The Media and their treatment of Raheem Sterling | Agrees new 5 year deal

That is a pretty fecking stupid tattoo to be fair.

Fecking shut up.

Didn’t know there’s a criteria for what’s considered a stupid tattoo or not and for the most part tattoos aren’t meant to be for others to judge, it’s a persons choice that has meaning to themself...

What work world do u live in? People judge everyone in some way it’s human nature. FFS we judge people on what football team they support, people taking the moral high ground now is laughable.

Yeah I think any England player getting a gun tattoo on their leg just before the World Cup would have made the news.
Not that it matters, power to him, can do whatever he wants with his body and anybody offended by it can feck off.

'Sun of a Gun! Hot shot Harry to fire England to WC glory'

well excuse me ?!
I don't mean it like that Chaddy.,,I just mean footballers with high profiles might not think it's more prestigious than playing for England. If I were him, I'd be proud to represent Jamaica and help them to qualify for the next World cup.
As a regular visitor to Jamdown, I can assure you I don't mean anything bad:D I have too many good times and friends there:)

"You don't like tattoos of guns? Don't get a tattoo of a gun" should've been Sterling's only comment on his shitty tattoo.

He shouldn't care what anyone (including me) thinks and he did not need to explain himself to The Sun.

He should explain his stupid running style before anything else.

Rich, black and not entirely English.

Then those bigots need to take a good look at the current England squad, one that features players such as Walker (Whose dad was Jamaican), Young (Whose Dad was also Jamaican), Rose (Again with recent Jamaican ancestry), Delph (Who has Guyanese ancestry), Cahill (Who has a Irish Grandparent), Alexander-Arnold (Whose Grandmother was Scottish), Dier (Grew up in Portugal), Alli (Whose Dad was Nigerian), Wellbeck (Whose Parents are from Ghana), Kane (Whose Dad was Irish), Rashford (Whose family is ultimately from St. Kitts), Gomez (Whose Dad was from The Gambia and his Mum is from Spain), Tarkowski (Whose Grandad is from Poland), Bertrand (Whose Grandad is Irish), Keane (One of his Parents is Irish), Smalling (Whose has Jamaican Ancestry), Lallana (Whose Grandad is Spanish), Oxlade-Chamberlain (Whose has Jamaican Ancestry), Winks (Whose Mum is Spanish) and Abraham (Who is of Nigerian ancestry).

So considering how Sterling is as English as all those players, spending the first few years of your life overseas does not really make a great deal of difference in the great scheme of things, even if you are a bigot.

Reactions: Cheesy
Lucy Cope, who founded Mothers Against Guns after her son Damian was shot dead outside a club in central London in 2002, told the newspaper the tattoo was “totally unacceptable”. “We demand he has the tattoo lasered off or covered up with a different tattoo,” she said. “If he refuses he should be dropped from the England team. He’s supposed to be a role model but chooses to glamorise guns.”

Wtf, she ain't shy... Sure, she is fighting for a noble cause with MAG, but her demands are ridicolous. As FA I wouldn't even respond to it, I'd be much more worried about the fact the players are using social media during training ;)

I'm happy we don't have that kind of extreme gossip media in the Netherlands, I will never understand I think.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on the matter.

There is no moral high ground, nothing about it. It’s just stupid some people think someone getting a tattoo is something they can judge him on especially the media and write a story / make a headline. Madness if you ask me.

But yet we slag off all fans of various teams, simply because they support a given team? It life, Sterling had/has a bad boy image, a tattoo of an assault rifle down his lower leg will raise eyebrows, to think otherwise is naive.

Naive? So he should constantly think about his actions and what people will think of it? I don't agree. He should be able to do what he wants, without people judging him. Who are we to do so? It's only a tattoo... It's becoming fashion to be an ethic police officer. Which can be good, but don't exaggerate.

Sky Sports News add 'again' to Sterling's statement about never touching a gun

I’d like to see Southgate speak up about this at his next press conference. Some newly-mouthed ‘support’ from the FA doesn’t cut it.

What do u think of City fans or Liverpool fans? If ur honest I will be incredibly surprised. Again I have tattoos, but before I get one I think of what and where. Yes he should think, he is in a privileged position. This fantasy land people are portraying in this thread that people don’t get judged is laughable.

I mean if anyone walked about with an assault rifle as a tattoo and genuinely thought it wouldn’t get a reaction, your pretty fecking dim.

His 'privilege ' is a consequence of his talent.

Of course but having an assault rifle as a tattoo will cause a reaction. What’s too argue about here, if you seen a guy with a tattoo of a needle of heroin or a gram of coke what would your reaction be?

'What a stupid tattoo...'

Why are u asking me? I don’t have one, ask The Sun lol. I don’t have a problem with Tattoos I have some but I know I’m judged on them, I don’t think less of the people that don’t like them.

Would I get a tattoo of a gun? No.
Refering to your first paragraph on Sterling's influence on kids in gangs. I still don't get the point you tried to make by saying kids in gangs would find the tattoo cool

It's a poor taste tattoo in my opinion and I fail to see why anyone would want that, especially if his father was killed by a gun. Obviously though it's his body and he's entitled to do what he wants with it.

In isolation with the World Cup coming up and him being a star England player, this kind of story sells, however there has been a strange obsession with him from the media in recent years. Perhaps a naïve move imo but it doesn't deserve much scrutiny.
It's not in poor taste at all.

So did he.

Also, 'You're'. And it would get a 'reaction' from overly judgemental people. It's just a bloody tattoo. Do we not play videogames/watch movies with guns and violence in them? Does playing GTA cause you to be 'judged'? What if the tattoo was of the Terminator? Does that mean he's in favour of killing machines which is like a gun? The mental gymnastics at play here is hilarious. It's a darn gun tattoo.

Tell that to the families of young black kids getting slaughtered by other black kids with guns on London’s streets at present.

Like it or not, Sterling is a high profile player representing England and everything he says or does in public is going to be scrutinised. It goes with the territory. It’s not racism as some have implied or suggested, look at past media treatment of the likes of Rooney and other white England players. Give the media something to run with and they’ll run with it. Why would anyone expect any different?

Yes, it’s only a gun tattoo. But put it on the leg of an England player and place it in the current social context and it takes on rather more significance. Surely you can see that.

I don’t see why this is an issue.

People need to grow the feck up.

I'm surprised there are people on the caf who have a problem with a gun tattoo. Its his fecking choice. there is nothing wrong with a tattoo.

You mean the ‘gangstas in the hood’ that you referred to earlier?
Also, kids are getting stabbed, not shot. Plus the hyperbole surrounding murder in London is well and truly exaggerated in the media, no doubt you’ve been influenced.

Finally, I’m sure he accepts that he is going to be scrutinised but what he chooses to do with his body is his choice. He wants to commemorate his father and refer to his leg as the ‘shooter’ what’s the problem?
Did he hurt anybody?
Insult anybody?
Offend anybody?

No.

Tell them that guns are also used the army and military to protect the borders and civilians. I'm all for gun control but it's your fault if you want to interpret the image of a weapon using a negative connotation. I suppose Arsenal should remove the cannon from their logo too as it represents violence. They are a london club after all. Heck, ban use of the image of guns everyone. Makes total sense.

No one is expecting any different. We're expecting posters here be more level headed and calling out the media as deserved.

"Stabbed, not shot". Right. https://www.london.gov.uk/sites/default/files/20180123_final_pcc_gun_crime_findings_report.pdf

You're demonstrating a naivety beyond belief.

It's as if no one remember all the outrage when a peak Robbie Keane was consistently doing his gun fingers celebration...oh wait
