Ruud van Nistelrooy | Leaves United

I will be surprised if Amorin keeps Ruud as part of the coaching staff. He most likely wants a clean slate

At best he will be offered some low level job with little to no influence on the first team

It was clear as day that Ruud was not staying

Anyway thanks for the memories Ruud

Next is Darren Fletcher....will his role change in the first team? Possibly

Probably for the best but still makes me sad. I just love the man. Atleast I hope he got a nice send off money.

What a send off he got yesterday. So pleased for him. He looked like a proud man walking off the pitch to a standing ovation and his name being sang again…and so he should. Well done Ruud. Good luck with future roles.

Just to add. Whilst I think we’ve had better partnerships over the years…Ruud pound for pound is by far the best striker we’ve had for a long long time

The right decision, everyone wins.

Ruud's reputation as a coach is enhanced from his arrival, Amorim is coming in and getting a clean slate.

Legend!! Ruud's time to return would come shortly. The online fanbase has been wrong about Van Gaal, Mourinho and Ten Hag and would likely be wrong about Amorim (a 39 year old coming in and sacking the previous team). Mostly wrong about Ole as well - only manager to finish in the top 4 in consecutive years.
Ole was wank and ruined plenty of our players career by indulging in them. He probably did the most damage out of all our managers with how many talented players who made the first team and stagnated under him.

Wish him all the best. His reputation is still intact, so hopefully he will get decent job offers and able to prove himself.

Thinking logically, it's the right move for Amorim and Ruud. Amorim clearly has a backroom staff he trusts and works with, especially his top assistants. If he had no role for Ruud, it would be pretty insulting to just have him as part of the setup in a a Benny McCarthy/Fletcher role in training. Ruud is head coach material and at worst a No.2, so if he wasn't going to have that responsibility he was better off leaving.

The person who really screwed Ruud was ETH by doing such a terrible job. The person I feel for the most in all of this is Rene Hake. He left a permanent job to be without a permanent job four months later and without a reputation boost like Ruud did.
Good post. For me, there has to be a better solution for Ruud in the wake of Sir Alex being stripped of his ambassador role. Of course they won't offer that because we are penny pinchers.

He was sold a project and lasted a few months. That's an indictment of the way the club is being run. If he steps away from the assistant role and gets some kind of other role, fine. But my money based on what I've heard him say is on Ruud telling em to eff off and take the pay off to the end of his contract...2026!!

Whatever your position is, at the very least we have thrown away millions on a pay off to Ruud.

No sentiment? The club was built on bloody sentiment.

No it wasn’t

Matt busby played for Liverpool and city.
SAF had no previous connections at all with MUFC

Maybe we should have hired Steve Coppull or Lou Macari back in 1986 as they were club legends that “got the club”.

Hire on merit and not emotion.

If I remember Ruud's name was mentioned before he joined us as a possible manager (first team coach) at Burnley? Won't be long before his name is put forward again for a similar job, the last few weeks have been a great cameo for him. I was annoyed that Moyes came in and basically dumped every member of the proven back room in favor of his own team but I feel this is the correct choice for Amorim at this stage. Let Ruud thrive somewhere to see what he's like over a longer period and who knows, he may be back in a few years.

Always had to happen and I think that was obvious enough.

Got there for the game, great send off for him. Reputation and stock will have risen, well done and good luck Ruud

Good news, and completely the right decision from his and our perspective. If I heard the sentence "he knows the club" one more time I would have snapped.

You're assuming Ruud is an idiot and what we see in public is the same info he knows. He of course would know really what's going on and even if Ruben didn't speak to him till now, he is not stupid and can see the writing

The message for him was good and he in a way made it difficult to be kept. Essentially saying he is waiting to take over isn't great for a boss to hear
You don't take on a man with Ruud's experiences and standing who happens to be a club legend and give him a contract to the middle of 2026 and ditch him after a few months. If Amorim is their man, you get him at the start of the season. Do pre-season. Let's face it, Ten Hag was a dead man walking. But Ineos have been pathetic in the way they have dealt with this. Keep Ten Hag and bring in two new coaches including Ruud and when it all goes predictably wrong pay em off. He gets two years money at least for a few months work. Millions down the drain again while ditching Sir Alex.as a paid ambassador. Classless.

Maybe you need to take that in!! Then people don't have to keep repeating it.

Correct decision for now. Hopefully Ruud can get a good gig somewhere soon and build himself up ready for a future reunion.

Good luck and thanks for the last few weeks.

Right call , plus the other 3. I'm surprised Fletcher is still there in some capacity, he must be carrying the ball sack and cones out in training ..

Lobed Ruud as a player, and the lasflt few weeks he has done a fine job but IMHO this is absolutely the right decision. It Allows Amorin to be the boss, stops any chance of disgruntled players crying to RVN.
The new era begins.

Darren has survived multiple managers. So this new broom new staff scenario doesn't always wash.

Fans don't think of the cost of reckless management. Ah let the coaches go with two years wages for a few months work. All fine. Nothing to see.

The correct decision. Obviously a shame, because he clearly loves the club, understands the club, has a winning mentality, and has done very well since he took control. However, it's understandable Amorim wants his own staff in, and RVN is too influential of a leader to take a minor coaching role, which is all it could be because Ruben is bringing his own AM.

Frankly, I would much rather have Ruud than Fletcher as part of the set-up, but clearly Ruud has a much bigger presence, and you can have too many chefs. I am sure the club has done right by him and he's received a nice pay-off. I can only imagine that he will be back at some point in the future, in some capacity. But now is the time for a new era, and I am delighted that the club has eschewed sentimentality and instead given Amorim the platform he's asked for to succeed.

Thank you Ruud. It has been a joy to have you back at the club, you sexy bastard. I hope he gets a good head coach gig, he is clearly ready for it. He has an aura about him, and has shown himself to be quite tactically astute.

Is this one of those situations like when a new male lion shows up, he eliminates all the cubs that were fathered by the previous alpha male?

Ruud is not daft. He's not coming to Old Trafford to see him being ousted after a few months. In fact many commenators thought he had been brought in to take over when Ten Hag was finally sacked. It's a bloody mess.
Why are you so worked up?

Correct decision. Wouldn’t have been good for him or Amorim if he had hung around. Was lovely having him back and seeing him manage us for a few games, hope he does well wherever he goes.

Great first decision by Amorim, getting rid of Ruud. Ruud did great as interim but Amorim has to be his own person and have the staff that coach how he wants, with his way of playing. The recent results probably put pressure on him to keep him but he's done the right thing in trusting his coaching staff vs others that may have been pushed on him. It will mean the media get into a frenzy if the start is anything less than stellar though, and given the wholesale change in how we expect to play now, I think that he will need time to get the ideas coached into the players

According to the athletic Ruud was Erik’s choice. They have the same agent

Sad to see him go, but it is absolutely the right call. Will be interesting to see where he ends up next - should be able to land a quite decent job.
