Copa America 2024 - Argentina Win

what a crazy ending to the ecuador/mexico match with the penalty that wasn't......piss off mexico and go home

Just utter cowardly football from Ecuador. Mexico did deserve to lose though. Utter corruption has turned this into the worst Mexican side I have seen.

Mexico didn't deserve to win just like England didn't

ffs...Mexico had their first shot on target in minute 60 which was better than England which waiting until minute 95

Unbelievably thankful I didn't buy tickets for what turned out to be a Canada vs Venezuela quarterfinal

Most definitely, Mexico didn't deserve to win, but comparing the situation and issues the Mexican Federation has with the national team vs. the FA with England, it's a completely different issue. Mexico simply doesn't have good enough talent. For a football crazy nation with a population of 130 million, that's just insane. You think being an England fan is bad? You have no idea what we Mexicans feel with our national team.

What's the deal with the brackets keeping all the group A and B qualifiers on one side and all the C and D qualifiers on the other? Guarantees that no matter how the groups were to pan out, Argentina wouldn't play Colombia, Uruguay, or Brazil before the final.

CONMEBOL giving Argentina a cupcake walk to the Final.

Being Argie I'm not in neutral position, yet I dunno what is really better in such a short Tournament, if having a very relaxing group stages and later face most traditional or on paper tougher teams or having tougher groups to face on paper worse teams in KO matches, because at the end of the day you always have to beat what you have in front.
In WCs and Copas it's pretty common from big teams to go out against "inferior" rivals. The thing is that in the way this CUP happened, nobody expected a Costa Rica making it harder for Brasil and Paraguay being softer, or Peru and Chile (even having their moments), not being as tough as they use to be and Canada even naif complicating more Argentina than the other two, while UY cruise in a very expected way a very light group doing their job with an excellent note. At the end of the day I do not think that in KO matches in these type of Cups and the WCs it matters that much, there are always odd results, or very bad perfomances form huge teams and very good (or lucky ones) from smaller sides.

Why are Mexico so bad. Struggling to score goals.

Never been good. They play against minnows in CONCACAF, and now they are loosing terrain with USA and soon against Canada.

Didn’t they have a decent World Cup last time out though? Or they looked decent

I think Uruguay should win comfortably

Our coach, Gregg (yes he has 2 g's) Berhalter is America's own Southgate. The majority of the fanbase wanting him gone, he has proven tactically inept, and the Federation is inexplicably tied to him.... which can only mean he is going to squeak a win tonight and somehow fall ass backward into the knockout rounds.

I think Uruguay should win comfortably

I hope so. Ipswich play Liverpool on the first weekend of the season. My sole interest now is that as many Pool players as possible go deep in their continental competitions. I can see Konate, Gakpo, Jota, Trent, and VVD doing so in the Euros, plus hopefully Alisson, Nunez, Mac Allister in the Copa.

mexico is much like england for it's players....under massive amount of expectations and scrutiny without the success factor
Eh sort of but this team id different in terms of pressure. Mexico had solid teams in 2006-2018 but some tough luck against Netherlands, Argentina and Brazil in some mighty close games. This team currently though is just so low in quality and the frustrations from the fanbase because of this is brutal compared to England because Mexicos issues are systemic, not necessarily do to underperformance like England.

oh agreed....Mexico is so short in terms of quality it's quite shocking which clearly is on the federation and the clubs

I'd normally be all over the Mexicants for their elimination but the US will probably also bow out tonight, not much fun in that.

Did the Mexican crowd resort to their homo chants when things weren't going their way?

Since when have they needed things to not go their way to launch into their bigoted mantra?

Do USA have to win tonight against Uruguay who are already through?
Group C scenarios for USA soccer
  • With a United States victory: They will qualify for the knockout stages as long as Panma draw or lose. If Panama win, the United States can still qualify for the knockouts but they will need to have a better goal difference than Panama. As it stands, the U.S. have a two-goal advantage.
  • With a United States tie: The United States will only advance with a Panama draw or loss.
  • With a United States loss: The United States will only advance with a Panama loss and if they have a better goal difference than Panama. If the U.S. lose 4-0, and Panama lose 1-0, Panama advance.

Panama needs a better result than USA to leapfrog them into 2nd, but the complication for USA is that Panama is playing against the worst team in the tournament, while USA is playing against arguably the best.

Uruguay has a national anthem that sounds like it should be on an airline advert.
