Do you think there will be a Deal or No Deal?

This has been the intention all along, if you disagree you haven’t been paying attention. It’s disaster capitalism at its absolute worst where the capitalists are manufacturing a disaster of epic proportions.

But I thought we would fudge together a last minute deal?!
You can keep thinking that if you wish, we're a bit off the last minute yet. The EU summit didn't end yesterday, it's in it's second day today. Then Barnier will have a couple of days to put together what they've decided and bring it to Johnson next week. And then it might be the last minute, or might not, we'll see.

Can a Brexiteer explain to me what incentive there would be for a manufacturer to remain in the UK in the event of no deal?

But, aren’t y’all off to a strong start with the trade agreements with Mongolia & the Ivory Coast?

Yeah, the number of completed trade agreements doubles every fortnight. That's exponential growth! Woohoo.
Statistics are what one makes of them. Exponential growth is nothing but a positive. Y’all sure love your winning as much as we do!

You'd hope after more than a decade of making the country far worse people would wake up and see that they are a cancer. Unfortunately, the Conservatives are like cockroaches and survive all manner of scandals and controversies.
I no longer have that hope.

Yep. Billionaire owned media backs them. Idiots are heavily influenced by media coverage.

Somehow, I doubt we've heard the last of these negotiations... call me insane, but I'm still putting a deal as slightly more likely than no deal.

It'll be no deal. This is what Boris wanted from day 1 personally and wouldn't be shocked if he and his mates make a fortune from it. I'm very cynicial when it comes to these arseholes.

I have an inkling of that also, the language used in the press conference felt it was more a shot across the bows. He said he wasn't walking away, but inviting them to come to the table if they're wanting to change approach.

Whilst I think Johnson & the tories are capable of going through with a clusterfu*k of a no deal (par for the course with him), if he was truly serious of no deal now he wouldn't be inviting anyone for last ditch talks.

I'm not a Brexiter but it depends who you're talking about obviously. Car plants will be gone, but the pie factories in Melton Mowbray will presumably stay.

You'd just have to be such a colossal fecking idiot to think we can muddle through a no deal scenario in the worst economic downturn ever recorded. My hopes for commonsense to at some point prevail keep getting dashed to smithereens though.

The Brexit impact on the economy will make covid's downturn feel like a walk in the park.

My principal employer, whose revenue is highly correlated to the health of the financial services industry, has already had to raise cash once this year cos of Covid, so feck knows what will Brexit will do...

What tune are brexiteers signing to today then?

This is the issue i have with those who claim we need to have reasonable debate with those who vote differently to us. These people don't hold any view in good faith it just changes with the wind.

I don't know what the answer is to bring these people round but it isn't to move their direction.

And horseshit like that was readily consumed & believed by the brexiteers back then? That’s criminal.

I think most people that voted for it didn't care about it. It was about "taking back our borders" and "regaining out sovereignty" and all sorts of other bullshit. They wanted away from big bureaucracy, wanted to relive the British dream of being a powerful independent nation that just gets what it wants, when it wants it, and who cares about all that free trade nonsense, I'm just selling to the folks in my community, not them bloody Europeans.

That doesn't apply to everyone, but quite a lot. And once you commit to the idea of such a major change based on ideological reasons, you don't need to look too deeply into the facts, you just like hearing the people on your side say good things about the decision you've made.

At the end of the day the UK and the EU were intertwined in so many different ways that unless you were fully invested in the details, you wouldn't be able to fathom all of the negative impacts, and "the nation is tired of experts", so just leave that to the politicians. And when things don't work out, just stick with the EU as the bogeyman. The only thing that might start to become clear to a lot of the Brexiteers at this point is how much weaker the UK is in comparison to the EU now. It's hard to avoid that recognition. Presumably they'll just try and convince them that a "clean break" was in everyone's best interests now.

Then there's the rich Brexiteers who made money in the financial markets, so they'll take the long term hit as they've ran away with their bags of money.

The whole thing is a shambles over and over again.

Jesus, what a fecking abortion.

In any other country this would end up with certain people strung from lamposts by their ankles.

That's for next year when finally it dawns on the Brexiters that they've a slight error of judgement. An angry horde chasing Farage , Johnson and Gove through the streets would make great reality TV.

Nah they’ll blame someone else as always.

Of course they will. And it will be all down to the EU not giving the UK a trade deal. Nasty EU.
And good old Boris did his best.
And he delivered on the wishes of the people and stood up to that nasty Barnier.
Good old Boris...

What the hell is an Australian style deal. Where did that come from.
Up to now it was supposed to be a Canada style deal...

Australian type deal means no deal , but Johnson decided to try to fool everyone again.

Canadian style deal is just a FTA which is not really suitable either for dealing with a trading bloc on your doorstep.

Either way the UK is in trouble, it is leaving the Custom Union that is going to be the real problem which is happening with or without a deal. Having a FTA will slightly soften the blow.

Maybe I'm giving the government too much intellectual credit but maybe they realised the UK is in trouble either way so why not go for an all out no deal
