NFL 2024 | Let's Football

This is pretty interesting. Looks like some DBs and LBs might end up kicking on kick offs.

But I have often wondered how gridiron football went the specialist route for kickers and punters when it would seem far more interesting if position players could also kick and punt, ala rugby, and also not required to use a roster spot on a player with like 5% or less involvement in a game. Imagine not the kicker lining up to kick a GWFG but the star WR, or the QB, or the MLB. It would probably change how offenses scheme and probably see more fourth down attempts, possibly drive up scoring.

If the Super Bowl was in London it would probably be more affordable for genuine US based fans of the teams competing in it.

I love it. When we had Broncos season tickets (during their 1998/1999 run), we were told that they only had ~5,000 tickets to distribute to season ticket holders for the Superbowl. Englsh fans complain about access to the FA Cup final tickets. They have nothing on American corporate greed.
They could hold the Superbowl in Antarctica and I wouldn't care. I have been to the Stanley Cup finals and World Series but know I will never go to a Superbowl.

Micah Parsons was waxing poetically about accountability a couple months back. And yet he's working out on his own and not attending OTAs.

I get wanting more money and this is normal for star players seeking new contracts, but to bloviate about culture change and accountability then not show up when 98% of the squad does looks weak and self-centered.

“We need to have way more accountability,” Parsons said. “I just think we let things slide too often because we know we’re good. That’s all about me. I want to change the culture. I want to change the identity of what the Cowboys are. Cut the extra stuff out, I just want people to lock in for 22 weeks. Seven months can change your life. And I’m ready.”

Lamar Jackson's also been skipping OTAs (wtf?) whilst Mahomes has been working out with his receivers since mid March.

Any reports on how he’s doing with Worthy?
Apparently Rashee Rice is giving him driving lessons and Butker gave his girlfriend a toastie maker as a welcome to Kansas City present.

Worthy's been sitting out OTAs for the last week with hamstring issues. He's been dogged by them it seems since he started training with Mahomes back after he was drafted.

Jettas gets PAID!!
Jettas has signed a 4-year, $140m deal with A HUNDRED AND TEN MILLION GUARANTEED

Best WR in the game gets paid. Highest paid non-QB player in NFL history now.

Including an 88,7m signing bonus. I'm curious to see how it's going to be structured the Vikings were supposed to have lots of money next year which opens the door to making that contract fairly cheap after year 1.

It's an opportunity to share this.

Just read something interesting: there have been two top-10 QBs who (almost) entirely sat out their rookie seasons: Pat Mahomes and Philip Rivers. If you extend it to the entire first round (or top 32 selections), you can add Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees and Jordan Love to that list. Also guys like Paxton Lynch and a few other busts, unfortunately, but the hits are quite the household names if you look at it like that. All that to say that it's not the end of the world for Penix Jr. if he sits out his rookie season or even his second (and third) season in the league behind Cousins. Would be awesome for the young skills players in that offense if they can go from a few years of Kirk to another legit QB, much like what happened in Green Bay last season.

The best ever, certainly on the interior OL. Unless it's occurred in the past 10-20 years, only Allen and Bruce Matthews made AP and PB selection at three OL positions; Allen did so at LT, LG, RG. Allen also made the all-rookie team at RT in 94 after Erik Williams derailed his potential HOF trajectory when choosing to drunk drive and crash into a bridge. Big E did return in 95 and made a few PBs thereafter but was never the dominant force he had displayed from 93 into mid-season 94.

Good point. Jackson strikes me as a weird dude anyway. Seems to be incredibly full of himself and doesn't really look like he's willing to walk the extra mile to maximize his talent.

Yep. He is a bit of an odd duck.

Wut? That’s not at all how he comes across to me. A bit goofy, sure, but he’s humble, loves his teammates and is always working out if you look at his social media stories.

CMC gets PAID!!!
CMC signs a 2-year extension averaging NINETEEN MILLION per year. That’s not even an RB contract anymore
