Ruud van Nistelrooy | Leaves United

It was mentioned on Talk of the Devils that Ruud saw his return as being able to make things right following his not so amicable exit as a player.

I am super glad that he has been able to do that as I loved him when I was a kid, and is able to leave us now with his head held high along with the adoration of the fans.

Made me fall in love with United again after the other loser killed it, I’ve enjoyed his 4 games.

Easily a United legend and I hope he gets a top job somewhere else.

He obviously loved his time as an interim, he celebrated every goal like a fan.Its the right decision and I'm sure Ruud knows that but he leaves with his reputation enhanced and his legendary status intact.

Thanks for steadying the ship and giving the players some confidence back.Good luck Ruud.

Ruud was the total opposite to ETH and I think him leaving is the right thing for him, he has set himself up very well for this next job where he should be the manager/coach, not an assistant.

Sounds strange but honestly the way things turned out was pretty much perfect for him and those of us for whom he was our favourite player. Great wee run to build back confidence in the players, followed by a great send-off by the fans.

To be fair when he left as a player he left under a bit of a cloud.

He's done a lot in his time here to make me like him again, sad to see him go but the right decision.

The events of 2006 were a bit overblown imo since Fergie has had rifts with a number of players over the years (Stam, Becks, Keane etc). His performances in his first two years at Madrid reaffirmed that we let him go too early. He seems to have always been in good graces with the fans and unlike CR7, he has conducted himself very well during his most recent stint at the club.

To be fair to him, he thought Fergie was favouring the younger players over him and he was probably right on that.

He didn't like Ronaldo either and I'm with Ruud on that. Back then Ronaldo's end product was super frustrating, constantly hitting poor crosses and corners. He was greedy also and didn't look for Ruud's runs like Beckham did. His on field showboating was so annoying and this pissed Ruud off. I even remember Giggs pulling Ronaldo aside once and telling him ''we don't do that here'' referring to him trying to belittle the opposition.

Ruud was in his prime and only had a limited amount of time left to win titles. Fergie replacing the likes of Keane and Beckham with teenagers frustrated him.

I can 100% see Ruud's point of view but it's also obvious Fergie made the right call in the end as he'd go on to build one of the best teams in history.

Seems right to let him go. Under a more experienced and senior coach I would have said yes keep him, so he can gain more experience. But in this case it makes no sense, as both just kickstarted their coaching career.

This is simply not true. Literally our midfield has two players sitting and has far more tackles per game.

It objectively is true. Having more tackles per game under Ruud doesn't change the fact that we were giving up chances, and created lower quality chances than our opponents.

Hate to see Ruud have to leave the club but understandable for Ruben to not retain him and have that figure in the background overlooking him

Grateful for RVN’s work in this shaky period. Great audition for his future managerial career. Just not at United in the short term.

For context. Michael Carricks stint post Ole.
Played 3
Won 2 (Arsenal + Villarreal in the champions league)
Drew 1 (Chelsea in the league)

No none was clamoring for Carrick to stay. He certainly wasn’t openly angling for the job. Amorim already has the role filled with the team he’s worked with successfully through out his managerial career.

It is the right decision and most importantly it is proof that the new owners aren't completely spineless. Ruud came to us in the summer for one reason: to get himself in the position of becoming the new man utd permanent manager. Didn't like the way he conducted himself on the side lines while Ten Haag was in charge - reminded me of Ronaldo for Portugal during the euro final. Felt as if he was undermining Ten Haag; with one eye always on himself becoming manager. And during his 4 games in charge; His attire and overall demeanour - felt like he's been rehearsing for this role the second he joined the coaching team in the summer.

It's was different when Giggs and Carrick took over as interim manager. Being at the clubs already for years, they were well-established figures within the club who most likely had realistic expectations of what was required off them during the brief spell they were in charge until a new manager was found.

Ruud does come across as an opportunist. This isn't a bad thing when it comes to the competitiveness of globalised business, but with Amorin getting the job, you could clearly tell that Ruud had pinned all his hope on obtaining personal glory by finding himself in the managerial seat permanently - a hope that was with him from the very first second he joined us in the summer.

He can't be around the club while Amorin in charge. Gaining the endorsement from the players last week indirectly confirms the corruptness and lack of accountability that runs through the club from each and every individual. If Ruud goes off and manages elsewhere and does well, then, depending on the current situation at the time, then I would like to see him as manager.

