Dalot was great in 22/23 until the World Cup (and also did well at WC), but got worse afterwards. Then he was our best player last season after Bruno. This season hasn't been good for him even when we were playing with 4 at the back so obviously a bad season regardless of formation. Still, he's rated around Europe as good player and think if we were to sell there'd be buyers for good fee.

Very frustrating today.

Wayward passes, lack of awareness at times and he’s so easy to get by.

He’s grating on me.
 
Can't stand the way he lets the crosses come in. No pressure at all on the attacker. He's more interested in doing chest bumps and high fives with his teammates.
 
His short passing is totally atrocious for someone at the level he plays. He will literally misplace a 3 yard pass.
 
He's so sloppy in everything that he does, there's a lack of intelligence in his play but he also makes a mess of the basics regularly too.
 
Dreadful. And he has a really annoying face so it’s hard to ever cut him any slack.
 
That chest bump with Casemiro was awesome.
He's so good at that.

Just a shame he's an atrocious footballer.
 
The chest bump for Casemiro for winning a throw-in was so embarrassing. Do you remember when we used to laugh at end of Wenger’s Arsenal for this kind of behaviour?
 
I loved the scene where he moved inside and ran parallel to the box only to then pass it directly to Ipswichs striker.

I've never seen it with him unfortunately. He is useful and always available but we just got rid of that guy in McTom, don't think we need another one.
 
Playing like he was drunk at times. His form and basics have fell off a cliff. Did well to get the shot away, which forced their keeper to parry for de Ligt's goal and got in behind a few times but probably made double that in simple errors and poor passes.

I thought he was ok at the very end when we were running down the clock, but overall another underwhelming performance, one that came with the usual array of brain-dead moments.
 
He provides no attacking threat. He should either be sold or converted to a RCB from next season on.
 
His availability is his biggest asset. Which will keep him at the club past this season I think
 
So many brain fart moments with this guy, really gets on my nerves. Should offload him if we get a decent offer in the summer, get a good young attacking RB instead.

I would if we can generate decent money. Ideally, I would like us to use a RW to play as RWB and not a RB. If we get Quenda, then Amad and him can alternate for the RWB spot and Maz can play there in case of emergency. That only leaves RCB as a spot for Dalot. If Ruben doesn't plan to use him there then it would be better to sell him and generate cash.

Agreed. He shouldn't be a starter but as a Phil Neville type that can do a 6/10 job at multiple positions I think it'd cost too much to replace him. Hopefully a youngster emerges over the next few years that can replace him naturally like O'Shea ended up doing with Phil.
 
He simply lacks the football intelligence needed at this level. Has decent attributes and a great engine, but is suspect defensively, and offers nothing in the attacking third. Also has an almost superhuman ability to make the wrong decision at key moments.

We'll go nowhere with him being one of those getting the most minutes.

Understandable position to take, but I think, we can't afford such luxury at this point in time. What you say applies to teams who have a functional 1st team and compete as they intend. We don't. Our starting eleven doesn't even look too good ,we can't just sit on players because "could be useful", especially the ones, who are rather young and might have at least a bit of appeal to other teams. Obviously thats not saying "sell him for 8 million" but if a decent offer comes in, we should take it and invest in the team. If he isn't seen as a potential starter or a good rotational option, there is no point hanging on to him. This mindset will only drive up the deadwood-o-meter.

He provides decent cover at three positions. He's probably going to end up having almost 200 appearances over the past 4 seasons and he's just 25. Unless we get something over 30-40 million, I think he's an easy keep especially on reasonable wages. I think he's more necessary during the upgrade than a luxury player at the moment.

Is this where we're at now. Slagging a player for bringing positive energy/clearly wanting to win. We had to dig in for nearly an hour of the game against 10 men for a very much needed 3 points in a premier league game. Its hardly embarassing FFS to display emotion at an action that almost gets your team over the line.

He's the gym bro you call to play football last minute if you're 1 player short for 5-a-sides.

Terrible passing, average speed, brainless play.
Good stamina and availability.

I gave up on Dalot as a footballer a long long time ago. He is not and never was good enough to be a Utd player.

I find it very odd that we're at a stage now where chest bumping and high fives is what endears a fan to a player rather than their ability as a footballer. It's like Fred always smiling, he's shit but he's happy. He's shit but he's good at chest bumps, it creates positive energy. Just forget that a few minutes before hand he fell over the ball and gifted the opposition a chanc e on the break.

It doesn't endear me, it just doesn't offend me like it seems to do to others. Just a bizarre thing to come in to a performance thread to mention. Last year when he was playing well it was credited as passion and leadership

Celebrating winning a throw-in is embarrassing. We used to mock Arsenal for this in 2006. They finished 3rd that year.

He doesn't provide decent cover, just cover at this pint. 200 appearances don't mean a lot given that it happened in a pretty dire time for the club. Even if we say, he was good in one of those seasons, this shouldn't take him off the sale-list. He is a fullback, who doesn't provide much in attack. There is a reasons, that the fullbacks, that are currently the most rated ones, have a pretty different skillset. It limits us and makes life for the rest of our players in the attack more difficult. All this is highlighted in the wingback role right now but it was an issue before as well.

I noticed that as well. "Gives his all", "passion", availability - it is dire times and we've seen enough to know that those things aren't "just given" but I don't see the reason to celebrate specific things. It is good tht Dalot for instance is always reliable. In our situation, we'd be better off having a few players who will reliably give you 5 or 6/10 in 3 out of games than having players who can give 8/10 but also 4/10. The issue with Dalot is though, on better days it is 5/10...

And it was more than odd to praise him for that as well. Nobody would mind his antics when the performances would mostly match that, but that isn't too often the case anymore.

He was good in one season and our best player( yes that doesn't mean much) another season. Again he's a 25 year old that provides cover in three positions and is a proven PL level player. Yes he has limitations in attack and concentration which is why ideally he shouldn't start but this would be like selling Fred or Herrera. Completely unnecessary and would be tougher to replace. As long as we don't get a silly offer, Dalot is a valuable squad member.

Casemiro has won all there is to win in the game and he's even celebrating. Yous are sounding like someone who's never played competitive sport or thinks footballers should be like robots. You literally see it every game that a teams backs are to the wall in the closing stages of a game when someone does an action to relieve pressure

You've never been in a team down to 10 men having to fight desperately to hold on to a much needed win and 3 points, and won a throw in the closing moments of a game to allow a chance to waste a bit of time which basically signals game over. You've never celebrated this?
