Do you think there will be a Deal or No Deal?

You can’t win with you lot, when markets fell and the pound weakened that was due to Brexit. Now it has all stabilised what has caused that exactly? The reality that things aren’t as drastic as you lot seem to want to make out?

This then goes back to my previous point that you’re all throwing about arguments based on future events that literally no one can predict.

I’ve had people tell me EU citizens will have to leave the UK. That has already been agreed that won’t happen and was never in a million years going to happen.

I’ve had people tell me a border will be set up at Ireland. It’s an EU tactic to get a better deal. Switzerland has exactly the same situation but there is no issue. Why would they allow travel through Switzerland with no issue but would with EIRE?

You keep telling me all my news is fake yet seem to believe everything you read, and that any issues will not be resolved with a solution.

No... no they are not.

If someone said if I gambled my life savings on a horse the world would end and I gambled my life savings on a horse and that horse didn't win, but the world didn't end - have I come out of that situation ahead?

There is of course a border but they abide to the EU’s free movement of people. Rather than arguing with everything I say maybe have a quick read on the internet. It’s not difficult to find.

And if you followed that advise, you would have known that first EIRE aren't the problem it's the UK who aren't part of Schengen and have informed the EU that they were leaving the SM and EUCU. If the UK agree to an FTA and joins Schengen then they will have the same type of borders that Switzerland has, with people from the EU and the UK crossing without problem like Switzerland. If they don't want borders at all, they will have to join the Custom Union.

.
Do you really think Switzerland is the same as Northern Ireland? Are you aware of the history in NI?

You clearly missed the Prime Minister telling you clearly and repeatedly that ‘Nothing is agreed, until everything is agreed’.

This might not matter a lot to you personally, but to me and the other million odd people currently living within the rest of the EU it’s rather a big deal. Not to mention of course the 3.5m EU citizens currently in the UK.

Do you really believe this could happen? I mean really?

I dont know a single Brit that is running to the passport office in case this does happen. Do you live in fear of what you read in tabloids?

Downing Street sets out some details of new Brexit customs plan

Downing Street has set out some of the detail of how customs could be handled after Brexit.

No 10 says its new plan - dubbed the "facilitated customs arrangement" - offers "the best of both worlds".

The details come as Theresa May and Angela Merkel prepare to discuss the progress of Brexit negotiations when they hold talks in Berlin later.

The UK prime minister is facing calls from the EU to clarify the UK's position.

According to No 10, the new plan would allow the UK the freedom to set its own tariffs on goods arriving into the country.

Technology would be used to determine where the goods will ultimately end up - and therefore whether UK or EU tariffs should be paid.

If I understand correctly that proposition has already been made and EU members asked why should they trust a non member to collect EU tariffs.
You understand just well. It's a proposition that has already been called dead on arrival.
May is gambling on the member States telling Barnier to feck off.

She gambles on member states to tell Barnier to feck off when he takes instructions from the member states? Do you think she is stupid?

Jaguar Land Rover boss: Brexit threatens £80bn UK investment

Jaguar Land Rover has warned that a "bad" Brexit deal would threaten £80bn worth of investment plans for the UK and may force it to close factories.

The UK's biggest carmaker, owned by India's Tata Motors, said its "heart and soul is in the UK".

But without frictionless trade JLR said its UK investment plans would be in jeopardy.

The warning came as Downing Street set out details of a possible post-Brexit customs arrangement.

Yes I think she's stupid. There's no other reason she's coming up with a proposition that has already been rejected. She is trying to get the likes of France and Germany to put pressure on the other member states to accept her offer.

From last year but here's Merkel's line which I'm sure she will repeat to May once again.

“One cannot lead these (Brexit) negotiations based in the form of ‘cherry picking’,” Merkel said in a speech before members of the German Civil Service Association in the city of Cologne.

“This would have fatal consequences for the remaining 27 EU states,” added Merkel. “Britain is, for sure, an important partner with whom one would want to have good relations even after an exit from the EU.”

But it was important, said the chancellor, “that on the other hand, we are clear that, for example, access to the single market is only possible under the condition of adherence to the four basic principles. Otherwise one has to negotiate limits (of access).”

