The no alternative line is so funny, he was 100% getting sacked if we lost the final. This is basically the club throwing away another season. Well I hope there are alternatives available next summer

Anyone saying INEOS are just like Glazers this early just because of their decision to keep Ten Hag should take off their clown nose and stop being embarrassing.

Good decision, now let's prepare for the new season!

So Ten Hag is staying...for now.
But as a fan going back to the Tommy Doc days this all smacks of utter desperation. It is known that talks have been held to sound out alternatives. Thomas Tuchel, being one, rejected the club. And no attempt to quash speculation over Ten Hag's future, not even the dreaded vote of confidence, has been attempted till now.

This looks like the act of a club with nowhere to go in succession and now what of transfers. I won't hold my breath when we are strongly linked with a yet another underwhelming Dutch connection player in Joshua Zirkzee.

The question is...will Ten Hag even have the desire for the job even if he wants to continue. Or are both sides waiting till his contract expires at the end of the coming season, with on the club side, no compensation to pay.

My hope above all else is that somehow we can start looking forward and upwards. But this all feels so wrong.

United fans are dumber than Liverpool's. No fanbase is so naive. Ten Hag will never win anything of notice at the club (or in another club for that matter). Next season is pretty much a write-off. And I had such hopes for Ineos.

Congrats to everyone who wanted this loser to stay. Enjoy the summer.

Good news, people can stop making a drama of the silence. I think from the moment we won the cup the speculation on the manager has been largely generated by journalists to create a story out of nothing.

They've made the correct decision imo, and if they give him the right players in the build up phase I believe he will get the team playing the way he wants the team to play which is to dominate the game in all phases of play.

You can't play that way if three of your most prominent ball players (Martinez, Shaw and Mainoo) are not available for a significant part of the season. Mainoo isn't someone that many people thought was going to feature much this season but it was clear to see that ten Hag was entrusting him to play a important role in the build up phase. You don't sign players like Onana, Martinez and also promote a youngster with the skilset of Mainoo to then ask them to play in transition. You only resort to playing in transition if the build up capabilities of your own team become weak against the threat of the opponent's high pressure tactics. And with the injuries United had at the start of the season, it was clear that our build up capabilities were weak against teams who were adept at applying a well coordinated press.

So ten Hag clearly adapted and looked to go direct with the press and counter press as a defensive mechanism high up the pitch. It didn't work effectively but for me it would've been cowardly to resort to type and sit back in a double pivot because that is a strategy that may help us get a few points in the short term but won't help us in the mid to long-term as far as implementing a proactive game style with and without the ball.

I'm not sure how the likes of Thomas Frank became options after what's been reported in the media about INEOS wanting to implement a possession based play-style. Frank and Brentford have been signing players for a direct high intensity pressing game with players with physicality in advanced areas. It's no surprise that Chelsea went with Maresca, because Maresca is a coach who wants to play out from the back and adheres to the positional play principles. And with Chelsea having spent huge amounts of money on players like Caicedo who was statistically one of the very best in the league at evading the press in the build up phase and also signing Enzo Fernandez who is a player that is very capable on the ball dropping deeper, it made zero sense to keep Pochettino or hire Frank.

Erik ten Hag is absolutely a coach who wants his team to dominate the game in all phases of play. Give him the players that are missing in midfield and at CB, and I believe we will see his vision come to the fore. If it doesn't then we can move on from him.
Yes if we give him another several hundred million pounds worth of players and he still keeps us mid table we can get rid of him

Fine with that by has come very late in the day. Let's see some quality recruitment and push for top four. No excuses.

There is literally no need to give him a new deal, he effectively has two years left currently without it.

It's obvious what the extension is for you could see it coming a mile away, I posted that it would happen in Feb if he stayed.
The extension is a misguided attempt of showing support to a manager they have openly undermined. A good way to double down on their own mistake and ensure the pay-off will be bigger when the inevitable happens.

Good news. Been Ten Hag out for much of the season but with all the changes around the club, stability in that sense is good for now, and you just can't sack a manager after he wins a major trophy. He did a lot of good, his fair share of bad too but it was a shit show of a situation so I'm looking forward to seeing what he does next season fresh.

By this logic there will never be an obvious replacement for ETH so we should stick with him forever. No the reality is at some point you need to start taking risks and look for exciting up and coming coaches.
I can't argue against hypotheical options. You just say "hire the exiting up and coming coaches". If we got linked with ANY of them, bar McKenna, we could have a conversation. I'm not saying take the easy option. I'm say, based on the options the fans knew about, I don't know what fans wanted after the most competent options were not actually options.

I'm not surprised, it seemed clear the longer this went on that this would be the outcome. I imagine they were spurred to put this out by the last few days and the speculation/reporting getting wilder.

Oh well. Best get on with it then. Better find a better way of playing next year, cause the football this season gone was shite.

Or they include break clauses based on performance metrics...

Luckiest man alive, survived because there’s no one else available that could arguably improve us. However I’ll get behind him again until he gives me reason not to. Let’s hope there have been some massive learnings this season otherwise it will be embarrassing come Christmas time.

I'm not, it just an indication to me
It's a poor indicator. Arsenal fans might be driving some of it and they were mostly Arteta out themselves 3 seasons ago.

Liverpool fans will always talk shit.

I really want to be proved wrong by ETH, but just can't see him being the guy after overseeing a season like last season. He won't get time this season for that many embarassments, that's for sure, he'll have to start strong or it'll be curtains very quickly.
We'd have to hope as part of him staying on he's been told to drop his bonkers no midfield tactics.

And maybe a positive way to look at it is, last season was so bad not only from a results perspective but even more so in terms of performances that it would be really difficult to not improve upon that.

Should have been sacked before the season ended and the FA cup win. Ridiculous from Ineos. They dont want him and dont believe in him anyway. It is just holding us back for more years and postponing the inevitable sacking.

Allright, over to you recruitment- the pressure is on. It is fairly obvious what we need, so get to it.

Glad it's finally resolved. Happy for ETH he can mug off the 'journalists' we have now, they deserve it. In the conditions of who is available it's the best choice to go one more year - the extension if there is one needs to be worded carefully but if he is confident of improvement that shouldn't be hard to achieve.
We need as fans to get behind him now, if we have one bad result and all the wailing and moaning starts again its going to be hell of a long bad year for everyone, so hopefully for once we are balanced about it*. Berrada and Ashworth need to get in asap, get the squad and other issues sorted and start getting the party started.

* who am I kidding. There will already be the crying and Ineos out the very first second we don't do something correctly in a game.
