Do you think there will be a Deal or No Deal?

 rioting in Berwick on Tweed.

It’s wonderful how the debate is always framed around not offending the 17.1 million leave voters (or however many are still alive) in their little towns. The other c.50 million citizens of the UK, and places like London, Manchester, Bristol and Edinburgh, just have to lump it.

Britain’s low income masses, often known as the “left behind”, appear not to be the main cause of rising racial and religious tensions, according to research showing middle income earners are more likely to feel threatened by immigrants, Muslims, Gypsies and Travellers.

Nearly four out of 10 people believe immigrants threaten Britain’s future, with 31% worried about Muslim people, 41% believing Gypsies, Roma and Travellers pose a slight or major threat, and 6% concerned about Jewish people, according to a poll. But more of those who express fears about immigrants have a household income of between £25,000 and £50,000 than those who earn least.

Far from wanting to “take back control” most people who fear immigrants also declared themselves very or fairly satisfied with life and said they were completely or mostly able to influence decisions that affect their lives.

Honestly, as bad as it sounds, the pandering to close minded small town people who just want to point a finger at anyone but the people actually responsible for their problems has caused nothing but negatives in the last four years or so. It’s that exact demographic that gave the world Trump and Brexit.

Q: Can you assure us that the largest seven EU trade deals are ready to be rolled over in the event of a no-deal Brexit?

Fox says the UK is making good progress on this front. The UK is ready to roll over these deals. But it is reliant on other countries to be ready too.

UK government makes astonishing discovery that negotiating with itself leads nowhere.

At this point I believe a number of brexiteers want a no deal simply to see what it's like to watch it all go up in flames.

Interesting rumour from a journo after pmq's on 5 live.
The dup are coming under signifigant pressure from businesses to ensure no deal is avoided... And that the Cox codicil /codpiece /amendment might give them sufficient cover to then back Mays deal.

This would then bring a chunk of the erg on-board... But probably not enough to get the deal through on 12th.

However if no deal is then rejected and an extension approved the rest of the erg and a few labour leave MP's would then swing behind Mays deal...(especially if the EU ask for the extension to be more than a few weeks) And then the passes before 29 march.

It does seem like her only option... And still a bit of a gamble... But equally the maths is probably there for that to happen

The problem here is that avoiding no deal does not necessarily equal supporting May's deal.

Looks like there very likely aren't going to be any "legal" change on the backstop. This would appear to be yet more May desperation to go with the bribery and everything else.

I don't see May getting her deal through without the legal changes on the backstop. May has been running the clock down as no other strategy other than the threat of no deal, which May, Hammomd and the rest are of course the biggest opponent too... The EU know this and that is one of the main reasons the "deal" is so appalling in the first place.

Ultimately nothing has changed since December. Still the same options. Still the same transparent charade with May threatening no deal, which she is absolutely opposed too.

There can’t be any real change to the backstop such as a unilateral right to revoke or a short time limit. The question is whether the Attorney General can concoct some fluff which is acceptable to the EU and superficially different enough to the December deal to allow MPs to save face if they vote for it.

Yep. That is exactly the position.
As they have maintained, there will be no change from the EU so it will need some form of smoke and mirrors illusion to allow Mrs May to get her deal through and I expect that to happen.

My Girlfriend’s boss went to an event last weekend and realised they were sitting next to Banks. They picked up their stuff and moved to another seat. They then proceeded to see 3 other parties do the same.

He’s known to be absolutely toxic around Bristol apparently.

These warning don't mean shit anymore. It's like the Trump debate. If you're for it, nothing is changing your mind.

Exactly!
Its like two faith-based religions; those favouring Remain are of a status quo belief; those favouring leaving are of a need things to change belief.

Strongly held ideologies on both sides and neither will change no matter what the outcome, because one spreads 'project fear' like its almost willing it to be a self-fulfilling prophesy and one spews out 'fake news', and the future is unaffected by the present.

Going to hell in a hand cart as my old grandma use to say!

Straight banana's...seriously?!

Why is British media so obsessed with this format? (or is it just sky?)

I mean anyone in Britain can go outside and ask some random stranger about Brexit... where's the information or entertainment value in that? It's just a constant reinforcement of stupidity. The never ending cycle of stupid people being heard saying stupid stuff by more stupid people who feel reaffirmed because some bloke on TV said it.

I genuinely turn over from Sky News whenever they do this, it's infuriating that they give voice to these people. As you say it isn't journalism

Something to do with democracy and the common person's opinion being worth something perhaps?

There isn't such a thing as a common person. Everyone is a common person (except the Royals maybe). Amplifying the voice of random individuals way beyond what the content of what they say justifies has nothing to do with democracy. I never said to take away their vote or anything remotely similar to it. "because democracy" has become this ultimate justification for anything now, hasn't it?

Their opinion is worth as much as anyone else's. It's not representative of anyone else though. At best it's a random voice, why put it above the other 64 million voices when it has nothing of interest to add to the discussion? Especially when there is so much stuff actually worth discussing at this time.

I have a lot of family members that you would freely and disdainfully call stupid. I can guarantee you they are comforted when people like them are represented in any public medium. Everyone is different but one of the levels we judge people on is how similar they are to us. The reason you're compelled to ridicule the idea of them having a public voice is the same reason they're heartened that thoughts like yours don't entirely govern the world they live in. So much other commentary on politics is dominated by aristocrats and experts. I'd imagine you can't see how suffocating that can be for other people if you can't see the value in this.

I did not say this. I asked:

I seriously doubt the 2nd part of that sentence as well. I did not ridicule them or anyone in particular. The post I quoted specifically has a remainer too. I didn't even say which opinion I don't share or think is stupid. You have filled all the gaps for yourself to suit your narrative.

Yeah so suffocating having to listen to people talking about a subject who actually know what they're talking about. Much more beneficial to have some random stupid twat spouting bollocks so other random stupid twats feel represented..

You asked why are stupid people allowed to reinforce other stupid people's opinions. You really think many gaps need to be filled in?

It all depends on your priorities in life, of course. What you think is beneficial for other people isn't the same thing as what they think is beneficial. Unfortunately your view of the world isn't the right one. It's just yours.

Sorry, I don't buy into this idea that all opinions are equal, they are not. The opinion of a taxi driver from Slough about trade and economics is not the equivilent of the opinion of an economics professor or international trade negotiator. This is half the reason we're in this mess in the first place.

Amazing how a government will act like the public's opinion is sacrosanct on this matter, yet habitually won't give a damn about public opinion.

What a blatantly obvious swindle.
