His three seasons at Dortmund have been decent, horrific, and amazing, with the last widely credited to a specific manager with a style very different from Mourinho's. He might have the worst career Champions League record I've ever seen for a highly rated attacking player (4 goals, 0 assists in 38 matches). He is a very good signing at the price because his ceiling is very high (as shown by last season) but you really don't know what you're going to get with him. I would have taken him at Arsenal in a second, considering both risk and reward. But he is an ultimate high-risk signing that could go either way and having reservations about banking on that kind of player seems perfectly normal.

You could say the same about sanchez at arsenal. Had a good first season and horrible second. Yet people would take Sanchez in an instant. Same with Matic

i think we would have offered 32m+8m add ons. That way its 40m in total but we pay only 32 now?

He is 27 and has been pretty good for Dortmund and for 26 million he is pretty cheap.

I fail to see any issues with this deal.
As i get to understand the Game FM more and more , i slowly start to understand the "rationale" being used by some of the posters and why a 27 year old with one year left on his contract is a bad deal at 30 million pounds in their heads. Life isnt a video game, its a great deal

My only issue with this is that we're overloaded with okay AMs and feel we need a couple of players with genuine pace to burn.

So hopefully we let one or even a few of Fellaini, Mata and co, go.

That aside, it would be a fantastic signing and great value for money.

I keep oscillating on him, one day I'm tremendously excited and the next I'm nervous! Today it's excited :).
Lol, I would be happy signing him of course, it's just that I don't expect him to transform our RW. If he does, then fantastic. I just wish these Pre-season friendlies would start soon so that I can watch Ibra, Bailly and Mkhi strutting about.

He has good acceleration and his technique allows him to dribble at pace but I think you'll be disappointed when you actually see him play if you expect him to be faster than Martial, Valencia, Rashford even Smalling would be faster in full stride. Raw pace isn't everything though, acceleration and repeat sprint ability like Hazard or Ronaldinho is what beats players more often than a Bale style medium/long distance sprint at 100% effort.
Yeah i meant that he has great acceleration.... usually the more important part anyway, especially on the wing. Also forgot about rashford but anyway, point is he is really quick off the mark and really good at running with the ball which we needed.

So, to my original point, how does that mean Mkhitarayan wasn't having a decent season in his debut year? He got decent stats but was expected to do better given his transfer fee & incredible stats for Shakhtar.

Not necessarily, you can't say that in his first season at Dortmund Micky was expected to perform on a similar level to Mata or better than Mata, in comparison to what Mata has been able to achieve in (no disrespect to Shakhtar) better teams and better leagues?
Therefore Micky having a great first season at Dortmund (all things considered), and Mata having a 'could do better' season in comparison to his previous ones, is pretty rational imo.

Mata played under LVG, and with that in mind, he created more than Firminho and Martial (hate to double post but I'm currently also discussing this in the Mata thread).

If he had a decent ish season, then Micky under Klopp had a decent first season for Dortmund, debut year or not.

We are arguing a silly point - what is decent and what isn't. But I do enjoy comparing this target to Mata given they'll be in direct competition for places next year should Mata stay.

It just keeps increasing. Soon it'll be 50m + Martial like Slig wants.

Never said that. I quotet a post from another forum to sum up that the majority of BVB-fans argue that United has to pay a lot for him. And it was quotet "50 mio or Martial", not so serious more a joke.

Mods maybe you can thread mark this post so people don't keep asking/get the wrong info.
Hen-reek Muh-khi-tar-yawn. @Damien

Can we not just refer to him is Micki? It's simple to remember and far less tounge tying than the alternative.

We are but simple beings here on the CAF afterall.

Iam really interested in how is is used by Mourinho and he plays under Mourinho, especially with this pressure to instant deliver (for the team as a whole, too of course).

It's a political game now. The deal is done, he will be presented on of the the first days in July, probabaly together with Zlatan.

German media will report the fee including adds and the British media will in some cases report the fee we pay up front. Over to the Pogba thread now, I'm greedy....

Pronunciation video from a newbie:

No no I was just joking aswell. I said so a few weeks back to you that the fee will likely rise to 40m euros if it were to happen.

The British media will quote the fee using a £ rather than a € sign, thus making him £42.5M.

Exciting times, buzzing over this transfer. Think he could be our best transfer this summer if he hits the ground running. Even if he doesnt, i expect him to be a good player for us in the coming years. But if everything clicks for us and Mourinho gets the team rolling, Sky is the limit for him, not just for Gary.

;)

It was clear from the beginning: Watzke claimed it wont happen and there has to be a fee like that one from Hummels, and so it will be i think. A pity for us, loosing him just as he begins to play like everybody wants to see. I really adore his skills. But on the other side we -as the BVB- have to discuss the dissapointments he made in the last weeks. It was like in that article: Didnt take resposibilty in the penalties while our defenders, who never shoot one, have to step up and shot them, was hard to see. Tuchel was disappointed, we all were, dispite loving him for the great season he gave us. Then the storys and the behavoiur of Rantiola comes out, and doesnt fit to the picture we made of him for ourselfs: an intelligent, humble, sensitive player who would be thankful and aware of the situation that finaly he found a coach who gets everything out of him. That surprised everyone, in a bad way. Thatswhy the majority is now glad to see that we get a record fee again and can use it to (re)build up our squad ,for the first time with Tuchel in charge.

why would we offer 42 million euros for a player in their last year of contract. Get your shit sorted Ed!

To wind-up hand-wringing transfer junkies who have nothing better to do than quibble over a few million of someone else's invisible currency.

Perhaps Mourinho wants to close the deal as soon as possible so Raiola could focus on another deal with haste.

You are clearly in bed with the powers. Sell out!!!

PS: And Woodward Out!

This transfer sum will just keep on rising just like Zlatans alleged salary until the ABUs are satisfied, isn't it?

Give it another month and we will be at £42,5m + bonuses and £15m for Raviola.

At least Woody seems to have learned not to keep shouting about how much money we have to spend this Summer.

We're always liable to pay a bit more based on our spending last few seasons, reporting the lower end of the figure to the press is kind of standard. What's an extra €10m-€12m to our money men in a game where Crystal Palace can bid €38m for a young player.

There is no need to be mad

Take your advice. Why exactly do you care?
