It's a win win. A guy who deserves another season gets at least that, and the perennial whingers polluting this forum day after day don't get their own way.
I'd argue the posters in here don't actually represent the match going fanbase. I spent 3 days in London for cupfinal..never spoke to a single fan who wanted him gone.

The result for me means he deserved at least another year with finally a proper modern football team structure behind him, helping him, letting him coach the fecking team instead of being everyone .

He came from a similar structure to the shit we have had running the club in recent years.

Give him the help, tools and support he needs and he might surprise us all.

1. It's not Gareth fecking Southgate (who should have won the last two tournaments with england)
2. It's not touchel (will fall out with INEOs in 3 or 4 weeks)
The rest don't warrant a mention

I think he has the dressing room.
That's and support is all.he needs. Once he has the dressing room anything is possible. If they believe in him, he has the support from back room, anything is possible

How the standards have fallen. Long season ahead I feel. Pretty obvious this was happening a couple of days ago with the briefs on Sancho, Tuchel and Poch.

This club never learns.

The new structure being more inept than the previous one was not on my bingo card. Surviving 8th, negative goal difference and getting embarrassed by Galatasaray and Copenhagen  Would never happen under Woody and co.

450m wasted on garbage
8th placed finish
Negative goal difference after 38 games
Dead last in the CL group with 2 cannon fodder teams
Rushing players back and running them into the ground

Congrats to everyone who wanted this loser to stay. Enjoy the summer.

Couldn’t agree more, it’s like half the fan base have suddenly got amnesia.

Feck it , I’m along for the ride, I just hope we are wrong by some miracle

Means nothing. He'll be sacked at the first major bumpy patch once Southgate is freed up.
Nah. Like I said previously, I believe he’s completely safe for all of next season and up until middle of the following one regardless of results. If things are very bad then they will revisit but if he survived last season the bar for the upcoming couple of years has to be very, very low or else it’s unfair.

It's ok, we'll sack him in January and bring in the Manager they've wanted all along, Mr.Southgate.

The new structure isn’t even in place yet. This season was a write off anyway. Our recruitment team isn’t in place. Our CEO isn’t in place. Our director of football isn’t in place.

I do love me some of the tears from Erik hater extremist, I was fine either way, there was argument for both decisions, but the haters can only see one way and screech "excuses" constantly.

Bottled it. Terrible transfers, no style of play, 8th place and a minus goal difference, bottlejobed every game in Europe and all of it completely overlooked.
Agreed on all counts here but I just hope that the health of the squad miraculously turns around as so many seem to believe so that we can see what a fit side can do.

Given what was on show the few times the team was relatively healthy, I can't say I expect much of a difference but that's the only potential silver lining I can see here even though injuries are absolutely part of the game for everybody.

I also hope the club manage to be decisive in the market for a change and really address key needs for the club long term rather than wasting time in the summer trying to buy exactly who the manager wants.

Hope we get news of outgoings to wasn't his over soon too

Trophies is such a terrible argument for keeping a manager. League cup is a rubbish trophy and cup runs require an insane level of luck. Premier league is so strong at the top right now, even getting a CL spot would be an achievement for him next season

Honestly, what good is any of this if his tactics are not suited/good enough to succeed in this league?

Can't see him lasting until xmas this time
I can’t see what he could possibly do to get fired from here. Barring some ridiculous run where we look like we are genuinely threatened with relegation (obviously not going to happen) we are not going to regress much from last season.

I really hope that this footballing set up we’re putting in place will have a list of potential successors in place at any given time so that we don’t shelve our plans to sack a manager just because the review with Poch and Tuchel didn’t go so well.

Funnily enough, fair reason to argue that Arteta (let alone SAF) wouldn't have got the time he did had he not got a major trophy under his belt with the club early doors.

Looks like we are stuck with him then. Not the decision I wanted, hope I'm wrong.

Here's hoping for a much improved season.

He has enough credit in the bank with trophies each season but the jury is surely still out.
Let's hope we kick on now.

Confidently been behind the club sacking the manager since the new year.

Said if INEOS back the manager they will have to award him with a new contract.

It's the right decision from a sporting and directive perspective, you can't go into the new season and plan efficiently without the club having a strong consensus behind the manager.

However, being that it's approaching the third consecutive season in charge I think anything below top four and at least a semi-final in the Europa league should warrant the managers dismissal.

The team also need to play more successfully across the board from a tactical standpoint and the season after next (25/26) the team has to challenge as it's exactly what Ratcliffe highlighted in the time period within his interview a few months back.

Erik is on the cusp of being the most back manager for resources if the club spend 200m he would have spent half a billion, the club has to demand the league from him within a 24 month period.

If those are the conditions which are perfectly reasonable then INEOS have made the right decision because the impetus is on the manager to deliver, not a situation of fleeting expectations.

It's not really. Trophies are a huge part of the job. Not the only part and the others were why he nearly got the chop, but it's not a terrible argument, it's a fairly good one. That's what we're in the game to do, win stuff.

My sentiment as well. See you all for pre season.

I understand the logic of keeping him on, but I genuinely think this season will be the first in my life where I don't start with a renewed sense of optimism.

An absolutely shocking move. The club has gone. INEOS will just manage the brand. This decision is bad news for Manchester United as a football team.

Not a thing will change. ETH has proven to be an extremely limited coach.

They are keeping him because no one wants the job. What an utter, utter, utter shambles.

Erik Ten Hag. Unreal.

Guy has the most inexplicable level of juice I’ve ever seen. Fantasies of him walking out and being successful elsewhere when the reality is he finished 8th with United. A struggle 6th with Southgate would be an improvement.
  • lowest league position since 1989-90.
  • lost nine games at Old Trafford this term - their joint-most at home in a season.
  • conceded a club-record 58 goals in a Premier League season.
  • ended a league campaign with a negative goal difference for the first time since 1989-90

Yes...

I think every summer this is said without fail. Buy X, Y and Z and we'll see much improved football... And we never do.

X, Y AND Z guess who staying in?

Available players really wasn't the issue, we were so awful to watch because of the setup we were using.

The best coach that fits with the style Ineos want to implement going forward.

Sadly a bit longer it seems

Surgery as Rangnick described it circa early 2022 was major work to transform the squad. 10 players in and 10 out.

That's happened and more mate, as of now with the departures of Varane and Martial we've what 8 senior players left from the squad that finished the 2022 season.

As I said the surgery's done and it wasn't a success.

Few more stages?

Dream Team levels of fantasy. Just creating a storyline in your own head.

Rewind selector!

Exactly. I was going to accept both outcomes, and now it's time to enjoy the meltdown

I get your point but when else should this arbitrarily cutoff point to decide his future have been?

The FA cup final was a very significant game and the performance (regardless of the result) was very, very good.
It wasn't just a very good performance, but a well planned performance. The manager set the team up differently for the last two league games of the season, in preparation for the FA Cup final. He was lucky in the fact that these games were both against posession based teams, so provided a perfect chance to practice.
