I'm a big fan of Amad but if you take out the 2 goals he had a 5/10 performance at best especially considering the opposition who were mid table Championship level at best. If people think that's a good level for the rest of the season then we have all forgotten what a good winger plays like.

I'm a big fan of Erling Haaland but if you take out the 36 goals he had a 5/10 performance at best in the 2022-23 season especially considering a fair number of the goals were scored against relegation fodder teams. If people think that's a good level for the rest of his career then we have all forgotten what a good striker plays like.

According to OPTA he lost the ball four times and misplaced thirteen passes. But he also attempted the most dribbles and had the most involvement in the opposition penalty area.

20 possession losses is an insane amount. I'd like to know how they came up with that because I don't remember him losing it that much? 10 or even 15 I can believe but 20?!

Weird player really. Scored two excellent goals which both showed real character to execute, but his all round game needs work, especially his passing choices at times.
It felt like under Ten Hag the players were left to do their own things on attack. Use creativity or basic play design/philosophy. If the new guy has the forwards knowing exactly where to go and where each other will be (as we see installed in even lower PL teams), then Amad will shine that much brighter. Right now you'll have someone like him running at players, and everyone else just watching. There are no support options that he knows will be there and can pass to. Right now its him guessing which direction his teammate will go when he passes

This us just nonsense. Haaland gets away with it because he scores 36 goals. If he scored 17 goals a season then he would be fkn useless. If Amad scores 37 goals then he can also have 5/10 season. Its the same as why everyone has a go at Rashford. If he's banging them in and getting 30 goals he's world class. When he's not scoring gets no use to us. Amad get a thumbs up for scoring 2 goals but he is no Haaland. If he wants to have a career alongside the top wingers ie Saka, Salah, Giggs, Beckham and on and on then the rest of his game can't be a 5/10.
Don't know why that's hard to understand

Seems to me that lots of fans watch full United games but for everyone else they'll just watch highlights or compilation videos. There's an unrealistic expectation for players to play the perfect game. That's never the case. If you watch a full game of even the best teams no winger has a game where they don't misplace a final pass or lose possession a few times.

Getting a 5/10 for scoring 2 excellent goals whilst also being unlucky to not win a penalty is ridiculous. Better off watching FIFA streams if those are your expectations

Well it was just a moronic post really wasn’t it. You’re discounting the two goals he scored in a 2-0 win to slag him off which is ridiculous.

Keep doubling down. It’s very amusing!

What is even the point of taking away the best actions from a performance and then rating it? It’s not like those two goals were random tap-ins. And on top of that he should have won a pen, and I believe he also provided a cross that Højlund could have headed in.

He was the most dangerous of our front four by far.

Exactly. The most important quality (or at least joint-most important) in an attacking player is decisiveness. And yesterday, Amad twice proved decisive, scoring the kind of goals none of our other attackers have been able to score lately. Decisiveness wins games - Amad scored twice, we won, but yeah it was a 5/10 performance...

It's like taking one of those De Gea games from years back (think Everton or Arsenal when he denied Alexis): yeah he pulled off two wonder saves, but take those away, he didn't really have much to do. If that's what we're going to consider world class keeping, then our standards have really dropped...

I understand what you are saying and agree with you. He wasn't great in some aspects of the game, but the good news is I think he will get better and better and I think he'll end up being a very good player for us.

Man alive. Really? I'm missing a joke here surely

Potential is there, that is in no doubt, a raw talent…will take a good coach to bring him performances up to 8/9 out of 10…he’s a 5/6 at the min, he does seem to know when to cross and when to shoot which I like. Just fine tuning on that and his defensive work and he will have a good wingback on our hands

I see that everyone has mistaken what I said. I rated Amad as a 7 I think. MODS can go check and call me out. My point was that he needs to improve the rest of his game. People are being blinded by the goals. I'm pretty sure that's exactly what Amad and the team will do as well. Go away and assess his overall game and not just watch his goals and say didn't I do well.
They will do that for the game as well. Sure first win for a while, good result. But take away the goals we were very poor. Especially in the first half. Ruud said it himself.
It's OK yo asses without sections. Like you can say forget the second half where we played fkn brilliantly and scored 3 goals let's assess the first half where we keep starting slowly snd conceded 2 goals. Doesn't mean the second half is in the bin and no-one gives a sht about a brilliant come back.
Why is that so hard yo understand?

Absolutely, but some people would have to edit their comments on McT from last season. "Yes he may have won Utd plenty of games with goals at key times but, but, but"

People get too hung up on stuff like possession loss stats when it comes to attacking players, this forum would have had a hard time with Giggs, often had pass completion rates in the 60% range during matches, but his entire game was about creative, penetrative passes to the strikers, if attackers are losing it in the last 3rd while trying to make things happen it is the nature of the game.

Salah is a fairly bad comparison. He has many games where he does feck all except score the winner. You'd take a career like that for Amad in a heartbeat if it were possible.

I think the coach makes alot of difference, ETH wants most attack from the right either it is Garnacho or Rashford. He has more confidence in Rashford/Garnacho to create and score. If ETH would give Amad more confidence and tell the team to feed ball to him. I am pretty sure Amad will have a go at the defenders, he is smart enough to decide to attack and play it back. I think he has everything in his locker to make something happen. I hopefully Amorim give more trust to Amad and I believe good things will come.

There is a reason those types are not as popular anymore.

I only use the stats to compliment the point, from the eye test he was clearly the best player on the field, even without the goals the one who was electric and the only one who looked up for it. In addition, its fairly obvious among the wingers he is the safest one to keep possession and technically the best, lastly, he should be regularly featured now, and Garnacho and Rashford should be competing for the other spot.

Man Utd 3:0 Leicester New
Just pure class and high work rate! Shame on Ten Haag for playing this fella so little.

Two starts, two very good games. Really glad he’s ended up the de facto first choice right sided attacker just in time for the new gaffer to take over

How was EtH leaving him out of the side? He’s arguably the best technician we have (with Kobbie and Masraoui), and a proper goal threat.

Arguably the player with the best technique in the squad. Pressed and defended well. I think he could find a lot of joy in this new manager's assumed system.

I'm a big fan of Amad but if you take out winning the ball with that header that got us up the pitch, which ended with the assist and general hard work off the ball, he had a 5/10 performance at best especially considering the opposition who were mid table Premier League level at best. If people think that's a good level for the rest of the season then we have all forgotten what a good winger plays like.
