The Media and their treatment of Raheem Sterling | Agrees new 5 year deal

It’s a bit of a crap tattoo but who gives a feck, really? It’s a bizarre obsession with him isn’t it? It’s not like he’s David Beckham. Not that Beckham, or anyone, deserves that kind of treatment, but Sterling isn’t on the same level of celebrity so I find it all especially weird.

Story about his father is sad. The tat is not even finished.

Who cares what one man does to his own body? Anyone upset by this should reflect on their own lives and ask themselves why they're so unhappy. Also, if it upsets you that much, don't fecking look at it!

I'm not a fan of tattoos but that's my own personal taste, don't really see what he's done wrong. I'm sure there are other players who have them. His performance at the Euros was the most disgraceful I've seen from an England player but he's in the squad so need to get on with it.

The obsession some part of the press have with him is ridiculous and over the top.

Get a massive "X" tattooed over the M16 and it's a great anti-gun statement.

It's a poor taste tattoo in my opinion and I fail to see why anyone would want that, especially if his father was killed by a gun. Obviously though it's his body and he's entitled to do what he wants with it.

In isolation with the World Cup coming up and him being a star England player, this kind of story sells, however there has been a strange obsession with him from the media in recent years. Perhaps a naïve move imo but it doesn't deserve much scrutiny.

It obviously means something to him.

And that's fine. I think it's also worth saying that if that was any other England player with that tattoo, it would still make headlines, irrespective of the agenda against Sterling.

There's an expectation from some that the players should be role models, which is probably a bit outdated.

Maybe, but definitely not "X facing calls to be axed from World Cup squad over 'disgraceful tattoo'" style headlines

The way he’s being treated is disgusting.

"Gunned down to death" did make me chuckle.

Also, what 2 year old makes lifetime promises about not touching firearms? Its quite a funny tweet about something that obviously very shit.

He probably could have chosen something more approproiate. My nan died of cancer, but i'm not going to get a tattoo of a cancer cell to remember her by.

The Sun is of course famously in tune with the feelings of Liverpool fans.

Before he left Liverpool, they (Sun and other papers) hardly posted anything about the player, once he left Liverpool it's just pathetic witch hunt.

It is a stupid thing to make headlines over, but again, it isn't really a Raheem Sterling thing? People just seem to really want it to be.

Which England player is it exactly who could turn up for training, showing off a tattoo of a gun on their leg on social media, and expect not to receive negative attention from the likes of The Sun?

Are people suggesting that the reason this attracted criticism is only because it's Raheem Sterling? Because that's completely ridiculous and I suspect anyone claiming that actually, knows full well it is.

The tired headline also I believe relates back to a time previous to that when Sterling actually refused the opportunity to play for England because he "felt tired", which if anything he got off extremely lightly for.

This is all a bit tedious from all sides really. I don't know why he thinks showing off a tattoo of a machine gun is a good idea...especially if he's then going to moan that people misread what it means. It's a tattoo of a gun. If you're not going to explain it, but are going to show it off, expect people to not understand.

I also don't know why anyone cares or why there needs to be headlines about it. I also don't know why people feel the need to pretend only Raheem Starling would get criticism for this sort of thing. The papers are constantly full of shite judging all manner of famous people for every tiny thing that they do.

That would be fine in isolation Noodle, but look at all this shit:

Who cares?

Some woman wants him to laser remove the tattoo before he plays for England. Absolute nut job.

Yes, except when you actually go through that thread and look at the papers, half of them aren't even criticising him at all.

Then quite a few of the ones that are criticising him have been deliberately placed without context...like the one apparently calling him a failure for buying a sink, which is actually dated about 2 days after England lost to Iceland. Or the one apparently calling him a rat just for being on holiday, which is actually calling him a rat for flaunting around with two women who aren't his girlfriend, while on holiday. It a just typical media gibberish that wouldn't exist if people weren't nosey opinionated cnuts.

The one or two in there that are questionable, are actually from the Daily Mail rather than the Sun. You can go through The Daily Mail website or paper on any given day and pick out about 20 articles which have some kind of prejudice or borderline racist undertone.

One of the things I hate most about social media is the way people use it to dishonestly peddle an agenda or argument like this.

I don't get the problem, it's just a picture of a gun.

It's a picture of a black man with a tattoo of his gun? What if he uses the very same tattoo to Rob someone, or rape someone? Won't somebody please think of the children?!

I hate that this shithouse newspaper make me want to defend a City player ffs

I wish he could just turn around to them and tell them to go feck themselves,

My exact reaction. Who the feck thinks they can go around demand other people removes certain tattoos? Shows why we live in a joke of a society these days when people think they can tell other people what to do in their private lives.
