Well trophyless the first 2 seasons and a 8th and a 4th PL place so same PL standings just opposite seasons for the 8th place.

ETH have won 2 trophies for what it is worth, so something he is doing works.

2015-16
Klopp took over and led the club to two finals, losing the League Cup to Manchester City and the Europa League to Sevilla. Liverpool finished eighth in the Premier League.

2016-17
Some big-time transfer hits for Klopp in the summer, as Sadio Mane, Joel Matip, and Georginio Wijnaldum arrive along with Loris Karius and Ragnar Klavan. Klopp’s first full season does not include another final but the Reds finished fourth place in the Premier League to secure a return to the Champions League

ETH is a nonsense of a manager. Did you note all those top teams, Barca, Bayern, Juventus, Liverpool, Chelsea... all have changed managers and not one, not one would even consider Erik Ten Hag.

Bayern Munich preferred Vincent Kompany.

And yet we still, still have some fans who think this is a good decision.

We deserve everything we get next season. And that will not be much.

I'll give INEOOS the benefit of the doubt. They strike me as ruthless when they need to be. The excuses came with the FA Cup, if we start poorly, I don't see where the support will come from?

Haha yeh, like I thought it was best that he'd be sacked but I'm not gonna meltdown like a big baby just because he's staying! It's obvious the right candidate to replace him wasn't out there so this was the best thing to do.

Better than hiring a new coach that isn't suited at all to the way we want to play going forward.
 
Still can't help but feel this is but a smokescreen, and Qatar will soon put a massive bid in and hire Southgate to rebuild Old Trafford using Lego and enforced migrant labour.

Thing is, it’s his 3rd year now. He doesn’t get to just go back to pragmatically scraping results, he burned that bridge when he refused to do so after our defensive injury crisis and him justifying us getting constantly battered for the sake of “progress”. We HAVE to play much better football both in and out of possession this next season. The excuses are gone (I’m not saying we have to get 3rd or win trophies, but another season of shit GD and poor performances and he needs to be sacked regardless of if we scrape a cup or something).
 
By beating Man City in the fa cup final, ETH has done well enough to remain in the squad till the first half of next season.

Of course, his team still has to perform at a decent enough level for him to continue on for the rest of the season but ETH has done well in the Fa cup no doubt.
 
We've been dire since February 2023, this isn't something to be giddy about. Could be another wasted season. Hope I'm wrong.

If you're a football club and are already at the point of talking to other managers when somebody else occupies that position, it tells you everything you need to know. Talking to other managers is an admission that the current manager isn't up to scratch.

The fact that they've miscalculated what to do with the replacement and subsequently backtracked doesn't change that.

Please stop mentioning Klopp. It was obvious he was coaching that crap side at a high level within a couple months, and they were brilliant to watch even if overmatched personnel wise. A couple of cup losses doesn’t change that (just like Ten Hag winning a cup doesn’t change us being pretty terrible all year).
 
I would rather have had a new manager but one thing that keeps me interested is accountability

Next season the team can't hide behind injury, schedule or fixture congestion excuses, they and the manager has to deliver

It's beneficial when the impetus is on everyone to perform, and the media (negatively) will be on the managers back if there's a loss of results or poor performances so hopefully the pressure alone inspires motivation.

The excuses already feel pre-made, honestly. We haven’t moved anyone on yet and I anticipate it will be quite limited in both outgoings and incomings. That alone will be enough strength for his fanbase.

This geezer coached our worst place finish, most losses, most goals conceded, and worst goal difference and he’s still breathing. With a contract extension in the back pocket.

I’ve never met such a jammy manager.

This is a unique case where there's a complete new ownership conducting a review. It's quite rare. However my point isn't ten hag was never on the ropes. It's that it's perfectly feasible they spoke to others and preferred what they had.

Which is why Simon Jordan chatted absolute bollocks.

So if they take on board that a big part of the explanation for our poor season is injuries, by extension they take on board that those players missing were crucial to the manager's tactical plans and the ones available are not suitable for said plans.

There are some players whose character I like and they've proved useful in a very tactically limited way, like Maguire, but I hope we're not sentimental this summer and that ETH's vision aligns with the new hierarchy and vice versa. A high line, an aggressive high press, and players who are both technical and physically capable of sustaining this way of playing over a season.

Apart from thinking that none of the linked managers were anything exciting (bar McKenna), and apart from the feeling that the way the manager has been treated has been unacceptable really, I also worried that a new manager would be a stay of execution for the whole squad and they'd get in someone who'd tell them that the squad is amazing and he'll wave his magic wand and everyone will perform at the top level.

We know who is not suitable tactically. We know where we have zero depth. And we know who are difficult to rely on due to fitness issues. A lot of work to be done, but thankfully it can start now.
 
Absolutely terrible decision I reckon. If I was that shit at any of the jobs I've had, I'd have been sacked months ago. If we genuinely give him a new contract INEOS are genuinely getting off to the worst start they possibly could.
