Ruud van Nistelrooy | Leaves United

I love Ruud, he’s a legend that gets it and has handled his short spell in charge with absolute class. I think he still has a bright future in store. But this is the correct decision when you analyse with head over heart. I don’t think it would have been right to have the spectre of Ruud behind Amorim would have caused unnecessary pressure from the off. Cheers legend, hoping for the best for his managerial career! Certainly looks the part!

You've summed it all up nicely.

Yep, exactly this.

Thank you, Ruud. You were absolutely class ( and you never know you could be back within a couple of years !!!)

Shame. It feels a bit like when Homer invited Flanders round to his kitchen, only to immediately send him home again.

Being asked to leave just 5 months into a 2 year contract will probably mean a serious payout.

Reputation enhanced he'll not be short of job options, probably should wait till the summer for the right club rather than catch a falling knife of a club in a relegation battle.

Delighted to see him steady the ship this month, but correct call all round.

Lobed Ruud as a player, and the lasflt few weeks he has done a fine job but IMHO this is absolutely the right decision. It Allows Amorin to be the boss, stops any chance of disgruntled players crying to RVN.
The new era begins.
We all lobe him.
But you have to let a new manager dictate his staff.

The right decision but you can’t help but admire Ruud. He looked right at home in the dugout, and, dare I say it had the presence and aura of a United manager for the short time he was in charge. It also seems he had the respect of the players from the word go.

In the future, who knows?

Full backing to Amorim now.

He always was a class act and he’s put himself right in the shop window with how he handled his brief spell in charge. I wish him nothing but great things - cheers RVN.

Good news, and completely the right decision from his and our perspective. If I heard the sentence "he knows the club" one more time I would have snapped.
It’s baffling. He left in 2006. Then came back for a few months in 2024.

He had a nice little interim stint which hopefully will boost his chances of landing a top job somewhere if that’s what he wants.

It’s was obvious, was never staying and did well in the interim but I’m glad, fresh start with new coaches who all know each other, we don’t have time for them and Ruud to get to know each others methods and for Ruud to take the spotlight over Ruben. I do hope he will be back someday but not for many years as I hope Ruben is the one to bring the good times back. Good to see all the other Dutch coaches gone, full clearout warranted

I think this is for the best. Ruben needs a clean slate with the squad. RVN should get a job with another PL club.

Disgraceful decision and entirely predictable. Keeping him hanging on is despicable. We treated De Gea abysmally and these tight fisted skinflints are producing more of the same to a club legend.
feck are you on about he was told literally on Amorim’s first day. Get a grip.

In the cold light of day, without any emotion, we know this is the right decision and in time prob Ruud would agree also.

He'll always be a legend at Utd, can't see anyone beating his goal ratio anytime soon, but if anything he's enhanced his reputation. Good luck and hope he finds a good job soon.

Gutted about Ruud leaving so quickly. He looked like a fan when he was in charge and I loved him as a player.

When they were bought in to help TH, Hake and Ruud, one outlet said 3 million euros salary. I presume that would be a yearly figure apiece. So if we say thats correct that would probably mean 9 million Euros, about £7.7 mill for the remainder of their contracts. The other coaches maybe were on a bit less, so its at least about £13 mill Ineos have paid out to get them to leave.

Leaving all the sentiment aside, this was probably the right decision.

What is in question is the wisdom of the decisions made in the summer.
1) Retained a manager who was clearly out of his depth, only to sack him 9 PL games in.
2) Overhauled the coaching staff as a display of support? to this manager, and ended up sacking all of them.
3) Spent additional money in the transfer market with atleast signings that could be traced back to this incompetent manager (De Ligt, Maz).

Seems like the strategy was to throw good money behind bad money and hope for the best.

I hope INEOS learns from this and saves the club some money in the future. Might seem inconsequential to some, but this money could have saved jobs of people that were let go to make the club ‘leaner’.

What a fecking legend! I do think this is the best way to go about it - a clean slate for Amorim to work with (not to be confused with the clean slate that certain underperforming players have taken advantage of in recent years). Thanks for everything Ruud!

Well on current evidence, both of those signings are looking quite astute. Do we know for sure that ETH was the driving force behind them (or any of the other 3 signings?)

Given he had a veto and somehow all of our signings were linked to him, I would say so.

I agree that the 2 players seem like good signings until now, but that’s besides the point.

Agree, and I think he needs one more stop to prove himself as a worthy big club manager. We actually don’t know much about his tactical or analytical skills as a manager.

Some weird take here. What do you expect? That Amorim will ditch his assistant and use Ruud for that role? Or that Ruud will accept some minor coach role?

They could have put him in charge of the U21's, the U21's arnt doing too well at the moment in Premier League 2 so he could have helped them turn their season around while also being involved in the graduation of players from the academy/U21 setup to the first team setup.

That's an insult. He was a full time manager who took a step back to be an assistant here. This will help his CV and he'll get a proper job. Best of luck to him, he did an amazing job as interim.

Why he would he accept that role?
