I don’t think he’s as bad as everyone makes out. What I do think is that he can’t play in a team that doesn’t keep compact enough. We were so open last year (as we’ve been for some time really) that he was always gonna struggle. High line and some savvy midfielders around him and he’ll be fine.

That being said I’d still take Saudi money if it came in

He looked decent against a Betis team that sat back and let him have time. He has high enough technical ability to keep the ball and made some progressive passes if given time. But even in that game, he struggled to cover ground in midfield and is always late to tackles. How many PL teams will play as slow as Betis and give him that much time on the ball?

By playing Casemiro, we’re not only damaging the team but we’re holding back arguably our biggest talent in Mainoo. The kid needs someone next to him that can free him up by shielding the back four and covering some ground. Ugarte is perfect for that role. Hell even Rabiot would be better than Cas. Hopefully we sell Scott, bring in Ugarte, and Cas can be a dressing room guy with less minutes since we can’t seem to move him.

I watched us closely last season. We had no back line and we had a dodgy keeper, who is going nowhere this season. Casemiro was a weak link, but he wasn’t the only weak link. We need to shore up our back line and so far all we’ve done is bring in an 18 year old.

If we can sell Casemiro and clear his wages off our books, outstanding. Whether do or don’t sell Casemiro we need to bring in a CDM. If we sell Casemiro we need to bring in two CDMs. But if we do bring Ugarte apart from the fact that we’re paying Casemiro 350/week (presumably minus 25%, like everyone else) Casemiro would still be an important squad man for us. Unless, that is, you’re happy to pay his 262.5/week wages and have him train with the reserves and not suit up with the first team.
We are going to be stuck with the grinning turnstile for the length of his contract.
Wether he plays or not is down to Erik but it seems he has finally learnt from his Antony experience that the price tag of a player should not dictate playing time.

Hopefully ETH will start players based on form, not wages, but right now we don’t have a better option over Casemiro. Hopefully we will and if we do, Casemiro would be a pretty decent option coming off the bench.

Decent in preseason against other half fit teams mean nothing. I have zero trust he has the physicality for the PL. Annoying that he is still atound

He is the weakest link in our team. We cannot have a CDM who is slow and lacks stamina. We are probably stuck with him due to his wages. Great first season but terribly overpriced.

The way he gives the ball away so cheaply and dives in and mistimes tackles leading to team breaking away in midfield are hugely detrimental to our play. These are two things that won’t change this coming season.

As a few have said he might need to scrap being seen as a lone DM and move more into an 8 role with a 6 behind him. He’s capable of scoring and making passes in behind defences.

I’d rather ship him but if we keep him we have to at least put him in a position to succeed. How ETH played him last year was criminal and unfair on Casemiro.

Unless we're compact at all times with no space between our players, his physicality is going to be exposed time and time again. Reaction times are slow, acceleration is slow, top speed is slow. He'll be diving into challenges getting booked and getting dribbled past all season, again.

We just have to hope he plays a bit-part role if we can sign a new DM, as it doesn't look like he's leaving.

By far the weakest point in the squad, as he is the single player who can play as DM. We are going to face 20+ shots every single game if he is still 1st choice for that position, that's for sure, especially if we're still doing 41x setup.

Grandpa Casemiro. Damn I still felt he could contribute but that was embarrassing. He's a winner so will never quit but his legs may be quitting on him.

His legs being gone is not a good match with what his brains want to do. He tries to press forward but quite often plays himself completely out of the game with wrong decisions bursting forward to make a tackle.

Yeah not a great sign him lunging in like that, him and Onana are massive problems going in to the new season.

He is done. Easily beaten by any decent dribbler, awful at even short passes!! and somehow has managed to drop to Eriksen levels of intensity in one season. The only thing he's got left is his aerial ability, has to stop telling himself he's still a midfielder and play at CB. Maybe it will work in a low block. If we're serious about this season he shouldn't play more than 15 games.

When does the Saudi transfer window close? It will probably be harder to move him on next summer.

We really fecked it up with this one, he's been way past it since last season and it's only getting worse. Physically he can't cope with the intensity players just run past him it's ridiculous. If we can ship him even for free just to save his wages it would be a good choice.

We should not be playing in a low block. Need to get rid of the duds and build a team that doesn’t have to keep adjusting to the weaknesses of its personnel.

He’s a weird case. Never seen a 32yrs old footballer struggle to move so badly who’s quite a professional and with a good injury record. He’s just 32 ffs, what’s wrong with him and his body?

If he starts vs Fulham, we're in trouble.

He's finished and should be nowhere near the starting XI.

Going to be massive liability this season, opposition going to be delighted every time his name is in the team sheet. Given our lack of options he is going to play a lot of games as well.

We should just offer him on a free. At least we get rid of his salaries

Agile #10s or winger tucking in inside can just dribble him too easily these days.

Some nice passes, but you can't be a DM who gets skinned that easily that often.

Following matic career with us nicely. Were gonna have more disappointing months than good months from his utd career after the high fee. Shame

Matic was always at least good defensively. Casemiro is absolutely awful defensively.

The guy is finished, sad really for such a great player in his day and RM laughed all the way to the bank with that 70 million. Bought way too late in his career. Time for him to go to Saudi and get his last big payday. The PL will eat him alive this year.

Not selling him his summer is going to hold us back this season. It was clearly evident last season that he just is not up to it in the PL anymore, yet we'll still be starting him next season.

Hey glad we are playing hardball with selling McT though! Gotta keep those goals!

Absolute war crime having this guy as the only DM in the squad, much less first choice.

If we’re looking to clear out a midfielder to make room for a new DM and aren’t bothered about what we get for them (as you seem to be implying), then surely it’s Casemiro we should be getting rid of, not McTominay?

How hard is it for some fans to understand that to sell a player in contract he needs to actually want to leave?

Of course we want rid, but he’s on insane wages which are guaranteed for another three years and there isn’t a chance anyone matches those.

We’re still paying the price for the idiocy of the previous regime unfortunately and in some cases we cannot get rid of deadwood nor fund replacements because of it.

The best we can hope for is we sell players with some value to fund his replacement and he spends most of the season on the bench.

He had a decent 6 months. The back end of his first season and last season have been a complete disaster.

Probably why you don’t see competent clubs spending 60 odd million on 30+ year old midfielders….

No disrespect but let him go on a free ffs.

Genuinely worth taking whatever someone offers for him at this stage. 10-15m and spend it on a loan

That's right,
At the very least Scott is a bench option when we need a goal.
We will not be able to shift the grinning turnstile as he is on a fortune wage at the club and we can only hope that he just works his arse off in training and lifts his game on the pitch.

A 32 year old brazilian on a 350k/w contract untill 2026.

We can tell him hes free to go but we are still gonna have to pay him. No ones gonna do it for us.

where'er saudi clubs?
they have no problem buying washed up Chelsea, liverpool players but buying United players is where they cross the line?

4 year contract they gave him, he’s a liability anytime he’s on the field so him being back up is pointless unless it’s against lower league teams in cup games. What’s happened to his mobility and when did he become so bad at putting in a tackle? The deterioration of him physically is shocking, he looked in peak physical condition all his career too.

We still owe him about 55million in wages, it’s obscene!