Nothing new. Usually it happen this way

A new manager and head coach. In life. Presidents. Always bring his team/equipe with him = peoples he trust and understand most

+ Plus. 2 big egos will not work well together. Each country can only have one king.

If i was Ruud and press was asking about if i will stay or not under Ruben?

"What do you think? Not a chance i will stay. He will prefer his own staff, peoples and team"

Ruud is way to smart to know this outcome. Not a chance he will stay.

I do recognize Amorim will bring his own "science analyze too ". So not on the pitch , but normally of the pitch sector and area of Manchester United too.

Then not on the headline. Some of his team will take over other roles and position too.

And he has definitely a big word in the transfer in too. Am i sure about it.

But again. Human in a nutshell. Not wrong or right. The new head coach just "prefer " to work with peoples he trust and understand.

A fresh start makes sense, and Ruud should be a manager somewhere. You never know, he might be back someday.

That's a lot of assumption about Van Nistelrooij's motivations there. If he's such an opportunist, why didn't he just take the PSV head coach role when it was first offered to him (he refused and only relented after a lot of discussion), why did he quit that role just before the end of the season, and why didn't he coach since?

I'm not arguing United should have kept him on, I'm just questioning your character assessment here.

He has the presence and look of being a good head coach and manager. Get experience elsewhere and you never know if an opportunity arises to manage United again in the future (hopefully several years from now!).

It would be normal human behaviour anyway if he did harbour dreams of managing Manchester united. But as much as Ten Haag was way out of his depth, Ruud should of been self-aware and perhaps just reeled his passion in a little. As it stands, it's a win-win situation for the fans. We have a new manager and coaching staff coming in with their own methods; and we have Ruud potentially taking a job elsewhere. If he performs then he can seriously be considered as a contender one day for the job. Thankfully, the club didn't go down the Ole route again and acted immediately when replacing Ten Haag.

I would have kept him until summer. Dont see reasons why so many said right decision. He has all the knowledge about the players

When we won tittle in 2007, Ruud gate crashed Becks live interview (la-liga post match interview) and wildly celebrated our tittle win with Becks a year after he left UTD. that shows how much he loves UTD

Grateful for Ruud's interim stint. He carried himself really well and I'm sure there might be a few PL clubs who were impressed with him, so hopefully he gets a good managerial opportunity from it.

I've never seen that and it makes me really happy to hear as I always thought he went through a stage of being quite bitter at Utd.

When’s the last time we scored 11 goals in 4 games under Ten Hag? (excluding the Barnsley game)

The last time we scored exactly 11 goals over 4 games before the Barnsley game was in February 2024. That was a run of 4:3 win over Wolves, 3:0 win vs West Ham, 2:1 win vs Aston Villa, and 2:1 win over Luton.

The best 4 game scoring runs under Ten Hag, however, saw us score 13 goals in 4 games, and came around the same time:
  • The run starting Jan 14, 2024 with a 2:2 vs Tottenham, then a 4:2 win vs Newport county, then a 4:3 win over Wolves, and finally 3:0 win vs West Ham.
  • And obviously the 4 games starting with Newport county to Aston Villa (same period) had 13 goals

You didn't ask about this, but this run by Ten Hag over 6 games (Tottenham to Luton) with 17 goals is the best scoring run during ETH's tenure. It had been bested several times by Jose (whose best 6 game scoring run saw 20 goals scored), and Ole (who holds the record with 21 goals scored in 6 games, which included the 9:0 win over Southampton, 4:0 vs Sociedad, and 3:1 vs Newcastle)

RV N has done very well in 'steadying the ship' and the experience will give him exposure with other clubs.
Wish him all the best in whatever he decides to do.

There can however only be one manager/coach at a club like United and Amorin is the choice and I wish him well also. With this appointment change is bound to happen, but how fast and how much it will improve performance, remains to be seen.

The fact that RVN has done so well, but that Amorin has his own team and is prepared to move him on, gives an insight into how the new manager will operate.

I'm sorry that he's leaving. The sentimental side of me would love him to stay on in some capacity but the logical side of me says that Ruben must be allowed to run the playing side however he sees fit, and with whomever he wants on his team. Good luck Ruud.

It was a nice morale boost to have him so clearly happy to be in charge for that short time, but I'm also glad we didn't force Amorim to keep him and that Amorim felt he didn't need him. Its completely different to Moyes booting out Fergie's highly successful staff to bring in his Everton mates.
