Do you think there will be a Deal or No Deal?

The country that you are living in? The national assembly president, the president of the Republic of France, the president of Senat, the court of Audit president. The list is fairly long, so I will stop there but the term simply designates someone that presides.

Even our village has got many presidents - Pétanque, choir, parents and teachers, solidarity, rugby club, football club, and many others.

I know we keep saying the same thing, but Hunt was talking about bailing out farmers to the tune of £6 billion- with all of these industry bailouts and emergency measures needed around Brexit, can't someone just stand back and say 'this is a fecking stupid idea'. The more money is chucked at it, the more ridiculous it is.
what is there about 126000 farmers apparently - so something like £47,620 per farmer - that wont even buy them another ranger rover!

The mayor of Amsterdam wants to close the red light district and you're all still discussing Brexit.

I'm not into these red light things but if you need help to batter him just tell me.

These goals are not negotiable,” Halsema told the city’s newspaper Het Parool. “For a long time, there was a sentiment of sailors around the red-light district who, after months of sailing, go to a ‘stout’ Dutch woman. The situation now is that predominantly foreign women, of whom we do not know how they ended up here, are laughed at and photographed.”
only to those foreign gals... its still full steam ahead with sailor trains through "stout dutch gals" apparently

though there are other options...
Beyond closing down the red-light district entirely, other possible options include a ban on the brothel windows while allowing sex work to continue, the relocation of some of the windows or, finally, opening more windows to reduce demand but potentially setting up turnstiles on certain streets “so that you shield off pieces of public space for passersby who don’t need to be there”.

more gals and charging people to go into the area... yeah that sounds like a pretty dutch solution to me

You sure they are all farmers- must be loads of small holding people in there.
probably - I suspect those with bigger holdings will be a fraction of that - so yeah if the payments are proportionate to the land then perhaps a couple of range rovers for the ones who are rich to start with...
that Jeremy hunt really is a complete Jeremy Hunt isn't he
I bet a fair few thousand are conservative members though...

He seems to be turning more hardline by the day. I'm kinda glad to be going away for a few days tomorrow and getting a bit of respite from all of this nonsense.

*applause*

The strange thing about that argument coming from members of parliament, is that members of parliament are the typical instrument of representative democracy. She is basically saying that her decisions and words as a member of parliament are undemocratic. At some point people may want to understand the difference between direct and representative democracy.

Do we even grow bananas in the UK?

If not why are these damn foreigners stopping us?
exactly without the eu's stupid rules we will become a top exporter of bendy bananas we will call them Boris Bananas and make Britain great again by sending Gunboats and attacking countries till they agree to sell our opium Bananas

Ursula von dr Leyen. German, of course (largest financial contributer to the EU, so why not is the answer to those who might suggest that the EU is merely a way for Germany and France to rule Europe )

No, the much vaunted EU's Franco/German axis will become the Greater Germany model now. Macron has failed the test, even a wobbly, not very well Merkel is still running rings around him. The UK was the last obstacle to a United States of Europe and when they are gone it will be full steam ahead.

This actually makes sense for the Euro-zone countries for this to happen, (not sure about the others who are not in the Euro though) it will allow more balance to be brought to the EU states overall economy, but at what price for such as Greece and the other southern states?

they become the european rust belt - with some added beeches and tourism

Not sure about the rustbelt bit, but if the red-light district is closed in Amsterdam, there maybe an opening for some southern beaches to become the 'whorehouse' of Europe, a bit like Cuba was to Florida, pre Castro?

It's like the drunk at the pub was given a platform.

What can the EU do at this point they've offered a hand and we've slapped it away on multiple occasions, they might as well sit back while we drown.

It’s a minor point in the grand scheme of things but I can’t get over how bloody rude they all are. Whatever happened to good British manners?

The only people who want the UK to leave as soon as possible with no deal more than Brexiters - the whole of the rest of Europe, when will they ever leave, please go away.
indeed I think this mantra that the EU dont want no deal and will re-negotiate is overstated
I think the new commission see it as a done deal and its take it or leave it - but please make your minds up

I've not had as much time to read the news recently, are there any new developments or is everyone really just waiting for the clown to be PM? Has anything relevant happened since March 31st other than May stepping down?

Given brexiteers won democracy and all that what are they doing with it? You all rich yet?

Unless I missed something nothing is done regarding Brexit, pretty much like the last extension. They will most likely think about it around October 20th.

Yup, and they're going to get a real shock when the EU turn around and say 'Bye then, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out'.

That's a bit generous, 30th Oct surely?

The politico's (UK and EU) would have you believe everything is calm on the surface, but that their legs are pedalling like mad underneath trying to avoid a no deal, truth is they can't find their way into the paper bag, never mind finding a way out.

The Tories leadership race is now about who can sound toughest on Brexit and give most money away! Labour is now telling everyone (but their leader) they are now for Remain, any pretence of wanting a vote on what type of leaving deal we should put to the people has now evaporated! The lib dem(os) are now into selling printed 'T' shirts to their friends in the EU or at least selfies of themselves showing off their new merchandise (Ed Woodward take note please, this is the way to sell shirts, not buying multi-million pound players, who cant or wont play, as clothes-horses).

In the EU the changing of the guard at the top is a secretive affair, the white smoke' eventually emerged, but the result seems to have pleased no one, except the individuals themselves, who have all got form in their previous jobs and are just glad to have a chauffer-driven car of their own!

Mrs Merkel's not feeling well(can anyone blame her?) and Macron is doing his best to make her feel worse, so much for the Franco/German axis!

Going down to the wire has a new significance when viewed in EU terms.
