Very irritating player. There were times when I thought he could be one of the best right backs in the game and he got some great attributes. However, he has been atrocious for a while now. If there is interest for him we need to sell.

Championship level. Nothing more. So bad defenivley that putting old 50 year old David May would be upgrade.

If I have to see him at left back one more time I might just give up, he actually gets into some of the best one vs one positions in our team and basically rashfords ot, slowly holds up the ball, lets the defence reset and then passes it 5 yards sideways, it’s infuriating.

Garnacho’s poor defending and inability to get up and down the pitch have been among his biggest flaw whenever he’s played on the wing. Playing him in a position where those flaws will get even more exposed would be madness. And that’s without even getting into the terrible form he’s been in for basically this whole season. He really shouldn’t be starting games in any position until he somehow finds his mojo again with some decent cameos off the bench (yesterday’s effort was the exact opposite of a decent cameo)

We’ve had this debate before, Pogue, so I’m not sure why you’re bringing it up again. Fast forward a few games, and Amorim still hasn’t tried Garnacho as a wing-back. Meanwhile, we’re looking poor defensively, so my solution would be to either assemble a team with more attacking impetus or reshuffle the lineup to compensate for Garnacho’s perceived ‘inability to get up and down the pitch.’

The worst trait a manager can have is stubbornness. Persisting with a system or setup that clearly isn’t working is a recipe for disaster. As a manager, failing to adapt can often lead to dismissal. While I’m not suggesting that’s necessarily the case with Amorim, it’s obvious that Dalot isn’t working in this role. Why not try something different? It doesn’t even have to be Garnacho—Antony, despite his poor form, could be shifted to the left. Just try anything!

If this “perceived” inability to get up and down the pitch bothers you, talk to me about Garnacho’s short passing and decision making and how it makes him suitable for the position. Better yet, look at his involvement in Wolves second goal and picture that repeated again and again.

Anyone who seriously thinks this season’s Garnacho is any kind of solution to anything is in for a grave disappointment.

You seem fixated on Garnacho, but he was just one suggestion.

That said, I’d love to hear your thoughts on Dalot’s short passing and decision-making. Here’s a question for you: do you believe Garnacho would provide better attacking output than Dalot? If the answer is yes, then consider this—you’re up against a club in the bottom three, and goals have been hard to come by. Wouldn’t it make sense to try someone who was effectively playing as a left winger before Amorim’s arrival, rather than sticking with a full-back who struggles to create and isn’t particularly strong in possession?

I know what I’d choose. It may not work, but at least it would show a willingness to try something different.

The truth is, I’m not even a huge fan of Garnacho. I don’t think he’s been particularly impressive this season. That said, I’d still back him to create more dangerous moments in a game than Dalot, who, at the moment, contributes next to nothing.

Don't think we're looking poor defensively at all. Poor from set pieces sure, but our open play defending has improved loads since he took over.

Dalot at LWB has been basically an uninspiring 6/10 sure, but that's more due to a lack of options. Garnacho out there and suddenly Martinez is far more exposed back there. Garnacho is careless on the ball which is fine to a point when he's just a front 3 player, even though it's cost us goals recently, but as a wing back it just doesn't fit. He'll get his game time, but he's woefully out of form and needs to work his way back in.

WTF are you on about? He was suggested as an improvement on Dalot, in a thread about Dalot. I disagree with that suggestion. That’s the extent of my “fixation”

I’d like to see more attacking wingbacks but I’m not sure we have them in our current squad. Not on the left anyway. I’m definitely in favour of Antony or Amad having a crack on the right. We could even try playing both of them at once but I suspect the manager doesn’t want to risk mediocre defenders as wing backs until we have a settled, well performing set of three centre backs (and a goalkeeper who isn’t displaying post Wolves PTSD in every match he plays). And I agree with that approach. If when De Ligt, Yoro and Martinez (or whoever) start to look reliable we can consider ditching Maz/Dalot. Meanwhile we can’t take that chance.

Ultimately we’re paying the price for accommodating wide attacking players in our squad who have been absolutely woeful at the defensive side of their job. Most clubs could easily convert a winger or two to play these roles. Our best wide attackers have been so shite when not in possession for so long we have no choice but to first try and convert fullbacks.

Not good enough, and the fact that he he's picked to start most games is absolutely infuriating, he's beyond woeful on the left and barely any better on the right. Sell or loan asap.

