He's a good player but he's been ruined by being played on the left way too often. Early Dalot was spamming early outswinging balls across the box and getting past his man, the kind of play that should suited a target man. He's just in bad form now like the rest of them. He could have developed into a top class RB or RWB but we've handled him badly. Poor performances have been rewarded with more starts and none of his mistakes or flaws seems to have been worked on. Just mindlessly put into the team every single game. In a top team he averages out into a squad option on the right now and that's about it

Utter drivel. He’s been hugely underwhelming for almost his entire time here. Brainless, but with good physical attributes. His attacking output is non existent and has been in any position.

People complaining about the system an why he couldn't cross can't be serious.
When you're attacking these are the situations you play for regardless of systems.
The guy has the brain of a jellyfish.

He's not a good player that's being ruined by anything. He's just not a very good player, it really is that simple.

John O'Shea played all over the pitch and was 10x the player of Dalot in every single area of his game.

Was he 10 times as quick?

This.

I've seen so many comments like the one Oranges038 quoted and also comments stating "but he was so good that 1 season". The issue has always been that's he's not a very good player, not even good. Just an average PL player. Not sure how many times I've stated this on this forum, but his greatest ability is his availability and that's where his "great" or "good" abilities stops. He's average or just above average on everything else, but what lets him down the most is his football intelligence and decision-making, which might be the worst in our team (maybe on par with Garnacho here).

I don't think so. I think he's been shite for a while yeah for sure but definitely mishandled.

The glaring problem in this formation going forward is the two 10s and full backs. 10s are meant to be pressing and providing an outlet for the WBs to play 1/2s and overloads and then attacking the spaces that open up in the channels on the edge of the box and repeatedly probing and driving in. We don't have that so we have to keep recycling possession backwards. That and having a right footer at LB for most of the season makes us horribly unbalanced and is yet another player passing backwards most of the time. Anyway I digress. Seems to me like a lot of players are just wishing the season would end and they aren't getting on which is fair enough

Amorim love child, will play every single minute till the rest of the season no matter what and is the focal point of his system, this guy is brutal, any form of a debate about him is brutal. Watching him is masochism.

Has played the most minutes at the club since Amorim arrived.

Would love to know how many chances he’s created.

anyone saying he played great, well, exceptional last season has low ambitions and expectations. he was better that most of the team but still miles off what we need from a full back. when are we going to get a reality check. Dalot is not a footballer suitable for any team chasing championships in any of the top leagues.

At least Amorim’s grand plan is to have a left-footed winger in those situations next year, which will of course make it far less likely that he will cut and check back inside in the same circumstance.

I will celebrate when this lad is finally sold. I cannot stand watching him play. Too many attacks die when they reach him. We're desperate for a replacement. His best attribute is that he's always available, but he's so shit.

has to be the least intelligent player to play for us, he makes some crazy decisions, but they like because he has a great attitude.

No time for sentiment now, get rid, bring in better players. Id give Kamason as go from the u18's

In his defence, the over day against Fulham he geared up to do one of his famous (non) long throws... And he actually threw it pretty far.

This. Is. Progress.

God I hate stupid throwaway comments like this. Dalot is awful but a huge part of the problem is that there is no one to step in for him, unless you reckon someone like Lindelof would be a good choice.

There's a lot of things wrong with his game - he's inconsistent on the firs touch, his crossing is volatile and he is poor with his decision making. He's certainly one we need to urgently upgrade on, but I would still keep him in the squad because he's fit, strong, hard working and physical.

Yep - I’m fine with him as the reserve wing back option as he can cover both sides.

He is nowhere near starter quality though

Always liked his attitude, which also drives his adaptability to play different roles for his team, but attitude only gets you so far.

Unfortunately, his skill doesn’t match his will and he’s out of his depth at this level. I get frustrated with him because I genuinely want him to be good enough, but I’m aware now that he never will be.

He’ll be replaced as soon as we can afford it, which means he’ll probably see out his contract!

He is a decent player. More than decent. He’s just one of a number of players who has been sub-optimised by a system introduced by the new manager. He is one of the best RBs in the league. He’s not a WB though. The same goes for Mazraoui. He started the season as a unanimously brilliant signing and was great at full back. He’s also not a good WB though.

What exactly makes him one of the 'best' rightbacks in the league in your view?

Good performances while playing football as a right back. What else would it be?

I enjoy reading your posts and tend to agree with most of your points but this is low effort for you and on a view I just happen to disagree with. Diogo Dalot is under fire. I can't think of a single attribute he excels in and this covers any position he's deployed in. He's hit and miss even at the things some believe he's good at.

Outside of the loanees he should probably be the first on the chopping block ahead of Garnacho, Mainoo and others. He's just not a good fit for this system, can only do a job in games where the onus will be on defensive stability.

The PL is so competitive now that United need to maximise their attacking threat from every key position and can't afford to have a passenger at one of the WB slots who can't even play a simple low-ball into the box for an easy chance. He has zero attacking instincts or awareness.

£30-35m for him could go a decent ways into strengthening the squad considering he is pure profit in the books at this point.
