His first mistake this season, no?

I think people should calm down a bit. For the first goal, Maguire is signalising that he wants the ball, gets it and 0-1. Ten Hag should actually take responsibility for the first goal, when the game plan obviously was to play out from the back at all cost.

His first mistake this season was in the first game of the season.

We will never play the way Ten Hag wants to play without a keeper who can play with his feet. He’s just as responsible as Maguire for the first- he can see the men around Maguire. 2nd goal he’s got to save that and the 3rd enough said !

No.

Almost as hilarious as his comedy act when we played Villareal in the Europa League final a few years ago.

One of the most spineless players I've ever seen play at the highest level.

How anyone can compare this guy to Vds or Schmeichel is beyond me.

A joke, I hope? Otherwise this must be the first United game you watch this season. :)
Really? I can't recall any big blunders this season. There was one funny situation when the ball ended up rolling into goal through his legs, but that's was more unfortunate than anything. What other blunders?

Id be nervous with maguire infront of me. Ive been a big supporter of DDG, saved us so many points over the years since Fergie bought him.
tonight was a shocker.

Ten Hag should have known that, insisting on playing out from the back. All Maguire needed to do, was playing it back to De Gea.
Maguire doesn’t have a clue what’s around him as he never looks. He’s facing his own goal, De Gea should know that passing to him isn’t a good idea.

5th???

He's currently behind this lot

Kepa
Simon
Sanchez
Raya
Soria (who?)

He isn't an option for them, they would take someone from the lower leagues over him.

Yet, we still have fans defending him when his own country thinks he's that bad.

Players need to be held accountable. You can't expect two world champions to protect you every game. He's been here a decade, take some responsibility. He doesn't have the character needed to be a leader when we needed him the most. Frustratingly, we have so many deficiencies in the team that he'll probably survive another season due to our budget. But make no mistake, he is a clear weak link in the team.

His first mistake was literally in gameweek 2.

The amazing thing is he almost, and I do stress almost takes some of the limelight away from Harry Maguire for his mess ups tonight. After that first goal and the general trend of Maguire's United career that is quite an incredible undertaking. Yet if there is one man that can do it, it is our beloved goalkeeper.

Yeah no that wasn't good. At best it was painful.

I love De Gea, the good version of him, but this season has been an eye opener.

If that isn't proof that it's over and we need to refresh the goalkeeper position then I don't know what is!

For me it's got nothing to do with disliking De Gea. I don't dislike him, and I respect everything he's done here. It's just patently clear that he's not at all suited to the playing style we're trying to implement here. You don't even need stats to show you that, although plenty exist should you want them.

He's Spain's number 5 or 6, but somehow he's Manchester United's number one and about to get his contract renewed. You can't make this shit up. A tragedy is what it is.

Weak mind. Never going to win serious trophy with him
Last time we won EL, DDG wasn't our Goal keeper.

Probably the worst I have ever seen De Gea play. Maguire is taking pelters for the first goal, and while he takes part of the blame, De Gea never should have passed it to him. He had no outlets. De Gea should be booting that up field. Second goal is a complete joke. I would have saved that. And the less we talk about the 3rd goal, the better.

I think it's time to be ruthless and look for a new keeper. I love the guy but he isn't reliable any more.

He needs to be upgraded upon. But it's also clear Maguire turns the whole defence to shit when he is captain.

Just like the Brentford game when he makes a mistake he just gets shot completely and makes a few in a row. Big European away game we needed our experienced players to start well and he just caused so much panic

It's not about tonight, you don't judge a player on one game.

It's clear over the course of the season that playing De Gea in a ETH system is like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

It has worried me for some time that there's been negotiations over a new contract. It can't happen.

De Gea has no awareness.

The pass to Maguire was an atrocious decision.

The thing he did at the end was another level of terrible, though.

De Gea was in goal for all of the last European exits and at fault in almost every single tie. Mediocre keeper that folds under pressure too often:

Sevilla 2018 - fecked up Sevilla's first goal

Barcelona 2019 - at fault for the first Barcelona goal at the Nou Camp

Sevilla 2020 - beat at near post for the winner from De Jong

Villareal 2021 - saved no penalties in the shootout and missed one

Atletico 2022 - was OK

Sevilla 2023 - one of the worst goalkeeping displays of all time. At fault for 3 of their 5 goals.

Maguire was calling for the pass or at least it seemed like it. But I agree both need to go

Honestly, play Butland for the rest of the season. Absolute disgrace.

He'll make a sensational save in the 70th minute at home against some no-mark side like Boreham Wood when we're already 4-0 up and all will be forgiven and forgotten by most

Maguire may have been signalling that he wanted the ball, but De Gea has the best view on the field and should clearly see that there are 2 players closing Maguire down and one of them is taking away Maguire's only outlet (AWB). De Gea never should have given him that pass. You only give that pass when a player has an easy outlet...

My lad plays in goal for a local under 9s team. He is told by his coaches not to pass to a player that his facing him with opposition players near by. It's literally schoolboy, De Gea can see the danger there is much more sensible and better pass on to A.W.B who isn't surrounded by opposition's players. Why would you pass it deliberately into danger in the first few minutes of the game?

He just hasn't got the mentality or brains to play out under pressure. And it's not the first time he has sold of his defenders down the river this season. It happens on a far too common occurrence.

Bad mistake with his footwork for the second goal against a very saveable effort, and the third just shows up his uncomfortableness when attempting to sweep.

Don't get me wrong we were awful all round tonight, but De Gea is totally at fault for the second and third and has accept a huge chunk of the responsibility for the first along with Maguire. Essentially he has cost us in a big knockout game. Not for the first time either

Aye, he is literally my favourite player in the squad. And once he goes I'll happily remember how good he was at his peak, years of service, etc etc.

Right now though he's a glaring problem in the team.