I think he's being evaluated harshly by fans. He has his technical limitations, but is one of the few players in the squad capable of playing a high intensity game -- and, more importantly, actually capable of staying fit for more than 5 minutes. He's playing in a new position, on the wrong half of the pitch, so it's no surprise that he's sometimes ponderous when it comes to playing the final ball. I don't think that he as a player is one of the issues in the squad -- just the absolute lack of options at LWB that is exposing his shortcomings even more.

We’ve had this debate before, and I’ve already explained my reasoning clearly—yet here I am revisiting it again.

You say we can’t take that chance, and I’d completely agree if Amorim’s current approach was delivering results. But it’s not, which is why I suggested trying Garnacho—or someone else—on the left.

As bad as he's been, part of me does feel sorry for him. He was one of our best players last season, only to be constantly played out of position this year. First at left back, now left wing back. He's clearly not as comfortable on that side.

We’ve conceded quite a few goals lately. Sure, you could argue that many of them stem from individual errors, but one thing is certain—we don’t look convincing in attack either. Yes, things have improved under Amorim, and we’ve created more chances, but yesterday was dreadful. So instead of sticking with Dalot in that role for the entire game, why not try something different?

Take Liverpool, for example. I believe it was Robertson who got sent off against Fulham a couple of weeks ago. After that, Slot decided to use Gakpo as a wing-back. Sure, Liverpool is in a much better place than we are, but that decision showed attacking intent, and they were incredibly unlucky not to win the game with 10 men.

I can understand sticking with Dalot and Maz as wing-backs in tougher upcoming games against Newcastle and Liverpool, where defensive solidity is crucial. But in matches where we’ll dominate possession and need someone capable of creating that spark in the final third, it’s time to try something different. Dalot has been very underwhelming, and relying on him in those situations just isn’t working.

That’s a valid point. One suggestion I’d make is to invert him, allowing him to play as a number 10 while the left forward drifts out wide. Amorim used this setup in the second half against Bodo Glimt, and it worked quite well. It’s puzzling why he hasn’t tried it again since then.

I think Amorim would like to put Amad there like he did in the first few games, but given the lack of #10 options, it's hard to move him there. Also, you have to trust the player you put there. He clearly trusts Amad, and he clearly doesn't trust Garnacho yet. It's on Garnacho to earn that trust.

For now anyway, with Bruno and Ugarte out and the 2 games after that being away to the 2 best sides in the league, we're unlikely to do that until after those games.

By that time, we'll probably have a new left wing-back

Man Utd 0:2 Newcastle New
Terrible again. Just pointless out there

One of the worst fullbacks that I have ever seen play for us. At least Buttner and Telles had some sort of attacking threat.

Decent game from him, solid defense-wise and not much he could've done being double-teamed every time when he received a decent pass which was rare

He's on his weaker side but feck me he's absolutely useless in an attacking sense. It's always been the big weakness in his game but insisting on playing him at LWB is an exercise in frustration.

Amorim needs to give up on this guy at LWB. Play him on the right or bench him, he’s getting the ball in so many dangerous positions on the left right now and teams are daring him to do something

Agreed, if he is dead set on playing a fullback at wingback then it has to be Dalot over Mazraoui.

Hes frustrating to watch on the left but he did find Maguire with his left footed cross, who hit the post. So he did do something going forward however much I'm sure a left footed, more attacking player would have done more than him.

I've never rated him in the slightest. He epitomises where we are as a team when he has been such a regular for so long.

Playing him at left wingback makes him even more useless.

He was ok tonight.

I've never really rated him but he's a right fullback being asked to play left wingback. What are we expecting?

Imagine asking Gary Neville to do that.

I had to laugh when he did some stepovers near the end of the first half. The only person he fooled was himself because he lost control of the ball.

He did cross a few balls into the box with his left foot. Dalot wasnt the worst player on the pitch.

Caf player of the season with another stinker.
You do understand that was for last season. He was playing right back and not left wing back.

so it’s always been his weakness but we’re expecting him to be even more of an attacking threat than before on the opposite side of the pitch. It’s one of the biggest problems in the 11 but I don’t really put the blame on him.

He's never injured. At least we have that

So good to see Phil Jones on Matchday LIVE :)

He was below par last season and the one before that. This is what we're working with as a club. Dalot wouldn't start regularly for any of our so called rivals

I can't be too harsh as he's not a winger and you can tell, although he did end up getting joy when he trusted his left foot. Until then Newcastle players just kept chop tackling him knowing he was cutting back inside.

He needs to be competing with Mazraoui for a spot on the right (not sure if either is good enough, but neither should be on the left.)

Obviously not a starting level LWB. But also, wouldn't be so noticeable if we had a left attacking mid worth playing.
