race.

He has to figure out a way to avoid conflicts of interest by either liquidating his assets, putting them into a blind trust, or completely estranging himself and his relatives from any perception that his Presidency is being leveraged to advance his business interests. He also has to put in place a staff that will have a hawkish view towards Russian aggression. Putting Romney or Petraeus as SecState would definitely do that.

You've had ample opportunity to get involved in the discussion in the previous Presidential election thread over the past two years.

Only to people who share his opinions. There's a word for them. A few words. Words used repeatedly in the last few pages.

If you don't share his opinions it's not seductive at all. It's appalling.

Yes and the repeated use of those words against him was clearly a winning strategy among the public as evidenced by who will be the next President.

Saying racist things without fear of retribution = seductively sexy. :wenger:

And amply involved, I have been. Those experiences only underscore the futility of arguing with people who say that doing and saying racist things, doesn't make one a racist.

Not saying racist things, having the balls to say what's on your mind. Most people, including society's left leaning social justice crusaders, say things in public then say things in private. There's an innate respect extended to people who generally say whatever the feck they want irrespective of who they are talking to and without fear of retribution.
