Ironically, the fact that they did the review and it took as long as it did makes me feel they really took their time to investigate and come to the conclusion that he can be a good coach for us.
However, there aren't any excuses for Ten Haag regardless of what we do in the market.
The football we play has to be good this season from the very start. We cannot afford to waste another season.
INEOS have taken a massive gamble in keeping him, so they have to act as fast as possible if it doesn't seem to be working early. For me, this means as quickly as a sack in late September.

Ten Haag, regardless of who we buy, has the show that he can play football that produces chances and keeps us in control of games. No more ridiculous risks. His first season had spells of that type of football and for any support, he would have to show that United can dominate games consistently against teams as soon as preseason. He's starting with negative credit in the bank. He has to prove he's actually a good coach now.

My thoughts are that we are keeping him on due to belief in what he can offer in terms of the football side of things, based on his first season and his bringing through of some of our younger players. This decision means that they believe that he can coach, and they will remove the responsibilities on his plate regarding squad management and transfers. There are no excuses for him. I feel he played on the sentiment of our fans, which kept him his job. That wouldn't fly again...this time, if he doesn't step up, it would ruin his career. There won't be any "United didn't give him a chance" nonsense.

But there will be excuses. "Ten Hag never wanted that player!", "not enough have been moved on!" etc etc. Ultimately we had a shocking season and the excuses worked, so we as a club accept shite excuses. That's just where we are right now.

Probably the right decision all things considered. There's a real dearth of quality managers available at the moment. Let's see how the first few months of next season goes with (hopefully) fewer injuries. If come December we see no change and Mckenna is tearing it up at Ipswich, then the decision becomes obvious.

Nah. Like I said previously, I believe he’s completely safe for all of next season and up until middle of the following one regardless of results. If things are very bad then they will revisit but if he survived last season the bar for the upcoming couple of years has to be very, very low or else it’s unfair.

I don't think they have. I think the process they used actually showed that they are putting a system in place. The problem is fans reading media dribble everyday from people forced to talk about the club with no sources. They would have been irresponsible not to plan for a replacement which is why they sounded out other managers. It taking this long only proves that they took a measured approach, analyzed the situation and came to a decision.

Honest to God, if he can just be as pragmatic as he was in the Cup final all season (as he was for most of his first season after the Brentford debacle) we'll finish fourth fairly easily. I just hope he can be trusted to do that and not revert to the psychotically open transition football that made everyone want to play us from the time Wolves ran through our midfield on day one of last season.

Glad it's finally resolved. Happy for ETH he can mug off the 'journalists' we have now, they deserve it. In the conditions of who is available it's the best choice to go one more year - the extension if there is one needs to be worded carefully but if he is confident of improvement that shouldn't be hard to achieve.
We need as fans to get behind him now, if we have one bad result and all the wailing and moaning starts again its going to be hell of a long bad year for everyone, so hopefully for once we are balanced about it*. Berrada and Ashworth need to get in asap, get the squad and other issues sorted and start getting the party started.

* who am I kidding. There will already be the crying and Ineos out the very first second we don't do something correctly in a game.

I think it would be fair if we start badly for it to go downhill. You don't back a bad thing. He will need to prove to fans that he's good enough to have us playing good football. He doesn't deserve a grace period. As a club, we're at the point where we can't afford to waste seasons, so if it means sacking him in September/October if we have a bad start then thats what we need to do.

I assume any new contract puts him as "Head Coach" or similar, rather than "Manager" ... (as any external hire would've been)... He must've aced his interview because his body of work as "Manager" is not compelling.

It will be a different dynamic next season, with the new structure. Nowhere to hide. I fear we'll be looking for a new Head Coach before long.
