At the euros I thought he was. Certainly better than Rice. In fairness it's a low bar
Rice is the best #6 in the world. What exactly are you on about?

No, he isn't.Rice is the best #6 in the world.
No, he isn't.
So is it a worryingly poor debut or not then? You seem confused.37 passes, 6 fouls and 1 successful tackle for a Manchester United midfielder against League 1 opposition? If that’s a standard you think is good enough then you must have really enjoyed the past the decade of irrelevance.
In the real world, he’ll need to do a lot better then that going forward. Hopefully that will start tomorrow at Palace.
Rodri, by a billion miles as well.Who is, then?

One of the weirdest things about this forum is peoples eagerness to stick the boot in on new signingsOh dear, oh dear.
Unless he very quickly learns the difference between a foul and a tackle he is going to be a real liability.
no Rodri is just absolutely better in every way.Rodri has the fraction of the defensive responsibilities of other defensive midfielders at other top clubs, Rice included. Has been basically playing as an #8 for City for more than 2 seasons now. He's one of the best #8s out there, potentially the best, but needs a lot of protection and defensive help. Defensively, Rice is easily better than Rodri. And probably a better ball carrier too, but going forward, Rodri is obviously in ahead of most other aspects.

Rodri, obviously. Rice doesn't even play as a 6 half the time.Who is, then?

Definitely not worryingly poor. He did a lot of things right but it was also clear that his timely on defensive challenges was off. I'd personally put it down to new league and a of preseaon. So is it a worryingly poor debut or not then? You seem confused.

Based on Casemiro's age curve it's 3 years. Case was 31 last season. So yeah, not too far off.Stop talking about Rodri he is 28. According to caf in 2 years he wont be able to run.
Mate they said that Maguire is better than Martinez defensively in another thread.Rodri made, on average, 7,21 ball recoveries per 90 min in the PL in 23/24. Declan Rice is at 4,97 in the same period of time.
On average Man City makes 45,6 recoveries per 90 min. In other words, Rodri makes 15,8 pst of team average. Arsenal makes 46,1 per 90 minutes. Rice, in other words, was at 10,8 pst of his team average.
The wannabehipster notion that Rodri is not a 6 is funny considering how often Rice was, in fact, not a 6 for Arsenal. The fact that Rodri is less responsible without the ball than Rice is just factually wrong.
Casemiro and Rodri are quite different midfielders, and basing it on Casemiro's curve is irrelevant. You could also say based on Carrick, Fernandinho or Busquets' curve, which are more likely to be Rodri's curve than Casemiro's, but it's impossible to predict either way.Based on Casemiro's age curve it's 3 years. I’m in agreement. Just curious why said poster said it was a worryingly poor debut, suggested it wasn’t, then again suggested it was.Definitely not worryingly poor. Rice didn't play as a #6 for Arsenal all that much last season either, to be fair.Rodri has the fraction of the defensive responsibilities of other defensive midfielders at other top clubs, Rice included. Rice isn’t even half the player Rodri is.Rice is the best #6 in the world. What exactly are you on about?
It's the same new age shite you get on X and social media in general. One of the weirdest things about this forum is peoples eagerness to stick the boot in on new signings
He is starting tonightPlease tell me he is starting tonight.
?
fecker...
Bit of a worrying cameo from him today. Got caught on the ball a couple of times and refused to pass forwards.
If you watch the game he passed forward of numerus occasions
He made 14 passes two for Bruno, the rest to our defenders. You could probably argue that four of 14 moved forward. But none really progressive.
The way I saw it was when he came on Palace stopped being a threat and that Ugarte was extremely reliable and efficient when he got the ball... Don't think he refused to pass forwards, I think it was a problem with our whole team in the 2nd half. Palace changed their press to load up the middle and we just didn't adapt to give proper options wide to get around it, so we couldn't pass through the middle.Bit of a worrying cameo from him today. It's who he is as a player, don't expect much forward passing. He excels at other thingsBit of a worrying cameo from him today. Got caught on the ball a couple of times and refused to pass forwards.

You think defenders step into the midfield for city to protect Rodri? You are lost. Rodri had the most ball recoveries in the premier league as an outfield player last season.This. It amuses me when he is described as the best holding midfield player in the world - he’s so inept in that role that City had to pull defenders into the midfield to compensate for and protect him, whereas Fernandinho used to do the job on his own.
As you rightly point out, he’s a more advanced midfielder these days and has risen to prominence as a result.
Aye! Have a go at the number 6 for not passing forward enough. Strange one.Bloody hell, the Caf never ceases to amaze me with some wild opinions.
