I can just see it now . . . with Ruud at the rudder, we'll be slicing through teams, unbeaten, scoring donkey loads, then Amorim will take over and we'll be shite again, Ten Hag phase 2. And we'll be stuck with him. The post Fergie curse. Fook!!!

Stone saying Sporting would have to notify the stock exchange, I thought they'd already done that?
Wasn't that one about us "expressing interest" or whatever?

Maybe they need to make another announcement with the final details when everything goes through.

I thought they'd told the stock exchange we'd triggered the release clause, I'm probably wrong and they need to inform them again of a managerial change.

they notified them of our intention to trigger the clause

idk what Stone is on about but maybe he means once they've signed off on the deal they need to be notified again?

I think that's what he's getting at.

I'm wondering if they had to do the same when he was in talks with West Ham.

Just a question, as I've not watched any Portugese football tbf...

What's different about this appointment vs ETH? Promising manager with a reputation for good football etc.

Is it the fact there's a structure in place now that wasn't before? Is he just a different type of coach?

Obviously it sounds an exciting appointment but can't help the fear we are doing this all again in 2 years time?

Be nice to feel that there are genuine reasons this will be different from people that know more about him than me, which is feck all.

One big difference between them could be their personality to bond and lead a group of players. By all accounts Amorim is very well liked amongst the players and they're highly motivated to play for him. We were warned by some Ajax fans ETH is an awkward guy with limited personal skills and this as well as going down a wrong path tactically is probably where he came up short. For 6-8 months I think ETH had the whole squad onboard, Martinez and Case were fighting like warriors, everyone was pumped but this fell away and never came back, they didn't down tools but weren't highly motivated or sold on what he wanted. Other issues with dealing Sancho/Rashford and others.

Put it this way, since you're a Porto fan. Imagine Santa Clara win the league 5 times in a row and Porto go through a bit of a bumpy ride. You bring a manager in that does well for you, do you think he'd leave to go to Santa Clara mid season ?

Yeah it's laughable.

Cristiano, one of the most egoistical players of all time didn't join City as soon as United came calling.... There are things money can't buy.
I get what your saying but if Santa Clara had unlimited funds from the Arabs and had won the champions league and challenged for the champions league every year and Porto barely fought for top 4 for 10 years I could see it.

Look at PSG, they were a nothing club, now they buy everything and have the most titles. Sure it leaves a bad taste in everybody’s mouth but players and managers seem not to care.

I get England it’s different, but still Liverpool in the 2000s didn’t have the same appeal they have now.

The Problem with the Ronaldo example is he would be warming the bench at City, he was not good enough. not even for United.

But let’s forget city, Real Madrid would have been a better example.

And the main point was Amorim’s character, he seems to chase money and glory, and that’s fine, most do. But he could have handled things differently.

But you mentioned doing well. Doing well is not qualifying for top 4 or winning an FA cup, doing well for United means he'd be challenging City for those trophies anyway. Fighting for top 4 and winning an FA cup is not doing well. Since Fergie every manager has been fired for literally only fighting for top 4 and the occasional cup (FA/Europa). The majority of United fans wanted ETH gone despite him winning a cup final against the team that you're talking about (City).

I think maybe you misunderstood a lot of people in here, if Amorim comes in and gets us in a position that we can fight for top 4 this season he's done well (considering our start and everything that's happened), next season 'doing well' will be judged differently. Of course the eventual goal is to get back to where we belong (fighting for the major trophies).

I dare you to slip in a Caf-ism somewhere. Pick your poison, but the challenge is that you have to say something you'd only read on the Caf.

If you can find a relatively PG one I’ll try it. Maybe he prefers right footed penalty takers?

I think it was you guys misunderstood me when i said doing well.

If for you doing well is like Sir Alex’s time of course he wouldn’t leave if was winning premier leagues and champions league titles.

That goes without saying.

Nice one!

Curious at to how much work goes into a video like that one?

Suppose it would take me a lot longer considering I've never tried before and would have to acquire and learn how to use video editing software and the graphics you were putting up. I'm not trying to muscle in in your gig.

From base level I think I'd want to watch about 25 full Sporting matches, pausing it at least half the time to make notes so that I know I'm not seeing things that aren't really there. Also got to find those matches to begin with and make sure they're against a mix of strong and weak opponents, teams playing different formations.

That's go to be at least 75 hours, maybe as much as 100 or is that way too thorough? Then there's scripting, editing and a ton more.

If it is a totally unknown quantity, then with scouting software, data analysis, that can help reduce how much full matches you need to watch and also as I’ve been doing this for years in addition to coaching, you develop an eye for it which further reduces the amount of full games you need to watch.

I’d say 10-15 full matches in addition to software which covers clips from across seasons, various games etc is enough.

As for editing that is a whole other subject, and obviously been doing it for 4 years now so you get used to a few things and set out templates to ease the workflow.

Thanks for answering mate, really appreciate the insights!

Garna £100m no, £120m just about.... problem is with money other teams will just up their prices when you come to buy, happens to us at the best of times, but if we had just banked £100m+ you know it would be even worse... it is not just the money either it is about keeping the best talent, we should only sell players we don't want or who are desperate to get away
Yeah, we would need to be very careful how we spend big money if anybody ever offers it to us for any of our players.

We do, however, strongly disagree in our assessment of Garna's talent. He is good, but not Ronaldo good. If anybody offers us a penny over £90, I would sell him in a heartbeat

Only if we were guaranteed a good winger & Gyokeres as a result. Currently, Garnacho and Casemiro are basically the only consistent goal threats in our team
They are... only because we are dealing with a horribly trained, "moments FC" team. We can't win anything with such team anyway, and if we ever have a properly trained, consistent team, reliance on Garna will be much less.

The question you need to ask is - would Garna be a guaranteed starter at City, Liverpool, or Arsenal, competing with and above their left wingers? I think not

Yes let's go back to being Vibes FC again like we were under Ole, that's totally sustainable.
