SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

What? They didn’t ”chose”, the advise came from The Chief Scientific Adviser to the Government of the United Kingdom and his team.

You really should give up trying to talk sense. Obviously the U.K. Chief Scientific and Medical Advisors should have been ignored as Pexbo suggests. Anyone with the slightest bit of intelligence would know that.

I'm not saying it isn't true, but this would be a really good way to get people in this country taking this thing seriously and staying the feck at home.

And my faith in the sense of some on the caf to see an argument for what it actually is, is thankfully restored.

Just maybe, the bigger problem is that your style is quite annoying, more so than your different views, that are actually shared by many nordic and german posters, largely because we are in different situation than the countries in more imminent crisis. Whereas @Arruda is loved by everyone, obviously.

I think the problem lies in basing your entire points by cherry picking what certain countries are doing to prove a point and it rubs posters up yhe wrong way.
As if they are right and the rest of the world are wrong.
Do Sweden and Denmark have more experts than the rest of the world?

And you don’t think that posters are cherry picking on the opposite side basically arguing that in the Western world everyone was in step with regards to what measures to implement and how quickly to implement with the exception of the U.K. and The USA?

After press conference today things developed quickly and he detoriated. He was given oxegen shortly after and admitted about 1900 after suffering from breathing difficulties into ICU He isn't on a ventilator but in unit and ventilator there should his condition worsen.

Well said.

Hope Boris Johnson pulls through. Wish it was the other moron across the pond. He can OD in his Chloroquine.

Or more scarily professing that the government should have impinged on our civil liberties far more aggressively early on by tracking all our phones and locking citizens up who'd been in contact with people who tested positive. Frightening.

Not a natural death. But we did lose Spencer Percival to assassination in the early 19th century. He was MP for my home town.

This has nothing to do with Boris Johnson or Corona but do check out Spencer Perceval by I Like Trains. Epic post-rock song written from the perspective of the murderer. Posted that in the What are we listening thread a few days ago.

Sorry for off-topic.

The thing i don't understand about that is would they really put someone on ICU, given how in demand them beds are now, just as a precaution for monitoring?

I'm not sure, but still, i wish him all the best and a very speedy recovery!

I'm fairly certain they said today we currently have a surplus of beds still, so if the capacity is there why not?

I think it's bollocks. I think he's been in there since yesterday (hence that Russia report) and this is potentially getting the public ready for the worse.

You absolutely despise? Nice and compassionate are not mutually exclusive. It's a pity many of the posters with frankly abhorrent attitudes didn't have to go through the newbie system.

Cal is probably hoping Messi comes down with a dose so Ronaldo can tie him on Ballon d’or.

You soon see the good of people in a crisis but then you also see the other side of the coin too.

It's okay to wish people die on a pandemic but when you accidentally wish an injury purely for a sports competition then you get points and warnings.

Not right and people are people.

He's unwell enough that the doctors think he may need ventilation, he's not gone there just for monitoring. So it makes sense for him to be in the unit now, with equipment there ready to go if needed. Things can change very rapidly.

Maybe, i just don't know though. It seems very odd how they'd put someone there for monitoring, especially if they have a big influx of patients, which can happen at any time.

As i say though, you quite possibly could be very right. It's a grim situation no matter how you look at it :(

On the other hand he's basically the person in the country with the highest priority. He'll probably get taken into ICU and cared for way better/more individually than regular people who made up the 50% death rate.
Are you alluding that the people working around the clock to try to save lives in the ICUs around the world aren't doing their best for the patients that aren't the prime minister, and that they could squeeze out an extra 5% of good old fashioned healthcare if the patient's important enough?

If so, you might want to rethink that incredibly disrespectful armchair statement. Have you ever been to an ICU and seen what goes on?

Look, if you don't have anything nice to say about Boris as he lays in intensive care with his pregnant wife in bits then maybe don't say anything at all, yeah?
Just quoting this incase anyone missed it, if you have nothing nice to say get on twitter with the rest of the numptys, the poor guy could be on his death bed.

And that goes for the posters wishing it was Trump instead, yeah the guys a bit of a maniac but wishing potential death on someone is pretty fecking sick in my opinion.

That does make sense. I do work within the NHS, but i work within the operating theatres, so i don't know how wards/ICU work. I imagine that, as you say, situations can change rapidly, and i've been given a lot of training on monitoring/how Covid-19 affects patients etc.

Exactly and how would people like it if armchair warriors were laughing and wishing ill on a family member of their own.

I don't know how it is in England but in Sweden, we don't have arterial cannulas in most 'regular' non-ICU wards. Arterial cannulas allow for easy and repeated blood sampling which would reveal a deterioration that is not seen on the monitor where you typically just see heart rate, oxygen saturation and blood pressure.

It also allows us to see the blood pressure with every single heartbeat which can allow for blood pressure increasing medications to be introduced earlier (even though there is no real evidence that arterial blood pressure monitoring improves outcomes).

Plus, being in an ICU where all intubation equipment is located obviously makes an intubation smoother than doing an emergency intubation in a ward outside the ICU (and safer from a patient POV and in terms of spreading it to those in the vicinity).

Boris has tried to keep going when he was clearly a sick man who needed to rest. You have to admire him for that, he's done his best to step up to the plate at a time of national crisis.
He really has and he won't even get the credit for it, instead everyone will just blame him for his scientists feck ups.

I have spent the last week dealing with lots of positive patients and the craziest thing that surprises so many doctors is how quickly this thing progresses in a lot of patients . People can go from not needing much oxygen to getting maximum amount possible in the matter of hours. I think that the most likely scenario is that they might try some non invasive ventilation and see if he can get through without intubation

It kind of fecks up someone's argument of your words can be paraphrased as "this person has caused others to suffer so I'm going to be the same and wish he suffers too". An eye for an eye and the world goes blind, except for the one eyed guy who's left who just runs away and hides behind a bush, so to speak.

Boris should have resigned before being taken to ICU, or should resign if he's still conscious. He could be put in an induced coma any minute, and if it's getting to this level of seriousness he could be seriously ill for a long time and with how fat he is his chance of a heart attack will be huge even if he makes a full recovery. We can't have someone leading us through a medical crisis when they could drop dead with little warning. The first ministers role should be to steer the country until a new leader is picked not indefinitely.

I have a grave feeling that by the time this is over we all might know someone in our daily lives affected by it and I seriously hope I'm wrong for Christ sake.

Pull through Boris! I'm as left as anyone else on here but you don't want to see anyone on the other end of the spectrum lose their lives in their prime.

It will be a precaution but he's the PM. He will have every piece of equipment he could possibly need on standby.
