Should I allow Managers/Clubs to make transfer every summer or should I lock in the teams drafted fo

I'm still not sure that many seasons are even of much interest. Just run one properly with all the twists and turns.

Some players won't develop until later which screws the one season idea.

As for transfers he's duplicating the same club so we're all on a level playing field. The ai WILL sell players you don't want them to however it's just part of the fun.

I can see how it would be funny if someone builds a team around X and then the guy gets shipped off :lol:

Same with the development indeed. But then there's wanting a new challenge, moving to a bigger team... Even languages, the first season at least some of the teams will be the second coming of Babel not understanding each other, or the manager.

The way I see, from simming a bunch of saves in preparation just to get an idea, it should go at least 3-4 seasons to give all potential players proper development. I know I can maintain it, even with hefty updates until about Sept.1st. Then I have a month of business so basically my intention is to make this last last through summer in a fun way however many seasons that ends up being.

One thing just me for, I hate when video games go too long and make believe regen players are numerous. In normal modern saves thats about 3-4 seasons max for me but with classic I can envision 8-12 really good seasons before too much random Okturos Johnson from Beijing players become world stars.

You're thinking too deeply about this. Just draft the perfect squad you can envisage and watch them fly.

Yeah I get what you mean. I'd be OK with quarterly updates personally and maybe more frequent towards the business end of the season. Especially if that means more seasons can be done.

Part of the fun is going to be how you're team builds each season. If you're mid table or near the bottom halfway through the first season and know we're only running 1 season you will quickly become bored and uninterested.

Oh yes I should have mentioned that.

I am blocking transfers for everyone for the first season so season 1 will definitely just be the drafted sides with no changes.

All the classic players are aged relatively based on their era of playing.

So Messi starts as 18 year old.

Maradona 19 year old.

Pele 21 year old.

Jose Nasazzi 26.

They are extremely good even at just 18 but the younger ones will need a few years of in-game simulation to reach their actual peak.

If I sim the game for 8 years for instance that season would have Pele at 29 years old, Nasazzi at 34 years old and Messi at 26.

Practically speaking at the start of the game some of the early 20th century players like Bican will be more in their peak while Maradona and Messi will be 18-19 year old prodigies.

No, the list is full now at 20 teams.

People have been joining as AMs though and I imagine with the full squad 25 player drafting a few more people would appreciate an AM.

Yes standard 8 hours like normal drafts.

If @simonhch doesn't make it in time then Skizzo can pick and Simon can make his pick whenever he comes online.

Yes

@simonhch when you get online you can make your pick at any time for manager.

If you aren't used to drafts I apologize for not explaining this more but we usually do 8 hours for a pick from the time the last manager posted. If you can't make it you can always leave some options with me or someone else at the opposite end of the draft order.

I don't think the manager is going to make much difference. Quality wise all the top managers have superb stats so its really more about personality of the manager and play style.

What's the rationale behind the ages (above)? How are they worked out?

I wondered if it was the rough start of their top flight career but it has 21 for Pele and he'd won a WC Winners medal 4 years before that?

Ages are based on roughly when they played. Modern players are youngest, players who were playing the longest ago are oldest in the game.

The guy that made the database started it (with FM 2015 I think) with the original premise of each decade would be 1 year in game as a way to sort of simulated the generations.

So for instance 1990s would be 17 year olds, 1980s = 18 years, 1970s = 19 year olds, etc.

But it seems to have evolved a little bit and he seems to have tweaked some of the ages. Not sure what his guiding logic was but the general principle is still = the older the player the more years are added on at the start.

From the sims I have done, the end result is that it allows a more dynamic evolution of the classic players over say 5-10 years of simulating as some will be better years 1-3 and some will peak years 7-10

It spreads out the dominance a little more over the years and keeps things a little more dynamic and somewhat realism-ish (for lack of better word). If all 2700 players from every era started at 18 years old I can see the simulation become more static and less fun without the evolution of storylines that exists with this spread of classic ages
