F1 2021 Season

You got to let all of them pass and unlap themselves, not 5 of them. What do people not get?

I think this part is pretty inconsequential and not exactly clear that they all have to unlap based on the wording
What to me Is pretty clear and wasn't followed was when the safety car came in. By the letter or the law there should have been an extra lap for the safety car to go to round right after Cars overtake the safety car.

That would have seen race end under safety car. Masi decided he had the power to over rule that procedure and immediately signaled safety car in this lap as soon as the 5 cars went round. I think that is where Mercedes have a case that they were fecked by what seems to be a rogue decision by the race director to have a race finish on green no matter what

Bickering aside. Could Lewis have done better in that final lap? Verstappen Overtook him like he was Mazepin. Sure he had older tires, but still..

you’re forgetting that max is just way superior to lewis. even if their tyres were reversed max would have got him by turn 8.

Yes he could as proven by Perez. But Max surprised him with late dive in the inside, similar than what happened at the start of the race.

To the title yeah. Not to sport though. This move basically meant Sainz did not have an equal shot at racing. To me that’s a breach of a fundamental concept of sport.

I think the wording 'any car' is pretty clear...

Regardless, i think Masi will get away with this since Mercedes are probably dropping the appeal so I'm done with following this sport live. Its a shit sport to get too invested in.

Good time to go back to becoming a casual follower and get my weekends back

Will catch any good crashes on youtube highlights.

I see your point on this, an while I agree, I still have an issue with not all cars being able to unlap. Why should Sainz be able to compete for the win if they wanted a proper one lap race?

What Masi did was change the rules in such a way it guaranteed Max the victory. At the point the decision was made the race was over and everything thereafter was effectively for drama value. I think Mercedes a really strong case but it would have to go to CAS because the FIA will not rat themselves out. An then even if they do win, I don't see the race result being overturned, they certainly won't base positions off lap 57 as that wouldn't be fair to the rest of the grid.

Masi really did screw up massively. All he had to do was either end the race with the safety care or restart without anyone unlapping (which would have still given Max an advantage compared to the safety care not coming out). I can't believe more hasn't been said about RB lobbying "we just need one racing lap" while Masi was making the decision, seems like such bad sportsmanship.

Personally, I would just be embarrassed to claim that I'd won that race if I were Verstappen.
However you want to argue the case, the fact is, he'd been totally dominated by Hamilton the entire race, couldn't get anywhere near him, and was almost 12 seconds adrift.
Due to a technical decision by the officials, he is gifted the decision.
For me, that's completely hollow, and absolutely no way to "win" any sporting contest.

But. They were singing We Are The Champions...

I wonder if they could argue to null and void the laps during and after the lapped cars were allowed to pass. Race ends on what? Lap 55/56? But yeah it's going to be really hard case.

But whoever is the champ really pales in comparison to Masi's future in the sport. The CAS or FIA need to be seen to be strong with him. They cannot back him blindly. I think they can say that a 'deliberate misinterpretation' of the regulations is not, and should not, be in the spirit of the sport
True but can he be the only problem? Who are Liberty who run the F1 now? What are their interests? Are they trying to influence the outcome to increase the value of their asset?

I feel like you don’t quite understand the difference the tyres make. They were not only brand new, but 2 steps softer also.

Max could brake, accelerate and take corners far faster due to them warming up quicker also.

It’s like putting a ford fiesta against a ferrari.

Ok fair enough if you put it like this. I feel my nationality is working against me in this thread when asking this, but I was genuinely interested. I know feck all about F1. I watched it a bit when Schumacher always won and remember Jos Verstappen always crashed.

Your posts have been a joke on this thread. I get it you're Dutch and completely biased, but still, your posts make me think you faked your age and are 8, not 18...

LH on hard tires for 40+ laps and the chosen one on fresh softs for 4 laps and placed behind the leader after dodgy decisions. Lewis stood no chance on that final lap.

As an Englishman who lived in Holland for 10 years, I have a huge Dutch appreciation as my one of my best friends is Dutch, love the culture and everything.

You....Nah

To be honest I'm really only in this thread to get potential updates on Michael Masi.

If I'm to continue watching next year and believe in it, I need to know he is absolutely gone and disgraced.

Could not agree with you more.
His statement that... this is motor/car racing.
No it was not.
The disgraceful conclusion yesterday was nothing to do with racing. Nothing at all.
It was everything to do with manipulating the so called race to ensure the desired outcome.
And having watched motor racing since the days of Jackie Stewart and before, if I thought that this collusion was going to continue, then I am done with F1.

Mate, I think you got the wrong Dutchie

No, the fact he was still within a shout going into turn 9 on tyres which were 44 laps old compared to Verstappen's 5 laps old softs (4 of which were behind the SC) is staggering really. Mercedes had everything dialled up as well.

Haha wtf is this? Dude chill... He mentioned mulitple times in mulitple threads he isnt a massive F1 follower and is just getting into it. Such a response... Doesnt get more sour than this does it?

I had similar issues on here :wenger:

Ouch, I think you kind of misread my post as being cnutish, I was honestly interested since I know feck all about F1 and didn't know the difference between those tires make that much of a difference. And I think quite many of my posts in this thread are me complaining about the Verstappen love-in in our country, because I think he's a twat.

Where did you read my age is 18 by the way? Don't tell my wife :nervous:

I've never understood interest in this sport, but I guess the us v them, Lewis v Max rivalry made for people to get really heavily invested.

What struck me from afar is how much of it is just chatter about how the rules are handled, or uncertainty over what they even are. This Netflix commissioned series probably has something to do with it - generating talking points and 'extraordinary' moments.

Glad I've never been a fan or invested in the sport, not about to start either.

Watch out dutchies, they're coming for you.

Why did Hamilton take the corner so wide here? Can anyone explain? Is that a rule or something? Or did he just not expect Verstappen to dive in there?

Yup max took pole with softs .400 ahead of Lewis on mediums which were newish. So on hards that were 40 laps old the gap must be ridiculous

Wrong Dutchie dude. The rest are arrogant twats, but Kirk is golden!

Probably thought Max was too far back and wouldn't make the lunge there.

He took that line to get the best possible traction.

All "Michael" had to do was immediately send all lapped cars around Lewis immediately after the yellow came out and we would of had the same result without the controversy.

Feck I just realize I should have engaged head on to take a shot at E fight of the year :(

He couldn't do that because those unlapping aren't behind the safety car at that point. Which would have made the safety car to clear the wreck pointless.

He basically had 2 options, letting no one unlap and having a dodgy safety car exit or letting everyone unlap and have the race finish at the end of that unlapping process. He decided neither was satisfactory so made something up.

Nope. He can’t do that because a) the damage wasn’t cleared so it’s unsafe (standard practice) and b) one of the key points of the safety car is to bunch up the field to allow maximum time for the truck and marshals to get on the track and remove the car without F1 cars being nearby.

What got lost in this madness is what an incredible job Mercedes did with the car in the second half of the season. With everything on the line they produced a car which blew RB away and Hamilton was actually managing laps as fast as the RB with fresh hard tires at the end . It took some of the most incredible amount of bad luck plus Masi madness for them to not win

The right answer was probably a red flag and restart. And a sprint to the end.

According to some in here the Red Bull had the faster car on all but a few tracks.

The pace that the Merc had with medium or hard tyres on was unmatchable from Silverstone onwards, especially with higher fuel loads.

There is one thing we Dutch people love more than Max Verstappen. According to Google the most searched for query in The Netherlands during the last gp was "Max Verstappen girlfriend".
