The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

Indeed. Clinton is up by 1.72 million in the popular vote, a popular vote gap larger than the that held by 7 people who won the presidency.
Up to over 2m now.

There's good reason to have this common knowledge, namely to remind people that he doesn't have an exhaustive mandate, and as a bonus it'll likely piss him off.

He's completely malleable on most issues. For example, after talking tough on waterboarding during the campaign, he flipped his view after meeting with Mattis, who told him giving prisoners cigarettes and fast food yielded more info than torturing them. He obviously watches a lot of TV and is moderating his views according to the most controversial items he sees on the nightly TV shows.

So the media has never been more powerful? :wenger:

This could go in a few different threads but might as well post it here. Depressing as hell but not a lot to disagree with.
We probably need the modern equivalence of the Black Plague alongside geo-engineering solutions to have any hope of fixing the climate and sustain the species.

Of course, knowing us, what he described in the article will most likely be the outcome.

Was tongue in cheeks. It's meaningless though, most if not all colonies fight back against their masters eventually. Calling that an independent streak as if it's unique to the US is a bit much.

Of course, bloody Aussies are docile.

Don't think the person you responded to did that though. Don't remember any comparison to Aussies either, though maybe it happened on a page I have not read yet. :p

He didn't explicitly but I think it was hinted at.

The Aussies part is just a weak attempt at humour. Probably true though. Tony Abbott was big on bringing back the Honours system down here

Didn't really see that. Maybe that is how he meant it, maybe it is something being read into it for other reasons.

Oh for the sake of feck

Maybe Elon Musk, The Gates and a few others could make a deal with Trump to buy NASA. The money could go towards a proper infrastructure plan and NASA could go all out to get the sanest people off this fecking planet, start fresh without the idiots.

Jaysus. Anyone read this? He's such a gobshite.
fecking hell, I'm getting headaches and shooting pains behind my eyes reading the Trump parts, such an illiterate cnut. The person that transcribed that should be nominated for the Pulitzer. I'm going to try and get past the first bit after my breakfast and a bowl, see if that helps me.

Christ, his repeating things twice always makes me think of Good Fellas with that one mobster who always said everything twice. I read the first bit, nobody in that article is coming across looking very good.

Stick with it. You wouldn't think it was possible for him to talk more bollox than he does in the first bit but he somehow plumbs new depths. The climate change discussion is heart-breaking. He also blatantly doesn't understand the conflict of interest legislation. The whole interview is basically a not vey intelligent man bullshitting his way through some tricky issues, without even showing a hint of competence re his future job. What we all expected/feared tbh.

I actually scrolled forward to that part and it made me feel sick to my stomach. Even worse his supporters will read the interview and think he did well.

Been through LBJ (okay I was a little tyke), Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama and now Trump. This is the first time where I just have immense trouble reading or listening to anything a President has said

I second that.

I read maybe 3/4 of that, which was a proper chore. It really does seem like he's just whinging it!

You know when in school/college you had something to present but didn't really put any effort or study into it? That's Trump's entire life.

Speaking of, I was googling "Trump verbatim" to amuse myself and stumbled upon this. Apparently it's been tough transcribing him, who would've thought.

Can you imagine the poor translators at the United Nations or during international summit or even a one on one meeting with another head of state?

Hadn't thought of that. US translators are going to have to be appointed and confirmed by the Senate at this rate, since they'll have so much leeway to make Trump's words into whatever they think makes some sense.

I just imagine Trump meeting with some world leader, Trump says something, the other world leader looks to his translator who just holds his hands up and shrugs his shoulders because he has no idea what Trumpie just saidet alone how to translate it.

I read a bit more of this and his answers on the Paris agreement, wind turbines and the conflict of interest are just mind-numbingly stupid. Unbelievable.
I don't think he understand what "The president can't have conflicts of interests" means.

Just read the entire thing and honestly expected it to be worse. I worry about his views on climate change but most of that interview is him doing what politicians do best skirting around the true answer. He certainly used the time to revert some of his more extreme campaign promises. Very much trying to rebrand himself with all these media peices.

He basically sounds like a director at a boardroom or annual meeting, ignorant of the detail and only focused on a vague direction. I doubt he's ever going to be as clued up as Obama, the best case is he listens to the experts available to him.

Don't think Trump cares about South Carolina politics...this is him getting in a female and a minority at that. Not to mention, he'll be all...'She might not have supported me, but, I don't care...I don't hold grudges'

She'll reply - 'When the President asks you to serve your country...no true patriot can say no. I, Nimrata..sorry, Nikki, am a Patriot'

It seems an interviewer can ask him anything about international affairs and he won't have a clue.

"Manson Family? Wonderful entrepreneurs, I know them well. Castlevania? Great country."
