Congratulations.
Thanks
Congratulations.
You know that is utter revisionist bs. Even Farage was calling for a European free trade agreement at the time of the referendum, then a Norway type deal, before jumping on the much later no deal bandwagon. There is no ambiguity. They sent out leaflets spelling it out. The reality is if people wanting to leave were that concerned about how we'd leave, they would have went out onto the streets. They didn't because they knew what they voted for. It's the media who have stirred up the bs by saying most people didn't know what they voted for. No part of leave the EU in any way shape or form, implies with a deal.
Forgot to say, had my official welcoming ceremony at the Préfecture as a french national, nearly a year after gaining french nationality, given an official diploma by the Préfet, sang the Marseillaise. About 30 people who obtained French nationality in the département in the past year of whom 6 were British including me.

Yeah, neither are particularly french and most people haven't and won't eat it.
French people don't eat snails? Used to have them every Xmas eve. You'll be telling me you don't eat fois gras, next.
Congrats, and I’m super jealous. Still another 6 months before I can apply.
Congrats!!
Congrats Paul! Always nice to see people settle abroad and contribute to their new society. You must’ve had to jump through some serious hurdles to get there. All the best
And Well Done & Congratulations from me too.
I might have to go German if the shit hits the fan - just hope that I don't have to wear lederhosen and sing Das lied der Deutschen
All the British people I know here have now covered themselves by getting french nationality or a Carte de Séjour
I said most people won't eat them, not no one. And it's also not particularly french, they are eaten in other places. As for foie gras, lots of people hate it, it's an acquired taste.
The Lyon prefecture are terrible. I applied for my carte de sejour back in January. After 4 months (and endless phone calls) they finally told us they must have ‘lost the application’ and I should reapply. I’ve applied 3 times so far and still heard nothing. My French girlfriend has now decided we’re going to go there and make our displeasure clear in person next week. I feel sorry for whoever will end up facing her wrath.
Best thing would be to go in person. A couple I know got their Cartes de Séjour within a very short space of time at the Limoges Préfecture. Just unlucky if you come across a pain in the backside dealing with your file. Tell your girlfriend to give them hell.
Rory Stewart is going to declare himself president of Venezuela by the end of the year
Labours position seems to be... Do what the trade unions tell usI saw Hilary Benn on Sky News insisting that Labour should make their position clear because voters are confused.
He was also talking about a referendum with three choices.
Remain, an agreed deal and no deal so the people could decide and then straight away said no deal would not be accepted by parliament.
Labour's position is now clear..... as mud.

What the LABOUR party is listening to trade unions! What crazy times we live in.Labours position seems to be... Do what the trade unions tell us
As opposed to you know the broader electorate (you know the ones where about 82% think Corbyn is a useless tosser)What the LABOUR party is listening to trade unions! What crazy times we live in.
I'll put it in bold this time so you won't miss it.As opposed to you know the broader electorate (you know the ones where about 82% think Corbyn is a useless tosser)
Is Jeremy not returning your phone calls ?(you know the ones where about 82% think Corbyn is a useless tosser)

The only sane way forward is a new referendum.
Q1 stay or leave
If majority for leave
Q2 May's deal or hard Brexit
All sides would be hard pressed to block the outcome if the question is more specific.
That could lead to no deal with only 26% of the people voting for it.
What’s the democratic alternative?
Any talk of a 2nd referendum leads me to only one conclusion... it wont work
Getting a question format let alone an actual question agreed will take months (if not years when legal challenges are taken account of) and as there is so many options / opinions probably at least 75% of people dont agree with the format / question and feel it is a stitch up.
e.g.
we voted to leave there fore any 2nd referendum should only be between no deal and an exit deal
It should be a re-run of the last referendum
It should be the W.A. vs remain
It should be no deal vs remain
or perhaps it should be 3 options on the ballot
Remain, leave with deal or leave with no deal.... but shoudl it be straight majority, alternative vote or simply rule out the option you dont want
or should it be a staged question leave / remain... and if leave then leave with no deal or with a deal .... but who should get to vote in the 2nd stage ... only those who believe in leaving anyway or everybody
A G.E. seems more likley than a referendum to me and if somebody gets a big enough majority they can force through whatever is in their manifesto - other than that I think at some point the Eu gets fed up and a default no deal becomes likely... certainly dont see a 2nd referendum being possible by october 31st and certainly dont see a format that could be agreed without legal challenges and much distrust from the public.
Time is against us and remember Macron's throwing a tantrum over a longer deadline, I can't see why he'd be up for extending it more.
Whether we like it or not, a very significant portion of the population want No Deal. It would have to be on the ballot.A new referendum would have to keep no deal off the ballot paper. There's no legitimate reason why no deal should be a option other then it's popular with certain section of the public.
A new refendum should be between the deal this goverment gets and remaining in the EU.
