Thanks, I think Trump's response has been absolutely awful. All I'm saying is don't feel nostalgic for Bush. He may not have shown his contempt for others as openly, and his ego isn't as fragile as Trump, but his decisions were worse (though Trump has 3+4 years to catch up!)
Not just is the US presidency too powerful, it is also unique. In most countries, the head of state (German president, Indian president, British queen) is "above" standard party politics, and is mostly there to smile for the camera and sign things and have fancy dinners. In the US, the head of state is also head of government (chancellor/PM), which means he can do terrible things but is also the symbol of the country, so criticising him is always a little more difficult, and they often get a halo they don't deserve.
Blair is still widely hated but Bush's ratings are back to neutral. Reagan left office with
average numbers but now he is a god, both for Dems (Obama praised him in 2008) and obviously his own party.
I think that trend is not a good thing.
