SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

Every few days something else happens which just magnifies the enormity of this pandemic.
Get well soon, Boris!

This really is shocking. The nation will be on tenterhooks if this plays out over days. I did feel like we were all getting into a bit of complacency these last couple of days.

My wife was tested as positive today, she had barely any symptoms outside of body aches so it's really fortunate. But it goes to show how varied it can be when it affects people.

Really hope Borris pulls through.

Whereabouts in the world are you? I know a few people with symptoms and nobody can get a test.

You asked if the idea of people dying could be funny, I showed you how it apparently can be to some people. Take it up with the funnyman responsible.
Got not bones with you, mate - some people will laugh at any old shit. Probably the same people who believe that 5G masts are killing everyone.

What? They didn’t ”chose”, the advise came from The Chief Scientific Adviser to the Government of the United Kingdom and his team.
Can then someone explain why the worst policies (and contrary to what everyone else was doing) were made from countries who seem to be tired of experts and have nutters (or wannabe nutters) in charge? Talking here for the US and the UK. Oh, add Brazil there. I think that I see a pattern.

I think the problem lies in basing your entire points by cherry picking what certain countries are doing to prove a point and it rubs posters up yhe wrong way.
As if they are right and the rest of the world are wrong.
Do Sweden and Denmark have more experts than the rest of the world?

No, you guys are always desperate to create a strawman in here.

Germany are talking about an exit plan, and Austria too. I’m not “cherry-picking”, I think it’s obvious now that we’ll have to slowly open up and try to keep things under control in ALL countries, once the opportunity is there.

But yeah “chatting shit”, “don’t know shit” etc etc.

If you plan isn’t to lockdown for 12 months then I’m not cherry picking or chatting shit at all, I’m saying it’s good news when a country who feels they have a stable situation, wants to start opening up slowly again.

The anger and arrogance in here though to anyone who dares to question.

Hoping Boris pulls through but in a weird way it could be the shock to the system to all those dickheads acting as normal to keep them inside more.

Boris has tried to keep going when he was clearly a sick man who needed to rest. You have to admire him for that, he's done his best to step up to the plate at a time of national crisis.

Quite right.
Whatever you think about his politics he was clearly working his bollocks off to try and make things better right up until he gets admitted to hospital and then icu.
He has a pregnant wife.
Have some fecking decency ffs.
God forbid some of you pricks are ever in the same situation..........

Has any British prime minister died whilst being in power?

Think next 24 hours are crucial or so I've heard from Twitter.

Weren't you the 'carry on and keep going to football matches' guy?

This is huge. It feels like the princess Diana news in its magnitude. I hope he pulls through, but he's obviously been working hard while being unwell, which isn't good. I fear the worst.

Hopefully he pulls through - that is obvious for anyone with any humanity.
And you hope he is then given a proper period of recovery.

Does seem a trend in when we get a smaller glimmer of hope the virus comes back with a vengance in some way.

Didn't sleep that well last night thinking I'd wake up to news we've got now (or worse). Mad how a person you've never met or even think is right for the huge role they have can impact like this.

That depends on the exact nature of the lockdown they already have and the exact nature of the measures they are planning to roll back. I do not know them in detail.

Why aren't you discussing Sweden anymore? I said no one would be stupid enough to say "I told you so" in something as tragic as this, but you tempted me beyond reason.

How fecking stupid it would be to say “I told you so” one month into a pandemic.

Sweden for 2 weeks have had a stable number coming into ICU daily and feel they are in a good position, and the curve for winter sickness and flu has dropped off a cliff showing that their social distancing these past 2 weeks is having a big effect.

But do carry on being arrogant as feck about a situation that no-one knows the long term answer to just yet.

Has any British prime minister died whilst being in power?

Seven Prime Ministers have died in office:

Can then someone explain why the worst policies (and contrary to what everyone else was doing) were made from countries who seem to be tired of experts and have nutters (or wannabe nutters) in charge? Talking here for the US and the UK. Oh, add Brazil there. I think that I see a pattern.
The US and Brazil were just out of sheer stupidity, there wasn't even any kind of herd immunity argument. It was mostly pitched by politicians saying "this ain't shit". Didn't the Netherlands also lean in the direction the UK was initially?

What's the protocol if he dosen't make it, a day or two of national mourning e.g. just stay inside your fecking homes. Would imagine all essential shops would be closed for a day.

Also normally a state funeral but no idea in the current circumstances how that would work or even when it would take place.

Let's hope it dosen't come to it. As others have said it's the very last thing this country needs with all it's going through.

We've had some decent exchanges on other footy threads...but I have to ask. Are you on a mission to get yourself a ban today fella? Seem to have been in the thick of arguments all day

UK's (said by Boris) "herd immunity" strategy was the most idiotic response someone ever said. It was sheer idiocity, and I cannot believe that an expert actually chose that option. The experts actually do not choose options, they offer options to the politicians.

Weird arguments for me.

RAB: Boris isn’t a scientist, he’s a twerp, went on advise of his Chief Scientific Advisor.
Caf: feck me, you don’t know shit, Boris is responsible for killing so many.

RAB: it’s good Denmark feel they have it under control and feel the can slowly start to open again.
Caf: chatting shit again, learnt nothing. Arrggggghhhh.

I guess I should just go along with the group and fit in.

One thing to note from that report is that 83% of patients that only received basic respiratory support have survived. It's the patients who move onto advanced respiratory support that the situation is very bleak for (2 in 3 don't make it). As far as we know Boris has only had to receive basic support so far.
Definitions said:
Advanced respiratory: invasive ventilation, BPAP via translarygeal tube or tracheostomy, CPAP via translaryngeal tube, or extracorporeal respiratory support

Basic respiratory: >50% oxygen by face mask, close observation due to potential for acute deterioration, physiotherapy/suction to clear secretions at least two-hourly, recently extubated after a period of mechanical ventilation, mask/hood CPAP/BPAP, non-invasive ventilation, CPAP via a tracheostomy, intubated to protect airway

"In power"... :wenger: in office I meant.

Thanks mate. Hope he pulls through. Another kid on the way ffs.

England, but she works in ICU at a hospital so she was tested next day when she said had body aches. High risk of contracting plus they desperately need ICU trained staff so it was important to find out. She can go back to work next week.

So a prime minister hasn't died in office in 155 years nearly.
