Rumours that we are looking to offload Mount this summer and are touting him around to other clubs ….on what planet do we think we can offload someone who has been injured for 2 years and is on £250k a week?

Another fruitless exercise of hope…..

Well, it's better to look for options instead of doing nothing, is it not?

How does it work with cancelling/terminating contracts? He's made 22 league appearances in 2 seasons. There's no way we're getting what we paid for. Not even close.

I do think we’re right to start the process of trying to bin him off. You’re right though, no club is signing him permanently at this time - miles too big of a risk for them so I can only see a subsidised loan to start and keep our fingers crossed it goes well. Same with Shaw too.

It’s a crying shame football contracts don’t have clauses for releasing players if they aren’t fit enough for x amount of games. I’m sure not many clubs would take the loss of the transfer but it might encourage players to take better care of themselves and push for fitness.

What can we do instead?

No club in their right mind is going to pay any transfer fee in all honesty.

Well Martial hasn't missed a single game since leaving us after being a whole season out.. maybe there's hope for Mason, just elsewhere.

Even if by some miracle we do get rid, it will be another colossal loss

We've no chance of permanently getting rid of Mount this summer.

The only club stupid enough to buy a flop on huge wages who's been injured for the vast majority of the last 3 years is us and we're the ones trying to sell him.

Maybe he'll go out on loan but I fear we're stuck with him until whenever his contract ends. He's one of the all time disaster signings.

Good player, just feel we bought someone to keep Shaw company for the next few years and paying him a lot. About 400k a week between them or 20m a year. Ouch. Wouldn't need to sell garnacho if that was not the case.

Better than doing nowt.

God, you just can't please some people.

Are you serious? When do contracts ever get cancelled? Also would you like it if your contract got cancelled because of medical reasons? Many countries have laws against that.

A contract is a contract.

Honestly can't believe we spent so much on him and gave him the number 7 shirt, I think it was clear from that point that Ten Hag had no clue if this was going to be his talisman. What an odd signing at such an inflated price. I really hoped that he would prove me wrong and be a great contributor but he has been a complete waste. I feel sorry for him and his injury troubles but he has been a horrible signing. He never struck me as anything above a good squad player level (at least for the level we aspire to be back at) - I sincerely hope that he can get over these injuries and become a decent squad player but he is someone I often forget plays for us and, similarly to Luke Shaw, should absolutely not factor into any reliable plans.

I rate Mount as a player but he is another crock. £60m with one year on his deal while Chelsea used that money to buy United supporter Palmer and still had £20m change. I have given up hope on Mount shaking off his injuries and becoming an important player for United. I would probably sell him this summer for a cheeseburger and chips.

Honestly I'd rate this as a worse transfer than Antony. At least that was a position of need and played a bit for us. Between him being out of contact soon with Chelsea, funding a rivals purchase, playing a position that we had no need for, and rarely playing for us think mount takes the cake

He unfortunately is a worse transfer than Antony.

I do recall few on here saying Liverpool wanted him so we have to act.

Wonder how it would've panned out if Mount did move to Pool if it was ever true, would he have set them back a little bit?

For all his faults (and there are many) Antony has goals against Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City, and Barcelona. At least there's been moments. I struggle to think of one positive moment Mount has delivered on the pitch. Just a brutal transfer.

Didn't really remember too many clamoring for us to sign mount. I personally thought it was stupid but just figured they wanted to play mount deeper or something in a different role, which turned out to be not true.

If he was on a free transfer for a club, realistically how much would they pay him? His salary would be contingent on being fit, I'm not sure we could get rid of him if we offered to cover 60% of his current salary

Not wrong for the club to explore avenues to offload him; seriously doubt we'll be able to move him on.

Mount is under contract until 2028 and reportedly picking up £250k per week. No club is going to go near that for an injury prone player.

Eventually, he'll be fit enough to play a few games. There will be an interview where he says there's 'much more to come' from him. Then he'll get injured again.

Terrible transfer which in itself made little sense compounded by the ridiculous fee and wages.

This was another colossal feck up from Ten Hag and Management that allowed him to sign him despite having Bruno in his best position. What baffles me is that we had this wonderful idea of playing Mount and Bruno as 10's and then Casemiro behind him, when everyone here were confused about being defensively we would be too weak and it was the same case, where it was acres and acres of space we left for opposition. I would say it was lucky for Ten Hag that he remained injured for considerable period and Maino played in that position, which allowed us to look remotely like a decent team, otherwise we would be even shittier last season.

A contract is a contract.

Many players get their contract terminated (especially by mutual consent) probably more often than you think. Marcelo literally had his contract terminated by mutual consent 2 months ago. Pretty sure Jordan Henderson did the same in Saudi. Think Mesut Ozil is another who did the same in Turkey.

What do we do if we're in the exact same position with this player in a year's time? He's not playing, we can't sell him, we can't loan him, and so we're stuck with a player who is getting paid to do nothing. Something eventually has to change.

It would require mutual consent.

Mount will never agree due to the scale of the contract and the uncertainty over his future. He’d be effectively giving away 30+ million.

Oh aye, there's no incentive on Mount's part to do anything at all. He's been given a ridiculous contract to do nothing and can just happily sit back until it runs out. I honestly think we'll see a similar pattern with him as we have with Luke Shaw, where he'll be out for long periods, come back into the squad and put a few decent-ish performances together before another lengthy absence.

Yep, you could make a compilation video of nice Antony moments here and although it would be short you could at least make one. Like you said, goals against big rivals, he scored a couple of screamers in his first season including one against Betis ironically. Overall he's been a disaster of course but there has been the odd highlight.

You couldn't make a compilation video of good Mount moments. He's been 18 months and done fecking nothing, scored 1 goal in that time. He doesn't even feel like a Utd player he's done so little.

He is finished, be kinder to pay him his remaining contract and let him leave than having him play a game after months out injured only for him to pull up either the game back or next.

Pity insurance doesn't cover salary somehow.. United's premium would be insane after Jones, Shaw, Martial....

On top of that we strenghtened a (potential) rival. With Antony at least the means went into dutch league.
