Kylian Mbappé | Player Performance Thread

The 2nd youngest French scorer (18 years and 2 moths) in the history of the Champions League, the 1st being Benzema (17 years and 11 months).

likes no. 7 idol is Ronaldo... does he want to start where Ronaldo became Ronaldo?

Thought he looked good but would go for Bakayoko before him, given that you already have Martial/Rashford.

Aren't you lot signing Griezmann to be the face of your club? Don't get this boards fascination with this kid. If he leaves it'll be for Madrid or Chelsea.

If I appreciate a young player, does it mean I automatically hope he will join United next summer? I don't think so.
What I saw from Mbappé though is very promising and I think he has it all to be an extremely successful player, can't imagine him joining us now as handling simultaneous development of three gems (Rashford, Martial, Mbappé - all being forwards with at times overlapping toolkit) could be tricky.

If you were Kylian though and scored another 10 goals this season, would you leave Monaco this summer? If so, which team would offer him most in terms of development? Can't imagine he would break into Madrid team that easily, (very) high risk high reward move. Would you go to Arsenal or Liverpool?

Unfortunately I think he'll end up at Bayern or Real but if I was him I'd stay at Monaco at least another season. He's just getting settled into playing first team football regularly in a system he suits.

Not specifically you but different posters who'd be pointless to mention.

I think you're the biggest club in England & could easily sign him in normal circumstances but with Griezmann reportedly on his way & the likes of Martial & Rashford playing in the same position it's not happening anymore.

You rate Bayern's chances ahead of Chelsea's? We have higher spending power, prestige, ready made starting position & a French speaking contingent (Hazard, Kante, Zouma, Musonda etc).

Spending power they have. Prestige you could argue, but I can imagine Mbappé, being Ronaldo fanboy, a young French being compared to Henry for a while now and presumably willing to play in Spain one day, could fancy Premier League better than Bundesliga.

They have a higher spending power certainly.

If anything Chelsea have the willingness. Munich can certainly match them in terms of wages and fees, if they want to. Just look at what they paid for Renato Sanches, who isn't that much older.

It's absolutely laughable to suggest you are a more prestigious club than Bayern Munich.

There's no reason why he should leave Monaco at this point in time. The Chelsea suggestion is fanciful at best.

He's different and more direct than Martial, like a faster, more agile Lukaku.

Just because there's a thread on him doesn't mean there's any remote chance of us signing him. This thread is in the football forum, not transfer and I made this topic in January 2016 because he looked like he had the potential to be a very good player.

There's lots of threads on other players on Redcafe if you look properly.

I never actually said that though. I just said we're a prestigious club & obviously we have more spending power.

The green smiley is about right when it comes to comparing prestige level between the two clubs.
Not really. Mbappe is only 18 not 38. He'd have spent his entire childhood seeing Chelsea as a superpower.

Only clubs bigger than Chelsea at the moment without question are United, Madrid & Barca. We're very much on the same tier as Bayern.

Bayern is bigger than Chelsea without question. Only a Chelsea fan will argue otherwise. If I use the term biggest football club as an all encompassing one I would put Bayern as a clear 4th on the list out on their own and Chelsea somewhere in the following pack. I think the only metric that Chelsea leads Bayern in is fanbase. Revenue, pedigree, success, stadium etc Bayern is ahead.

I had the chance to see this kid last summer in an semifinal of the Euro under 19 between France and Portugal, it was in July and when I heard he was at Monaco and knowing Jardim I said to someone who was watching that at the same age he has the same potential as Ronaldo and Henry had, completely destroyed our team, better than Martial.

You can argue we don't need Bakayoko because we've already got Pogba, who's similar in the sense that they're both attack-minded LCM who are strong but often switch off defensively. Difference is Mbappe has the potential to be the best player in the world.

Very impressive game from the lad. First time seeing him. Not sure where we would play him though he looked comfortable on the right.

Wasn't much impressed by our supposed targets though.

Looked great for 50 minutes and then tired out badly, but played with real maturity especially in the first half. Rarely wasted a pass and his finishing was good.

You're nowhere near Bayern by any metric except finance. I'd love to know how many Chelsea fans, let alone a broader audience, would argue otherwise.

Bayern have 3rd or 4th highest revenue. There isn't a metric where Chelsea are better than Bayern, none.

Agree. Bayern are a super club historically and currently.
That's the thing, we don't even need to talk about history: Bayern are recognised as one of The Big 3 who, up until this season's collapse from Barca, have been tearing Europe apart since our demise. They are a genuine, bona fide superpower. Chelsea's time as such, faded some time ago (not long after ours, actually).

Chelsea are no tier near Bayern.

I did say near, not better, and I think it's also safe to say that Chelsea are more likely to spend north of £70m on a player simply because Bayern don't have a need to do that.
