SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

I have a grave feeling that by the time this is over we all might know someone in our daily lives affected by it and I seriously hope I'm wrong for Christ sake.

Pull through Boris! I'm as left as anyone else on here but you don't want to see anyone on the other end of the spectrum lose their lives in their prime.

I have to admit, I've tried to remain positive and jovial but this news is bringing some repressed emotions out. I'm no Boris fan but I certainly don't think he's a bad guy at heart. Hope he makes it for the country's sake.

Any medical theories on the male/female split? Appears to be a consistent trend of male numbers being higher.

Maybe, i just don't know though. It seems very odd how they'd put someone there for monitoring, especially if they have a big influx of patients, which can happen at any time.

As i say though, you quite possibly could be very right. It's a grim situation no matter how you look at it :(

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm fully prepared to believe that his condition has been significantly worse throughout this than we've been led to believe. I just don't think that it would be a scandal for him to have been moved to an ICU bed if there is a surplus and the potential that he might need one.

And at the end of the day, he is the Prime Minister at a time of national trouble. I would think it fairly odd if he wasn't getting special treatment.

You really should give up trying to talk sense. Obviously the U.K. Chief Scientific and Medical Advisors should have been ignored as Pexbo suggests. Anyone with the slightest bit of intelligence would know that.

I don't think you fully understand the point here. The consequences of the solution they wanted to opt for was easy to see from day one given the development in other countries, and it was piss easy to point out the obvious mistakes as well...And the poster you're quoting has been consistently wrong on the subject of covid-19

It would shock me more if he didn't get special treatment and the best possible care. Still, i'd like to believe that anyone in his situation would get the same treatment. Still, everyone with Covid-19 is in the best hands with some of the most dedicated staff you can get.

It also wouldn't shock me if his condition is severe and Number 10 is on damage control to calm everyones nerves. Hopefully this isn't the case and as you it's a case of surplus beds and being extremely cautious.

Higher smoking rate would be my first guess. Also in places like China and India, female children were selectively aborted not long ago so the general proportion of males in the population is higher.

What possible advantage do we have knowing the private minute by minute health care of a man in a serious condition? We do not need to know at this time. People are just fecking nosey.
At what point did I say that? Weird.

It's absolutely disgusting to wish someone, however, much you dislike that person the worst. Just be quiet if you can't be decent.

I've seen some filthy stuff in public bathrooms. Inclined to believe women have a lot better hygiene.

I think it's bollocks. I think he's been in there since yesterday (hence that Russia report) and this is potentially getting the public ready for the worse.
Sorry If I have missed something obvious, what is this russian report ?
I bought two month's worth of ale 6 weeks ago. That's gone well. And gone a long time ago.

I know the feeling  I have been picking up my weekend ale on a Monday after work and running out before the weekend starts and having to restock and so on.

Just got to thinking about all the shit that's gone down in the UK over the last 5 years now with Boris being hospitalised.. in an alternate world we could've had Ed Miliband elected in 2015 instead of Cameron and only now would we be coming to the end of his term, with probably about a tenth of the drama we've had

He really has and he won't even get the credit for it, instead everyone will just blame him for his scientists feck ups.

Mate people are throwing a shit-fit in here if someone so much dares to criticise the racist, not to mention he just recently romped the election with a massive majority. What's more likely to happen is that if he survives this and recovers well he'll be the second coming of Churchill and will be near enough untouchable as far as public persona goes.

Also, the guy who makes the final decisions getting the blame for said decisions is generally how stuff works, yeah.

It's okay to wish people die on a pandemic but when you accidentally wish an injury purely for a sports competition then you get points and warnings.

Not right and people are people.
Just quoting this incase anyone missed it, if you have nothing nice to say get on twitter with the rest of the numptys, the poor guy could be on his death bed.

And that goes for the posters wishing it was Trump instead, yeah the guys a bit of a maniac but wishing potential death on someone is pretty fecking sick in my opinion.

I think possibly because pre-menopause women have hormones that are cardioprotective (especially oestrogen), which is why women's risk of heart attacks only really catches up to men post-menopausal and why men have heart attacks earlier. Might also be differences in gender expressions of ACE2 protein along with loads of other things like smoking with increased prevalence in men

You haven't seen a women's bathroom.

Enlighten us. I know there was some nasty stuff happening in the girls' bathroom in high school (used tampons in the toilet paper holder and such stuff). But in general I refuse to believe that women are anywhere near as careless as men when it comes to washing hands etc.

We did lose Spencer Percival to assassination in the early 19th century. He was MP for my home town.
Prime Minister Lloyd George nearly died of Spanish Flu in 1918. He was 55 and was seriously ill for 10 days on a respirator. Same age as Boris, Hopefully Boris will have the same outcome and be ok.

Only going on what I've been told in the past by women. There's a reason they invented the hover.

I have a bad feeling that we will wake up to the news that he’s died
I've had that feeling since last night. VDO below (shared a few days ago by @Raoul) easily explains how the virus evolves and wreaks his havoc, once it enters your body. Generally speaking, its not a major threat for vast vast majority of people. But when it becomes a problem, you are in serious trouble. The numbers also back that up.

My sister told me a few days ago the degradation post ICU can be very rapid and that she's overseen patients die within a few hours after entering ICU. There is very little doctors can do, aside from make you more comfortable, buy your immune system some extra time via a ventilator, and hope your body can repair itself.

The language in the Press Release is written by savvy spin doctors, trying their best to make it sound least alarming as possible. But Im in no doubt, BoJo has entered the genuine problem phase, and could be just hours away from his end.

Trump:
We are working with London with respect to Boris Johnson. He’s been a really good friend. He doesn’t give up ... We’ve contacted all of Boris’ doctors ... When you get brought into intensive care, that gets very, very serious.

Now is not the time to talk about the litany of intentional decisions Boris Johnson and those like him have made in recent times, which have landed the UK in this situation, with thousands of people less fortunate than him being in far worse situations. Don't you know he has <insert emotive topic which also can relate to those affected by his decisions>?

I wonder what Boris's doctors think of Trump contacting them and interrupting them while they're working

I bet he's pushing HCL too, the cnut.

It's quite incredible and also scary that in the space of about 3 weeks Boris has gone from bragging about shaking hands with patients to being in intensive care. I hope he pulls through this. There's also a clap for him tomorrow night apparently.
