Copa America 2024 - Argentina Win

Criminal charges must be filed against this clown of a manager.

Just saw this post. One manager unbeaten in international football from early 2022 to last night. The other won two Copas and a World Cup. Which one is it?!

For fecks sake my country’s name is COLOMBIA! Not Columbia

Fun fact. Went on a ground tour of Villa Park in the mid 2000s when Juan Pablo Angel played for us and in those days there was an International board by the main entrance. Angel was listed under "Columbia" so spent five minutes arguing with the tour guide about it. Think they got rid of the board when I went on the tour again a few years later so no idea if they changed it.

After various whiskeys and a call with the gf on which I promise her to take her to the World Cup finals regardless of what our NT does, here’s my opinion about the match.

Pretty close match, it was a game for ages, on the first 90 minutes each team got chances, but nobody was able to score. On extra time, it really noticed the quality or their bench vs ours, while they had freaking Lautaro on their bench, we had Santos Borre. They scored against us in a a play that left us speechless, but was of extreme quality.

Thanks to the boys, it was a good tournament for us, a country who only has one Copa and who’s best World Cup was achieving quarters. In believe on this team, and I hope we can reach semis on the next World Cup, and sooner than later win a CopanAmerica again. We are in transition, after that good generation of the 10s, and today it really noticed that we miss a number 9 in the mold of Falcao, but hopefully someone will appear.

Congratulations to Argentina, you are fair champions, and thank you to James, Lucho and all the boys, you made us proud.

Ps. If you are going to talk about my country at least take into account that the name’s Colombia not Columbia!!!
great great game from Colombia.

Miami is a portal to an alternate universe. The entire state of Florida is an embarrassment, but this is a new low. Maybe FIFA will pull Miami from the list of host cities for the World Cup.

Miami is not responsible for what happened yesterday, Conmebol is the organizer and the ones who pay for security, so after what happened with Uruguay they should add more police but they didn’t.

Didn't realise the final went to extra time.

Colombia the South American version of England. So much talent but can't quite translate it into trophies like Chile and Uruguay in last 20 years.

And just like England the only time they won a trophy was in a home tournament, that was an absolute sham.

Argentina has a coach with big balls no problem in taking out Messi (67minute) and Ronaldo for Portugal playing the entire game plus the ET not doing anything.
Uhh no, nothing to do with big balls. He was injured so was substituted. Messi came out at half time even when he was visibly walking with a bit of pain. He was only substituted when he was no longer able to play.

Edit :

I know a few coaches without big balls that would take off an injured player. Messi was unable to continue from what I read

The fact you are trying to argue that the Copa America is harder than the Euro is astonishing. This is a tournament that has been won by the same three teams 83% of the time.

No one said that. That's in your head.

This "83% of the time" you mention considers old southamerican championships when they were often only 3 or 4 teams participating. If you only consider the period when everyone was participating and the tournament is actually called Copa América (from about 50 years ago) you have a similar amount of tournaments and winning dispersion than the Euros.

Well the likes of Scotland, Georgia and Slovenia are better teams than Bolivia, Peru, and Venezeula.

The 5th best team in comnebol couldn't even beat New Zealand in a playoff match for the world cup. Canada just entered your tournament and went undefeated against half your federation.

The fact that you're comparing bottom tier teams from CONMEBOL to average teams from UEFA is a testament to how poor your argument is. Average teams from CONMEBOL are Colombia, Chile and Paraguay, who go to one of every three World Cups and usually get to the second or third round there. None of the teams you mentioned has ever got to a WC 2nd round.

The 5th team from our qualifiers did beat New Zealand in the playoff match. Perhaps you're thinking of Australia, who did defeat Perú on penalties for the last WC spot. And then in the WC defeated Denmark (a Euro Cup Champions) fairly easily. For the record, that same Australia Lost to Chile and Perú at the two previous World Cups.

He's not what MU fans make him out to be?
Nah, he has better players ahead of him right now. It's as simple as that. Players like Messi, Di Maria, Alvarez, Martinez.

Nico Gonzalez is not better than Garnacho from what I've seen in this tournament but seems to be preferred more because of his ability to win aerial duels, which is surprisingly very high.

Uruguay and Columbia aren't much better.

I like how folks claim European bias or superiority complex but then imply their teams would walk the Euros. Both have 4-5 teams that are quite good and neither would waltz thru each other fields.
They definitely are. No one can seriously think that Netherlands were anything but utter shite in this tournament.

You absolutely have one.

It was just a bit of wumming on my part. I didn't see enough Argentina games to truly have an educated opinion on Garnacho.

But I appreciate the input about why he's not been on the pitch.

Tried to stay up to watch this but gave up.

They should move this tournament to Europe next time and move the Euros over there. Let them South Americans experience real football for once.
 Euro 2024 was real football?

You know about Dunleavy’s!? Hell yeah!
hell yeah...that was our spot every sunday for brunch before hitting the beach right there on 21st...that was the "secluded" end of Sullys Isle that really only the locals would go to most of the time

Yeah man, that place is awesome. A little hidden jewel away from the beach front. The whole island is great, really. Been going to Sullivans since I was a little kid.

i lived on atlantic ave for a number of years so that was a favorite spot for all of us to hit up as we could basically walk to it and not worry about DUI's

had a g/f that lived on Marshall Blvd so spent most of my time there anyway

make sure to hit up Dunleavy's Pub when leaving 21st ave coming off the beach......or Acme for a nice southern meal.
Will take that advice. Kid just moved down to Mt Pleasant doing a fellowship at MUSC so now we will hit as many sights as we can on vacations. Charleston is an amazing city too.

don't waste your time going over to Folly....stay in charleston or Mt Pleasant area, it's way better. Make sure you hit Shem Creek for the restaurants right on the water.

Spain lost in the Confederations Cup in 2009 to USA, Argentina beat Italy in the 2022 Finalisma.

So if anything this Argentina side are a touch more successful than that Spain side.

Don't blame the Unglish.

Messi's ankle was swollen to the size of a grapefruit, I don't think that took any particular courage to sub him out.

Maybe, Argentina missed a glut of chances too.
Was a great game. I had a lot of fun watching it. Happy with the result too

Fantastic way to bow out for Messi, if this is the end ;) You could hardly script this better. Back to back Copas and the world cup.

Di Maria officially retires today from international football having achieved everything as well. Under 20s world cup. Olympics. Copa (twice). World cup.

Beautiful!!

This again.. so stupid and racist as hell.. and singing this stupid racist song about french after beating comombia too.. such a shame

So the Argentina team are singing the racist song again. And of course, Enzo 'Not The Sharpest Tool In The Box' Fernandez posts it on social media. Classy bunch.....

We all know racists are all hopeless idiots, but the level of ignorance with this fecking Angola is impressive. France had a thousand colonies in Africa and yet you chose to sing about the one country they never controlled, I don't think there was even one relevant French player that had anything to do with Angola at all. If I want to insult someone I usually try to get my facts right, not look like a moron
