I think the way it works is that firstly the Tory MPs narrow the Tory leadership contenders down to two, and then the wider party membership gets to vote on which they prefer. According to all the Tories I've spoken to Boris will absolutely walk it if he gets through to the final two. He is nowhere near as popular with MPs though, so he probably won't. How sad.

It's extremely concerning that Nigel Farage who wants to privatize health care, reduce gun restrictions and thinks women get paid less than men because of their lifestyle choices is now more popular than the leaders of Britain's two biggest political parties.
General Election? His ratings went up and hers went down a bit during the campaign.
Oh yeah makes sense. Farage's Brexit Party don't even have a manifesto and yet people are willing to blindly vote for him just to get out of the EU.

Really? His approval ratings have been on a steady decline since 2017. 94/100 polls conducted by YouGov/Opinium in the last two years have had Corbyn behind May (although her own ratings are also pretty dreadful).
The country might be divided over Brexit, but there seems to be pretty much universal agreement that the leaders of the two main parties are completely useless.
So who will be PM after TM gets the elbow?

Maybe she hopes that the fear of a no deal Brexit under a brexiteer PM will be enough to scare a few opposition MPs into voting for it.
Conversely, a few of the Tory right (like Boris) who folded and voted in favour of MV3, will now obviously be strongly motivated to vote against her and thereby usher in the leadership contest.

The point of the article is that people think this might happen, not that they want it - quite the opposite actually.
Europe returns to being a fractured collection of competing nation states, overshadowed and manipulated freely by the US, Russia and China. Trade will diminish substantially, social progress will slow and in some nations decline, and it will all be extremely fecking depressing.

Take France - support for Mélenchon in freefall, Gilets Jaunes in freefall, Le Pen level with Macron as it was around the election two years ago. Support for Socialists almost disappeared.

I think our perspective is being wilfully skewed. People who want dramatic change are always going to be highly motivated to vote, whereas reasonably satisfied people aren't so bothered. And then there's the desperation from monied interests & their media allies to make it seem that there's a massive public mandate for Brexit, especially the harder kind...
I'm sure May didn't expect them to succeed, she only needed them to spin out time until the new deadline, when once again she could force MPs to choose between her deal and no deal. The plan hasn't changed a bit.

The average pensioner statically has more spending power than the average working age person. No doubt you're right that there is huge levels of inequality being hidden by that average, but that's also true for every other demographic too.
On the most fundamental level, that seems flawed - those particular, fortunate pensioners have had more years to accrue money.

I could be wrong but people earning under 30 grand mostly voted for brexit, so there is a element of ''cry of the underdog'' but overall the idea that Brexit was just bunch of left behind white coal miners fighting back against the liberal elite is complete horse shite.
