It's a poor decision given we are still in a couple of competitions, but ultimately the decision will hinge on a) is he going to be the difference between winning the Europa League; and b) will a loan where the benefiting team pay very little signal to him that he's completely done here.

I can't think of too many high profile players that are unceremoniously turfed out on loan for little to no financial benefit, that end up staying the following season (whereas players regularly play a bit part role from the bench earning an order of magnitude more than they contribute).

I have never been the biggest fan of Casemiro (not even in his Real days) and could not stand the deal when we brought him in. That being said I don't understand why we are not using him more as we anyway have to pay him. Him and Ugarte in front of the CBs looks the most solid to me against better midfields. Mainoo is not ready or better in a more advance role and Bruno is not good enough.
Casemiro oddly is also one of our biggest goal threads whenever on the pitch. That does not say much with us creating nothing, I know.
And he seems to be happy with a part time role.

Must be worth a run out as the middle CB in the back 3. Certainly reads the game well and his passing would be an improvement on what we have seen from Maguire and DL

A bit surprised he has not featured more under Amorim since the Newcastle match. If paired next to Ugarte, he might actually solidify the middle a bit and also provide a bit more of an attacking impetus.

I think Amorim's team selection is very heavily aligned to the finances. Pretty sure SJR has told him he needs rid of Rashford and Casemiro ASAP or no new funds.

Surely from a leadership veteran perspective we should keep him no?
He's been here for the two years where this team looks like it's leaderless on and off the pitch. God knows what sort of leader he is, if that's been the end result. The notion he's a good leader because he was part of a very successful real side.

De Ligt was captain of Ajax at 19. He is a good leader but I'm not sure he is a certain starter in the future. Ruben prefers quicker more agile defenders e.g. Maz, Yoro.Heaven, Dorgu

He might get a start tomorrow if Collyer and Ugarte miss out .
I do think he’s been treated a bit unfairly since Newcastle not even brought on as a sub for 15mins etc . I’m not counting that “cameo “ v Leicester

Have to agree, been very poorly treated to not even feature off the bench at all. He seems to be a model professional as well and has experience we could use.

I think the club were desperate for him to leave in January to free up the a big chunk of his £350k a week salary.. Him refusing to accept any offers (he's got every right to) may have caused tensions and awkwardness in his relationship with the coach, hence the seemingly unfair treatment.

He is the pudding on the fried breakfast plate, delighted sitting there on the plate after the sausage, egg, bacon, toast. mushroom ...... collecting fat, getting paid, going nowhere soaking up the grease. Just a paid lump of grease, no purpose. Cruel? Or Realistic!!!

All about the money, nothing else.

I guess in the sea of insults to our players yours is at least comically weird.

We gave him that contract , and I totally disagree I think he’s one of the players I’d want to have in that dressing room. He hasn’t kicked a ball since Xmas and hasn’t kicked off about it or anything .
He does his warm up during the game kisses the badge when he runs towards the stretford end , it might be an easy thing to do but in my opinion he’s a model professional. Since Newcastle he was thrown in for 5 seconds v Leicester which I think was taking the piss a little.

I felt Amorim really disrespected him last match with that 30 sec cameo.

Now he's reliant on Casemiro for the next few games.

His match fitness is probably well below par, and at 32 it'll be harder to get straight back into the rhythm of the game.

Amorim has brought this on himself if Case is poor today imo.

Tottenham 1:0 Man Utd New
His legs are gone but his passing is levels above Ugarte in that role.

7 tackles won as well.

How murtough got his pants pulled down on this transfer tells you everything you need to know about how the glazers have ruined our club. Any other owner would have sacked him on the spot.

Are football players the least self aware people on the planet? Because if he was, he would have realized that the pace of the league is too much for him and at the age of 32 tried to play football in a league more suited to him. He is a good player but this league is not just for him. Hopefully, he'll push for a move in the summer rather than being content with picking his hefty paycheck for another season.

Blimey that was a tough one. It's hard because he really tries and is clearly a good professional but he's running in treacle.

To be fair to him, he desperately needs legs around him and most of the time he's been in the team for the last 18 months he has been playing as a 1 man midfield.

I get that he’s past his peak, but how do you lose so much mobility at 32? He’s the same age as Salah ffs

For all the criticism, he’s still very comfortably been part of our best midfield so far this season. The spell under Van Nistelrooy where he and Ugarte played 10 yards away from each other is the best stuff, far better than Ugarte and Mainoo or Bruno.

Casemiro’s mobility is a lot worse than it once was, but that’s only a huge problem when a manager has the bright idea to play him with no teammates within 30 yards, which has happened surprisingly often over the past 18 months. When you put him in an actual midfield, with colleagues close to him, he can still show quality and has done this season. However, very little that Amorim does makes much sense anyway so not surprised here.

Not really a surprise he isn’t the answer to our problems and proving why he has been left out. His mobility is dreadful and it makes playing him almost pointless.

He's the oldest 32 year old I ever seen kicking a ball professionally.

It's interesting because usually it's players who started playing at a really high intensity level at 17/18 that you expect to see this happen to.

I don't think he went to Madrid until he was 21 and even then wasn't playing every match for them for another couple of years after that.

That and also the fact he isn't a full back or a winger to rely that much on pace. He never had pace, but now it seems he is running backwards.

The same happened with Matic. But we don't seem to learn and keep spending huge money on these declining players in a position that requires a lot of legs or a great passing ability.

The positive is that we may see the end of the moronic "He is 29, in some years he'll be 40" jokes on Caf. There is a reason teams don't sign players of that age when they are rebuilding.

happy to cash the cheque every week. won his medals and why would he want to move elsewhere to earn less and prove what? he's won it all. people will say he's entitled to it but he should be ashamed the fecking greedy turd

Collect the wages agreed on the contract that we offered him? How dare he. Definitely worth insulting him for.

How have his legs gone so early, hes only 32 but plays like hes 52. On the ball today he was ok but he just cant cover the ground as a DM.. He cant do it.

he and everyone knows that previous ethos was a huge mistake when he agreed his contract. so now he's capitalising on these mistakes. I'm angry at the previous 'regime' and how it has totally screwed us bigtime. I know there's no chance and it's far fetched but Rashford, casemiro, Shaw, mount all happy to collect their wages in such a mess should have some token of morality and consider our current crisis. Average people getting sacked and they couldn't care less.

Most definitely is.

Brazilian footballers fall off a cliff physically when they hit 30.

It's like their body tells them, "ok enough football for you buddy, it's party time now!"