So you really think that she is a dumbass, France and Germany are the least likely to accept that.

What other explanation do you have for her presenting an offer that's been rejected?
We are going in circles.

Yes she is. She's also weak and trying to placate both sides of her party who want different options.

Infuriating that this referendum was promised to heal divisions within the tory party and nothing has changed except we are shuffling further and further to the cliff edge and they are still bickering. And the opposition still can't oust them.

She is playing for the british audience, thinking that most people don't read official papers, because I'm pretty sure that this was in the last white paper. Your alternative is way too scary.

Do I think they’ll round us all up and kick us out? No I don’t. Do I think that potentially we could face laborious residency procedures we currently don’t have, including spending hours queuing at town halls like my non-EU friends already have to? Sure. Do I think that as I’m planning on applying for citizenship after 5 years, that I’ll have to start meticulously tracking any trip out of the country I make so I can prove I qualify? Maybe. Do I think that no deal could lead to the wonderfully friendly people of Europe having a much worse opinion of English people like me, with potentially worse effects on my life here? Sure.

From the day after Brexit the EU heads of state came out one after another to reassure us Brits in their countries that we were welcome and they’d help us however they could. Whitehall said nothing and then started talking about us as bargaining chips. No. 10 were the ones who insisted on the ‘Nothing is agreed until everything is agreed’ because they wanted to use the 3.5m EU citizens in the UK as leverage, and feck the Brits abroad.

So yeah, I’d like to know exactly what is going to change in my life in just 9 months time. I don’t think that’s a particularly unreasonable request.

I think Greece tried to use this tactic in the early days of Syriza. It didnt work.

But i dont know any Brit that thinks like this in NL. I dont hear any of the dozens of chinese i work with complaining of hard procedures. In fact i just hear it from people on here. The Dutch dint offer dual nationality but are going to do so for brits with brexit. Have your govt offered the same? They could do if they wanted. As someone entitled to dutch passport why are me and my mates not applying for one?

She's on her way to Merkel. She's going to tell her not to dismiss the plan. She's still of the opinion Merkel can tell the EU what to do.

Perhaps the Dutch residency system is easier and better than the French one? I have American friends who regularly have to spend 3-5 hours queuing up at the city hall, and endless demands and regulation on their documentation. The French love their paperwork.

France already allowed dual citizenship, so at least that’s not as big an issue. The potential issue is how smooth that process will or won’t be. Huge numbers of Brits here already did it after Brexit, and apparently how easy or crushingly hard it is depends completely on the particular town hall you have to use. For some it was a complete breeze and for others a total nightmare. We’ll see. I just hope my government doesn’t totally antagonize the French in the remaining time. If Brexit ends up costing thousands of French people jobs, they’re not likely to be feeling very friendly towards us.

They can come up with all the creative trade partnerships in the world but it's all worthless and simply waste of taxpayers money by focusing on priorities which won't resolve the Irish border issue if the free movement of people remains a red line.

David David:

To be honest I actually think she is counting on it being rejected as they can then spin it that they tried by offering a couple of alternatives, they even went back with a third option but the nasty EU rejected them all - its their fault that we now have to have a full on hard brexit and a border in Ireland

What self respecting trading block allows a low tariff country on its border collect tariffs on its behalf?
This shit is why the "meaningful vote" bill was so important. We are at the mercy of a bunch of loons.

Good luck getting the other 26 to agree too.
I think Ireland would - Im pretty sure Belgium and Holland would be likely, Poland and Germany I think probably.... but beyond that I think it starts to become a bit more tricky.... (most telling though is that this was said just after taking over the rotating presidency - is it one person off the cuff or is it something that has been spoken about in corridors etc as a preferred way of kicking the can down the road by a year or two)

Thats France for you, still stuck in the 70s.

He did mentioned it at the end which makes the previous lines strange from a cognitive standpoint.
I was about to say we haven't left yet until I read the line where he said I know we haven't left yet. Then I thought doesn't that acknowledgement make the rest of the post redundant?
