Sort of feel for Dalot, sort of don't as he sums up where we are as a squad

What I will say, Dalot works hard, seems likeable, he's committed and professional, he's a steady capable player - he's just not consistent to be a reliable starter for us, regardless of position.

Clearly, he's doing a job for us at left wing back - which you wouldn't ever really say he has the talent for.

He looks a bit lost, his crossing is atrocious, he cannot wait to pass the ball as far backwards as humanly possible and basically offers very little attacking threat. He's also very error prone. Sloppy positionally, sloppy passing, lazy tracking. He'll give you a shift, he'll work hard his base line ability level just isn't very good. A low baseline and some error's = weak point in the team.

What's worrying me more is the consistency that Dalot starts at left wing back. Amorin has been pretty experimental in his line ups thus far, I know Malacia has started a couple of games but he hasn't tried anyone else there. Not that we have great options but i'm a little surprised he hasn't tried Garnacho or Anthony there seeing as what Dalot is offering is pretty dire.

Left wing back is going to be a huge area in our transfer window for sure.

I cant see Dalot being anything other than a 2nd/3rd choice Right wing back next season. He's nowhere near good enough to play in any of the 3 CB role's and we'll sign 2 left sided players based on the need for quality out there

As bad as Dalot is at LWB, Malacia is not good enough.

I don't think Amorim views Dalot as "one of his most trusted players", he's not stupid. It's just the options for that position are so limited that he's the best of a bad lot at the moment.

Malacia is at the very least serviceable at the left while Dalot right now is well below par no matter where he plays and has been for a good while. I think Amorim rates his countryman in all fairness, based on what he's said specifically about him.

Dalot seems like the teacher's pet type of squad player to me, the type who says the right things and shows the willingness in training but his enthusiasm doesn't come close to matching his actual quality and consistency on the pitch. Rangnick and ETH both played the heck out of him as well. This is what Amorim has said about him:

"He's very powerful,". "We have to rotate him sometimes because he looks like he is always fresh but it's not like that. He's not a machine.

"I think he plays better on the right and we will manage to put him also on the right, but he's a very good player, very powerful that can play both sides.

"Nowadays, a player that can play both sides is like...it's perfect because you can put him in different positions.

"I expect the same as you saw in the last year - a great player that can help the team and is really a team player.

"You can feel it in every play, the way he lives the game, so it's very important for us."

I don't think this is merely blind praise, he seems to rate him and it's showing in his selection. The only other players he's singled out with such high praise are Bruno and Amad

Love Dalot, great guy, great character, met him a few times, I did the due diligence on one of the companies he invested in, but we need someone who will drive down the wing and cause havoc. So many times he was played through into space and he just cut back. Imagine a Theo Hernandez or Dimarco or even Alvaro there. Someone who will drive into space and attack with purpose, it would open up so much for the team and transform the attack.

He's never looked that convincing at left back, however, his best form has come at RB. We should give him a run out at rwb when we can (if Malacia/Shaw are ever available) and see how he performs there. He definitely has the attributes for that position, he has the stamina, decent attacking threat and good defensively on the right. So before investing in a new rwb I'd want us to see him there for a long spell this season.

He's not any better on the right though. One of those players who has all the physical capabilities but just has brain farts all the time.

Strong, can run for days, good injury record, hard working, good personality, decently ambipedal, decent cross and shot. Looks so good on paper and then he just does dumb shit on the pitch. Would be good as a bit part player but never a starter or someone to rely on.

Nuno Mendes, Dimarco or Davies would be dream signings for that LWB position, we would look so much more deadly if we could attack from wide on both flanks.

He seems like the kind of player that always gives it his all. Same as Amad and Bruno. I'm sure that is also seen in training, and it's a trait that managers value the most especially someone like Amorim.

As for why he's being played all the time, it's simple. There is no alternative. Malacia is not upto full fitness, and it would be very careless to put him in until his confidence has built up.

Garnacho is a good shout for the LWB role and I think he can really do well there. I feel like he's at his best when he's out wide, and isolated with the defender. He's quick, good at tracking back, likes to take on players, has a decent cross. But I'm not sure where his head is at, if he thinks he's too "big" to play as a LWB.

I'm really disappointed with his attacking contributions. Don't get me wrong, his defending has been terrible this season but I thought the confidence from last season would translate into greater attacking returns. He has been playing out of position in a disjointed team tbf.

Hope his forms picks up. Dalot could ideally be the modern version of Phil Neville.

Or Ivanovic.

I wonder if Amorim will try him at RCB. I think he would do better there than as a fullback. Unfortunately we don't have anyone other than him and Malacia who can play LWB.

Tottenham 4:3 Man Utd New
Still don’t understand why he plays , offers nothing in defence or attack .

It just is not enough. Wonder whether they tried with switched roles, playing Maz on the left and Dalot on the right. He is somewhat of a steady performer but doesn't give the team anything to make a difference.

Don’t want to be too critical as he is trying. He’s a bit unfortunate as he is being able to play a role he is not suited to, a proper LWB would be a huge upgrade.

He’s been consistently poor since Amorim came in but I think tonight was probably his best one. He’s clearly not a natural in that role though.

Thought he played well personally, a couple of cut backs to Eriksen were very good. Ideally we’d have a proper LB but it’s not the biggest issue we’ve got or had tonight.

Another very poor performance. A LWB signing needs to be prioritised in January.

Extremely dissapointing performance. He did play 2 nice cut backs, but in the open play where he has so much space which is pretty much designed for him to make damage he can't do any.

He’s relentless up and down the flank - he made a lot of good interceptions in the second half/reached a lot of 50-50s — he’s just quite crap at linkup play and having a cutting edge in the final third.

Weird player.

Thought he played well, a few brainless moments here and there, but better than his early season performances. He has terrific stamina and a good touch, just wish he was bit more effective in attack rather than just the build up phase.

The way Amorim wants to play, you need a very good attacking wing back and he's just not. He's a full back trying to attack. Doesn't have the pace, agility and ability on the ball to really be a threat. Eriksen should've scored from one of his few cut backs though.

I think he did quite well today. People seem a bit subjective given his performances have been poor this sesson.

He’s a dreadful wing back and a mediocre full back. We won’t be winning much if he continues to be a guaranteed starter.

I'd like to see him back in the right side before I completely write him off as a poor fit. He has the tank to run all game which is great in the position.

He is actually quite good at taking a cross field pass into his stride and keeping momentum. But doesn't do much with it
