How about the stats from the game you’re talking about? 88% pass completion and we’re being told he “kept giving the ball away”. People just see what they want to see with Bruno.

The issue is how he gives the ball away, misplacing extremely simple passes that you would expect even a centre back to complete. He was also doing useless presses to the goalkeeper, leaving Portugal a man short in midfield on the counter. Its the same problems many in here were pointing out in the first half of the season, which are all extremely valid complaints. It seems like the United coaches feel similarly given that he has recently been playing as a false 9

Why are the Portuguese media criticising him and Dalot for Portugal’s loss yesterday. Wasn’t just down to them. Bruno usually carries that Portugal team. Why not criticise Bernardo silva or Felix. Oh because they don’t play for Man United

But I don’t need to watch it to know you’re talking out your arse to sum up a player with 88% pass completion by focussing on how he “kept giving the ball away” And even if I assume you aren’t talking bollox and he really did mess up a whole bunch of easy passes then his more risky, creative passes must have been out of this world to end up with so few misplaced passes overall.

I tried to engage neutrally with most of you, with some it seems possible, with some it seems like it isn't changing much.

And btw - I think it is at least a bit ironic that you are asking me about the subtone of a statement like "kept giving ball away" while the first thing you did is bringing up a passing stat - as if that would be the only way to lose the ball. And you know full well it isn't. Talking about subtones here.

I can’t see it. He’s an attacking CM and really nothing else unless you play him off the right and I don’t think that really works.

If he’s here next season it will be Rashford (he’s going nowhere), Hojlund and Garnacho as a front three in my opinion. Bruno behind and the midfield will still have the same issues unless we can get a top DM who can help Mainoo out a bit.

Euro heroes are hard to predict, I remember Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, Joakim Mæhle and Kasper Dolberg being dead certs for my all star team after last EC, but not before.

Portugal are also hard to predict. Sometimes I feel if they play well, they’ll disappoint, if they play shabbily, they’ll impress.

But I agree re: Bruno. He had a frustrating and below par autumn, of course the effort was always there, but he really blossomed the last couple of months despite the team still struggling as a composite. (And no - not because of him, clearly quite the opposite).

The only clubs in the world with a better CAM are just better run and wouldn't build to have that player and Bruno together anyway. Good clubs don't shoehorn players together just because they are theoretically available.

I love Bruno, but he doesn't start for City, Real Madrid or Arsenal. Well maybe ahead of KdB for City now as he's going down a bit and has more injuries.

It’s a one off game versus a team who play quite a specific way + I think Pep is often a bit average in knock out games in terms of reacting and adapting, he likes to think his style will win out no matter what.
